  1. You way mis my point..You just stating that your way is the right way and thats not true.. A model is a heck of a lot different then doing real cars for one. Two The person that does the real stuff has had stuff win great awards for his paint jobs at Detroit Auto Rama and at the Goodguys show's down in Indy and also Ohio. I do have some of my work you can see. You have seen it at the GSL, The truck looks good but no different from any one els that was on the table that look like a trailer queen style paint job.. It's the paint under the clear that makes it look better not the clear, and plus you won your class so it would go after the Master awards (Paint) being one of them. Dave are you talking about Waxing or Buffing it out to wait 4 months? Du Pont recommends to wait no less then 1 month before putting on a coat of wax.
  2. mis-informed? Dave I work very close'ly with the Du Pont people here and also learn a lot of stuff from one of the top air brush people here on the west side of Michigan. For getting orange peel from clear coat? Is that from using PPG, that would explain it all right there. And for buffing out right away no.. I do not even look at the body for the first 4 hrs till its some what dry. And 99% of the time there is no wet sanding or buffing or even polishing if you do it right..
  3. Gary what clear did you use? And what ratio is that? Clear to activ, is 4 parts clear to 1 part act, I know PPG has a self leveling clear in there line like Du Pont has the Hot Hues and Nason line. I would be carful on using the dehydrator for drying the clear coat.. This could make it very hard for you to do any wet sand and buffing to get stuff out.
  4. Road, Say the gage at the start of the line the compressor is putting out 12psi at the one that is between the line and the air brush is at at 10. And why would you guys be shooting paint that high for? I'm lost at why you would have to shoot it at 35psi, but then I do not move away from Hot Hues line inless i'm having a special color mix and then its still Chromsystem line. The stuff is so thin as it is and I use a Paashe VL and also Iwata. And for the chrome Alsa is also thin like water.. I buy it by the qrt and then go to michaels and get the glass eye droppers in the stainglass section.
  5. Some air compressor's do not put out what they are saying if you have a meter with a water trap at the compressor and line.. I have to one at the start of the line and one connected to the air brush and line.. On the compressor I have it verys between 1 to 2 lbs.
  6. Road, Du Pont does recommend to achive the best color resualts using the Hot Hues line a 72 hr wait.. This paint and also some of the Chromsystem paint line with the hues in the paints they do change (Sade) color from the time you spray it till the time they fully dry out.. To do it with out waiting the 72 hrs is if you bake it on like a normal body shop would. I have some red paint right now that you can watch it change shade colors every hr and and if you clear to soon you will get that shad of red and not what the full color is suppost to be.
  7. I can only give take on Dupont Hot Hues... With the paint I use the mid reducer this gives me up to 30 min window plus at 73 degrees in a air controal room this works good. Plus I heat up the inside of my spray booth to a 140 degrees with a little floor heater.. I put the heater in side it and cover the openning with a cardboard sheet. This will help the paint cure good and also lay down the best.. I shoot the paint nothing over 10 psi at the tip. ( No thinning needed with this paint as its real thin as it is.) Clear coat I still do the same above and shoot it at 7psi at the tip and still no thinning.. I can not speek for the PPG stuff but the window for doing 2nd coats on this I take the high road and wait the 3 days before putting on the clear coat after shooting the color. You can touch it once the clear is on after 6hrs but would recomend waiting the 24hrs before wet sanding and buffing.. You do not want to wait longer as then it will be too hard to wet sand. Hope this helps on some things.
  8. Matt is this like the old ones I bought off you a few years ago? I still have 4 of the 5 of them I bought and like them a lot. If they are with very little trimming Z they will fit a lot of stuff... You can also put them into the Amt Impala and Bel Air kits real easy with out a lot of work.
  9. I had a 82 Buick, Every thing was black but the shocks, They was a gold or bronz color and the only thing that broke up the black was the fuel line and brake lines as they was steal silver.
