The body is now in clear coat and shows how this paint really looks. From one photo it shows you how dark it can be at the same time how bright in the next photo. In one shows how the light can make it even look pink tint. This will be the last photos till she is finish and ready to send off to GSL XXII in 09. I will be showing the photos of the chassis and motor combo with they are finish and ready to go into the body. Also the interior when that is completed sitting in the body.

This is more of parts box left overs from all the 32 kits I have. The color is Du Pont Alabastor from Denver Color Custom and the chrome is from Alsa MirraChrome. The EFI was scratch built, brake lines and wireing was done. The gages was scratch built and has Dolphin gages with the interior done in leather.

Just got done shooting the Pearl over the red, Tomorrow I get to put the chrome and tail light bezzels on her and then clear coat every thing. The body and hood has 4 coats of Du Pont Blue Blood Red ( remix from HOK paint chip) and has 3 coats of Du Pont Pearl Red (also remix from HOK paint chip). Once I get the clear on I will take more photos of every thing from the interrior and motor, chassis and body one more time before I put them all together, I'm getting really excited over this as its now starting to look like a car.

Berry White "Concept 36" mock up car 80% done.
Chas SCR replied to Chas SCR's topic in WIP: Model Cars
"Concept 36" is now in its secound coat of paint and ben wet sanded down. This car is starting to come to life. This style of paint and sand will be done 3 more times before the pearl is put onto it. http://public.fotki.com/ShawCustomRods/str...l-09/page5.html -
You can also use the body of the pen to make the new style motor covers, I use two of them for the one on my Concept 36 and also the center section is made from part of a pen. The spring can be used for the rear and front springs on street rods and so on. For other stuff I use tin foil to put in head lights in the Testor kits like Coupster and Smoothster stuff when the head light bezels are just flat, Trim it out so a 37 ford head light bucket fits in and then take the tin foil and put in around the back of the bucket slid it into the hole and glue from the inside the fender. Then take putty and fill in the inside the fender wall where the buck is to its flush so you can not see the work done. Take out the bucket after all is dried and you have a head light bucket made into a model that did not come like this also the new bezel will fit right inside with the head lights when you are ready for them. I use thread, needles for shifters, old shirts and sweaters for interior work. There is a ton of stuff if you just think about it that you can do.

Quote: 11 different kits to build one car. I'm going to guess and say this part he is asking is because of my building style, I normally buy two kits of what I'm building one of because when I was in to the RC stuff back in the early s I learn that you can buy the same two things and have only one good one. So when I did the 56 "New Age Pimp'n" Chevy from GSL that is when I bought a lot of kits to do one car. Now for the new one I'm doing yes I have about 6 kits invested into it. When I'm done I will have extra parts to use on other builds later if I like. I do not buy PE stuff as I'm not to good into working with that. I make my own distributors and exhaust out of aluminum tubing and all my gages are turn aluminum. The biggest thing I spend money on are paints. I spend any where from $100 to $-- Sky is the limit. Kit- Two min $16 to $18 each Rims - $10 Gal, primer every 6 month- $40 Paint--Du Pont Hot Hues -- $30 to $160 Clear Coat-- Hot Hues- $65 every 6 months Chrome Plating--Chrome Solutions $300 for the kit (new but looking at about 6 months or more) Chrome Plating--Chrome Tech USA--$75 and up. Evercoat Body filler--- $18 year. Extra stuff tools and so on about $300 a year Now I'm not sure how you can brake that all down to what I spend but I do know I spend the sky limit on one car a year or two as it is build special. (Next car is taking till 2015 and it will be my first build from a scratch built body and chassis)

When I go to post some thing it says the photos I can only upload are 912bytes? Is there a reason that I can not upload any photos so people can see?
-
Andy I like that idea, evilone where are you located at and could you make the trip to Salt Lake City in 09? You have just little over a year to build the most wildest car you can and bring it. Let the real Judges pick it.
-
That is really not the answer I was looking for. What makes it a lowrider? If I could upload more then 912bytes for photo I would show you the car I'm talking about or can some one upload it for him. I know a lot of the west coast and also Gregg has a photo of the 56 Chevy from GSL.

