Thanks for doing that Marc....that's a great color. I can think of several things I want to use that on. You say the name is White Lightning, eh? A while back, probably 2006, I pulled out my Ford Lightning F-150 and was planning on painting it pearl white and calling it....what else, White Lightning!! I didn't get too far on it though, I don't think I painted anything, but I think I did get as much of the engine and suspension as I could assemble before painting done. It doesn't seem like either of my two local shops are going to stock these, so I guess I will have to mail order them.

Unlike most people...I actually prefer 4-doors to 2 doors...and I don't have any intention of ever buying a 2-door (for the driveway, got plenty of kits) [of cource, if money was not an concern, a Mustang and an El Camino would be here...but I'm talking realisticly]. However, I prefer pickups to be 2-doors, especially if they have short beds. Short bed extended cab pickups just don't look right to me. For kits, I would prefer a four door for everything unless it's a kit that needs to be converted into NASCAR use (IE, 63 Ford, 62 Chevy, etc) because while I could fill the second set of door lines, I don't have the skills to re-sribe new door lines for the longer doors.

New Forum Topic Added
Billy Kingsley replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll post more if you pay me for it. I had been limiting myself to just when I though I had something worth adding, but....that could change!! LOL!! Remember, I have no life, so I could spent 14 hours a day on here, posting every minute....If I was paid for it! LOL!!! The NASCAR section is already my favorite part of the board Now it's the first thing I check when I pull it up, and I've gone from checking this board once a week to two-three times a day! (FWIW, this section was the first I used to check, followed by rants and raves, Resin and ask G&J...I still check them, and occasionally others, too, but the NASCAR section is where I'm going to be spending most of my time here!! Hey Gregg, is there any chance you could pull the NASCAR builds posted in the finished section and relocate them into the NASCAR section? That would be kind of cool, but probably more work then it's really worth... -
The 1988-89 Pontiac is Rusty Wallace, though, not Kenny. Good looking sheet. I'm going to wait and get mine from Mike at NNL East.

A Non-Chew Car from Jamie? Well, that don't seem right! Looks good...I gotta get back on my #02 Newman car.
-
Would that have been Mark Green or Jeff Purvis at the time? That's a good one Jamie...How about a shot looking down, so we can see the hood, roof and decklid? Looks like you used the 1997 sheet, very ingenious! I've not seen that one before.

Ditch the raised lettering...it's too small and incorrect anyway. (they were stenciled on the real car). I like using the Slixx tire sheet decals for the 80s cars, and the smaller ones for the 88-92 cars. They weren't any different in real life, but it's just one of my things. LOL. They are tougher to come by, though. The Slixx and Powerslide are the only good options, and both are equally as good to work with. The Slixx are slightly larger then Powerslide.

James, he found me! LOL! But, you can find them on Ebay...that's where I've gotten my sets...I have since gotten an order sheet and will soon be ordering a lot more, via mail-order. Ebay's the best though as all their new stuff is on there. You can find them here: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ2...Q3aMEFSQ3aMESOI They don't list everything at the same time, so keep checking.

Thanks Jay! Yes, the ride height has been lowered, significantly. A rudimentary form of working suspension too. I've been building curbside lately, and it gives a little more freedom to experiment. What I've been doing is just gluing it basically...no complete works, nothing too detailed...in the rear, just the cross frame into the chassis. In the front, only the bottom part is there...the upper A arms not populate my parts box, as do the springs, shocks et all in the back. The bottoms aren't even painted...but I never look at the bottoms once they are done anyway! LOL!

Very nice Jay! Every one you do looks more and more like Clay and Dave's....

Nascar Section On Board??
Billy Kingsley replied to LVZ2881's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Oh Yeah!! I'm going to have to start checking here every day again!! Thanks again for the vote of confidence James! I've got 97 in progress, and I plan to get it down to at least 80 this year! I hope! It's hard not to start new stuff, though, especially with the Model King kits. I'll manage! I would have had one more done already except I took my table down to work on another project...the joys of building on a fold up card table! LOL! Now if we can just get some NASCAR coverge in the magazine...I'm not asking for all NASCAR all the time (though I would not be adverse to that!) but all I ask is the same coverge of all the other forms of modeling... -
NICE!! I'll have to purchase one of those. One of my earliest car memorys is our 75 Torino wagon...metallic orange with brown vinyl interior. I've gotta build one of them someday...Yours will do for now! Ayatollah, your Torino is the only one I've seen finished. I've seen it before but it sure is nice! I just got my bumpers back from Chrome Tech Bob in late November. Mine is going to powder blue (basic Testors 1208) to match one I've seen here several times locally.