  10. From I-94 you would want to get off at the Helmer RD ext and go north to West Michigan, Take that west and when it splits go to the right and stay on that till you get to down town Richland. At the light turn right and head north for about 10mil out you will come to the show on the right side. Hickory rd and M-43..
  11. Mike the show for two weeks of the Elvis show will not have a model show at it like normal.. They have ask'ed every one that supported them to support Eric at this show.. For Richland being 20 min away.. Not sure on how you are going but its not even 10 mils to the show.. Delton is only 15 mils north and its between the two.. Hickory Corners is 5mils to the east.. They have a mail listing for Hickory yes but that about it as its off the main drag going to Delton and Hastings.
  12. This coming weekend August 7th at Gilmore Car Museum in Richland Michigan.. Car and model show. Great family fun with food, vendors, antiques, swap meet, antique car rides and more. Again this year is the special display of Antique Boats and Campers. 13. Love the steering shaft on that. Is there away you can do a "How To" as im trying to figur how how to make one for my project.
  14. I use a Paashe VL for 90% of every thing. Use Du Pont paints and never had to thin them or any thing and shoot them no more then 12psi.. If I use the Alsa Chrome I shoot that no more then 3 to 4 psi at the tip. Clear coat is Du Pont Hot Hues and still no thinning needed and shoot it at 8psi.
  15. Front window was round or 1/4 round instead of having a straight mid section to it. This also ruin the dash, Hood, Inter tub. Every thing els can be moved over to extra parts to the mid release of this kit.
  16. Put it on before you clear coat the body. Then put your clear on it, this will bring out more shine to it also keeps it nice for life.
  17. I got a spraybooth from ebay for $238 with FREE SHIPPING!!!!!! It's a Paasche. It was delivered from the company in Chicago I believe. Its rated at 240-280cfm,is this sufficient? After reading this I figured cleaning it once a year would be a good idea? Model #is HSSB-22-16 I will be using a respirator, saftey glasses and rubber gloves. You should clean it more then that! I have a Pace what ever the middle one is that he sells, and I also lay down a sheet of celo foil on the pan to help with clean up.. I Clean mine after doing primer spay or even some times just after the color coat is down just depends on how dirty it is. Cleaner it is the least that the dust is blown up onto what you are painting. Also always keep a spray bottle of water next to it to spray in the air. The water collects the dust that you an not see and and brings it down and then you can paint with out the worry of dirt or ###### getting into you paint.
  18. Getting ready to hit the bed as 2am is when this bus is leaving for NJ.. Look for a short guy with the Delahaye USA hat on and hanging around the Z man and RMR Table a lot...
  19. Pick up my truck kit yesterday to start on. And also love that Boattail car. That is just too cool!
  20. I'm leaving Sunday morning and going down to Liberty park. Also I think the Indy guys are leaving on Sunday as this is what was last told to me from Tom.
  21. Not sure as this will be my first time there, But I will be looking for some of the Heller 32 Renault and 36 Delahaye and 50 Talbot. Also will be picking up a few things from MCW. Stop by and see the fine resin by RMR Resin also as they have a few new things to be seeing at this great show!
  22. Street rodder magazine's, also call the shop where the car was built at and most of the time they have photos of the car i'm doing in built up stages. Talk to the people and if I can see the car in person then go and take a ton of photos.
  23. Gregg are we going to be able to order the Jackets at the NNL East?
  24. If you use enamul,Laquer or urethane you laquer thinner to clean it out. Do not use thinner to clean out acrylic water base as it will gum up on you and make a bigger mess then what you started with. Use Hot Water and you should be fine, for air brush that I use are two, Paashe VL Pro for the Clear Coats,Chrome paint, and Base Black for Chrome. Iwata eclips for all color urethane.
  25. I found some good leather and its real thin. If you have a daughter or a wife that takes birth controal pills they now come in a nice leather style folder thing. You can use this also in the inside it is like a vynel leather look to it. Stores to look for leather- Jo Ann's Faberic, Micheals, Dollar General, Salvation Army store.