Berry White "Concept 36" mock up car 80% done.
Chas SCR replied to Chas SCR's topic in WIP: Model Cars
NP Milt any thing you need to know or just need let me know. If I have it your welcome to it just ask. This is one of the biggest things I learn at the GSL that we all need to help each other and its more of a shame if some one holds secrets then letting them know how to do it. -
What makes a car a lowrider? I'm not trying to be a smart ass or nothing. Why i'm asking is because the 56 Chevy I built has never ben kept in the class I enter it in other then the GSL. Its ben moved to other classes, and yes one of them was lowrider is it because i tucked the big rims up under it and the flashy paint job?

Berry White "Concept 36" mock up car 80% done.
Chas SCR replied to Chas SCR's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Why I use this many kits as because each kit mold has sink lines and flash lines in different places. Plus I had a lot of scratch built parts and redone parts to the chassis and front and rear parts so I did them in 3s so I could pick what ones are better then the other on how they come out. -
I like that Chris, looks good

I guess I have to list all credits that so far has had some help in this. So to show that I do build my own stuff but like every one we do have some kind of help. Testers for the smoothster, vantastic and coupster kits ( who made them and did the design work for tool and die I have no idea.) but still thanks. Body Putty from Evercoat from Battle Creek Body Shop. Paint- HOK color and sealer put down on a paint chip and then taken to Battle Creek Body Shop (that is a Du Pont rep) and made into a Du Pont Hot Huese color. Du Pont for the paint and clear coat. Dave Cummings for the help and telling me how to do the grill. Grill was lay'ed out using screan mech from ACE Hardware and the plastic that I used to vacume forum it is from JT Hobby. The main buck was made using modeling clay from Ben Franklens. Chrome plating from Chrome Tech USA. Leather was from Jo ANN's faberic. Gages-- Size was used from Model Car Garage old gages that are not on the market at the time of machining. I machined extra sets using the size and changing the sizes to fit the dash. Gage face-- Dolphin gages from www.Dolphin.com Chas Cochran-- design print of test hub ( never was made) Design and print of finial hubs that was used. Detail master- fuel lines and fittings. Model Car Garage- tail light bezels Pegasus_Hobbies for the rims that the design was taken from. Bob Dubek-- First set of rims and hubs Eaton Tech Machining-- finial set of rims and hubs that was cleaned up and dimension changes. Bob Dubek--- Center caps for test rims and for the finial rims. Barry White---Barry White SRC for the photos and all the help. ALSA Corporation--MirraChrome for the exhaust parts. This is the paint I used on them. Tom Nungester Mark Gustavson Steve Boutte Randy Frost Darryl Gassaway Gregg from MCM and every one here. SpotLight Hobbies and every one here in the modeling community for pushing me to do this kind. If I left any one out I sure will put you down. -

How about some Re-Introductions?
Chas SCR replied to Steve H.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hi my name is Chas Cochran i'm from Battle Creek Michgian and just into modeling 5yrs ago, I have ben building real 1:1 street rods for about 10yrs and figur I would start my daughter into modeling so she could learn some of the stuff. I like to build street rods and street machines and replica style cars. And today im 39 yrs old with my daughter that turn 14yr and we share the same intrest as are birthdays. Happy modeling . -
All I could as for if its fair judged, But I also like to know what I did wrong or would do better on my cars for the next build, this was one thing I talk to a few of the people this year at the GSL " What could I have done better". I do not know much about drag racing cars or factory stock so I try to stay out of them and go into street rods and customs. But I like to build for my self and my tast in cars. Sounds like some one just did not like how it was judged and wanted it turn into his faver is all. Hats off to Dwayne for doing it not a lot of people like to be the judge of stuff but that is them and if it was not for the ones that know how to do it and will help then we would not have shows.

That looks good and clean.

Hello every one, This last weekend was a great time and getting to see Boyd and Jo Coddington and also Todd and the crew, Saterday I gave Boyd his car and he was very suprised as it was a secret from a lot of people that he see's every day, From Gregg the guy that does a lot of the painting, Todd who does the art sketch work, Jo his wife all knew about this project. Also on saterday we entered Lee's car in the Model show just to see what would happen. Yesterday it was given the "Best Street Machine" award and that capped off a great build as he will get the car and the award from the 10th Ann, PPG Goodguys National award winner.