As has been well documented, 1/64 NASCAR is my #1 hobby, with 1/24 plastic models a distant second (Now a days I pretty much have only three hobbies I keep up)-the third is DC Comics, BTW. But...there are plenty of cars that are not made, for whatever reason, be it because they are so obscure that nobody but me and a few others would want them or so-called "Hard Licquer" which the governement does not allow to be made, or from a time before diecast was traditinally made-the 1950s, most of the 60s and about 95% of the seventys have not been touched. The majority of cars pre-86 aren't even available! That just wouldn't do...so there are a few of us who take matters into our own hands, and make cars that need to be made. I learned it was possible in 2005 to make cars that weren't available, and have spent a lot of time building cars that were not available. There's a next chapter I am working on, which I will detail after some pictures... Just like my 1/24 modeling, my skills have improved over time. Not to toot my own horn, but those of us who do this on a regular basis all say that I am the best out there... I don't know about that, but I have been trying to do better...no more eyeball masking or letting things slide that I used to. I tend to work in batches and these group shots are the result of those batches. I've done more then 100 cars now and not all appear in group shots. Note: The Petty Superbirds are not my own creations. I had them there because I needed to check and see which version I had. The 1980 Janet Gutrie car is a 1 of 1. I have the only set of those decals in 1/64 in existance, that I know of! Now, the next chapter I mentioned above....There are many bodies currently available to build various NASCAR race cars from the 1950s to today...But there are also a lot of bodies that are not available, in NASCAR form or otherwise. I am working on fixing that...I have a 1987 Buick nearly done, and I have plans for some others. I have some things in the works that could be bringing about several new body styles, or preparing a street car into NASCAR use. (To that regard, I have a 1974 Torino nearly ready and a 1970 Monte Carlo is in the que for right after that. After I finish the bodies, I will be having them cast in resin, so I can get as many as I need. I doubt they will be offered for sale, but a few people may recieve them as gifts. People who've gone above and beyond to help me especially will be on the recieveing end here! Here is the work I have done on the Buick so far. I just found out there is a VASTLY better 86 to work off of, which I am getting in the mail sometime soon, so this project may be dead. Also, I will not buy from 1/24 home decal makers who do not produce decals in my scale. Obviously, screen printed decals can't be done in 1/64 as there are not enough people to buy them (realisticly, I know there are not 300 people, and I can't think of a single car I would build 300 of! LOL!) It should be noted, that I do NOT sell my work. If someone helps me to get a rare car I've been after for a long time, (I've been collecting for more then 15 years-and I'm only 23!) I will make a car (or more then one, depending) as a thank you.

This is copy and pasted from the NASCAR board...I never bothered to post it here due to the general lack of NASCAR support on the board, but now I WILL post it, and all future builds, in this section!! My first set of Lobographix decals, and also my first 87-88 Thunderbird built. I had painted this one more then a year ago intending it to be Brett Bodine's #15 Crisco Ford from Bud Moore's stables, but I never did that. Over time I had forgotten why it never happened. I had thought, when I pulled it out to do this car, that I had set it aside because the Slixx decals didn't have foil numbers, which the car had. As it turned out, I had said it aside because the paint was poor....Not runny, but the coverage was insufficiant, the right side in particular was almost bare plastic. Unfortunatly, I didn't realize that until after I had started decaling! I was a little worried, but the decals stuck like it was as shiny as glass. I was impressed! I was really afraid they wouldn't stick, but they did. Overall, I'm happy with it...And I've since ordered some more from Lobographix, too! Although it doesn't show well, the headlight covers are BMF. Also, the first decal I did on the car was the nose stripes. That had to go over several complex curves and was the first test, which passed with flying colors! I chose to use that one first because the decals provide a second set-the only diffrence is that one has the Thunderbird name on it, and one is solid red. Thanks for looking and enjoy the photos...

Unfortunatly living where I live in upstate New York, I've not met any big time NASCAR drivers. I've seen Dale Earnhardt, and I met Andy Brass when he was driving for Bigfoot. (He made one truck start back in 1995). When Dale was injured at Talladega in summer of 1996, he had a pre-sceduled appearence at the Rhinebeck fairgrounds. Even with the injuries he had, he still did the appearence. When we drove up, the line was way way too long, and had been closed off already. So, we took a little ride, up into Columbia county. It's a good thing we did, as he was running a little late, and we passed his limo. It was long and white, with a 3 sticker on the side window. It was later confirmed by a friend of my brother's who had gotten there much earlier, that it was indeed his limo. He took a picture of the limo, which we saw, which was pretty much absolute proof! My brother's friend Tom took these photos that day. Apparently Dale was in so much pain he didn't say a word. http://public.fotki.com/ElCaminoBilly/real...e_earnhardt_at/ I was about 30 feet away from the King last summer at the Kyle Petty Charity ride in Saratoga Springs when I took this photo.

Thanks for linking me James....I've got more then 4000 photos on there, as well as nearly 2000 decals. Not to mention my 77 1/24 builds and 107 1/64 builds! Pretty soon I will be photographing all my 1/64 cars as reference as well

All Right!! Now I Really Feel At Home Ya'll.
Billy Kingsley replied to LUKE'57's topic in WIP: NASCAR
It's about darn time!!!! I've been pestering (badgering?) Gregg to cover NASCAR in the magazine for quite a while, as it was the only form of modeling that was continually ignored....While I've not got the latest issue yet, I gotta think this is a good sign and that we will finally get the coverage we deserve!! Almost all the cars I've built have already been posted, either in the main section with the ones I finished before the forum existed, or in the Under Glass section as I completed them. Still, I know I have a few I never bothered to post here and I've got several others that will be done soon enough that will be posted shortly...A couple I'd like to have done for NNL East/MASSCAR on April 12th and 20th, respectivly. -
Brian, I remembered you saying you used Blue Angel Blue for your Stroh car, and I used the same when I painted my 1989 car. (In 1/64). You're right, that's about the best match available in model paint right now. I think this is the 4th board I've seen some of them on

Nascar 50th Anniversary (gold-plated)
Billy Kingsley replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in WIP: NASCAR
Engines don't interest me-I've got nothing! (The majority of mine have the hoods taped shut and the engine bay open...Curbside!) I'm glad to see someone is actually building this....They almost never get built. I do with Revell/Monogram had plated the nose piece though. It doesn't look right being white plastic (even with the gold decal they provide). I bought one of them sometime back to build with my mom...be she never wanted to and it's still sealed. (I've got my own as well). I doubt I will ever build it as is though, myself...I have enough actual racecars that I want to build! Maybe when I finish all 1800+ that I already have decals for I'll worry about fantasy cars -
Listen to them...I think I was the first to use the Professional Sharpie (I've been using it since 2004) and it is so much better then anything else...I won't do windows any other way! Not only does it look good and work great, is also forms a barrier that prevents super glue from fogging windows. Most of my windows are super-glued in and they don't fog, except on the not as rare as I wish instances where I get sloppy or apply way, way too much (making it ooze past the black and onto the clear) I even bought about 50 of the things so I wouldn't have to worry about running out again! While I'm not a big Days of Thunder fan...the build looks good. That has to be one of the rare-ist DoT cars built...I think that's only the third I've seen.

Look What's Coming In 2008 From Revell Germany!
Billy Kingsley replied to larrygre's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
As a long time bus fan, I'm in!! I wonder what one of them is going to weigh? -
I wonder if that's a Revell thing or a Hot Wheels thing. I think it's a good sign that they at least carry the 1/12 kit, which has no Hot Wheels markings whatsoever, even if only online. On a related topic though, it always seemed like a no-brainer to me for Hot Wheels to do kits. Especially in the Mattel area...I for one would buy a kit of the Twin Mill, Evil Weevil, etc. I have no doubts others would too....the cars wouldn't have sold so well for Hot Wheels if they weren't.

Glue Help !!!!!!!!!
Billy Kingsley replied to partsguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Listen to Harry's advise-he's got it right! What you may want to do, and since I don't know you from atom you may already do, BUT in case you don't- glue parts that are going to be the same color togther before painting. You really want to try and glue as few painted parts as possible, and that cuts down on that big time. I've learned this through my own experience and having been told on a message board long, long ago, and it really did help. Less headaches, a more sanitary, tidy finished project, and easier to boot!
