  1. Yes Harry i'm sorry I'm looking for the GSL XXII
  2. What issue came out with the GSL XXI coverage
  3. How about putting in a IRS rear end to update the chassis to todays stuff. Also a IFS to add, or even redo the chassis to a more updated one. Not every one likes the old stuff and it kind of gets old having the same thing for the chassis every time they release a 32.
  4. Congrats on the awards. Love the Richie Evans car as I remember watching that car run down at Daytona on Thursday after the old 125s. What was even great was seeing them run with the open wheel cars also.
  5. I need a new shirt as seeing that you had none at the GSL for me to buy
  6. Curtis do did get the win at the GSL, was you there as I know there was so many people and meeting every one I can not remember every one. Maybe if you let every one know who bought that model that is starting up all the fuse so people will watch for him. The bad thing about some models is that every one that builds in the same class (box stock, Racing and Factory Stock) normaly build the same car and it is hard to tell who's is who.
  7. If it could be judge like the GSL I would not have any trouble if there was $$$ on the line as there are them that build for the Grandmaster award and others that build for the class award, It shows on how much time and fun we have with it. Now what I like seeing is after such GSL is over and seeing every one at other shows to see how the same model fairs to what people are building all over that could not go to the GSL. I have seen a few models get awards at other places after the GSL that only I think is because of being in the magazines and such then if no one know how they did out west. But still a good topic and points for each subject.
  8. West Michigan, Battle creek here.
  9. Why? There is a lot of reason's why I build but most part is the people that you meet in this hobbie, I have met a lot of great friends from the east coast to the west coast and every place in the middle and people from two different country's, Also add Gregg to the list as he is on a little Island in the west hehe! But most part is its cheaper to try new things on model cars then it is on a real car to see if it looks right. Also love building replica style cars of some of the best real car builders around. Where can you take a 37 Ford and change a few things to make it a 36, or 41 Linclon to a 39? and have it less then $20 in to it. The one thing I can see most is that I spend a lot of time doing this then being at a bar or spending money on lot less stuff then if I was not into it so much. Thank you to every one here in the Modeling world as this is home.
  10. Congrats to all the winners and every one. GSL was a great show and nice to meet Dave Lindsy and all of the So Cal guys, Moonlight Club and all the NNL East group. So many new names and faces. Also Gregg for being there with his staff doing all the work thank you!
  11. For even brighter Red. With out changing to a different can of red go instead of using white use Yellow. Yellow will pop Red .06 points higher in the Hue change and it comes of a lot brighter red then you can think of. If you start with like a really bright red just think of it popping even more. White has been the base for a long long time till they figur it out with the hue paint reader.
  12. I like it Heli, Looks real nice. Hope the paint colors are not to flashy as this car should be suddle look and let the people see the body flows and the great work you did.
  13. Dave, I'm going to guess at the 2007 GSL that was your chrome test car? sorry if I am not right on this, But at the same time it made me go out and fine some thing better then what was out there for chroming model parts. I have use Chrome Tech USA and Bob is very good at what he does and I still will use him if I have a lot of stuff to do so I do not have to tree every thing up. But for just little parts and parts that I need done ASAP I found the best bang for the buck is by far ALSA Chrome FX for $160 to get started this stuff will last a long time and you can also clear coat over it with Urethane Clear and it does not lose its shine like all the other chrome paint. You pick up 8oz of ALSA Chrome FX for just a little over $80, then you have a paint shop mix you up a qurt of 1950 Ply Black This is for the base and then a qurt of your favorit urethane clear (Mine is Du Pont Hot Hues Clear $49 with activator) Out that door. The qt of Black Paint should only run you $15. You can see three of my cars at the GSL XXII that was done all using the ALSA Chrome FX... and one that has Chrome Tech USA and you would never know the differents in it. MR BIG I like your chrome but if its like any thing in the pic its getting close to being back to the point of whats in the kit and not looking like real chrome.
  14. Wow from IPMS shows to the NNL non judge shows to the GSL? three complete different deals in all. IPMS that I have seen up here in the tri state area is nothing more then the plain and ship guys shows. The cars are there but not even close to the numbers of the Military stuff. They have a lot of rules for the judges to go by - like no touching of the models or picking them up. Ok if you do not pick them up and can not see under them you are told not to judge this part of the car compare to the one you can see from having a mirrior under it. For the NNL's some are ok and others so so. The only reason to go is to see old friends that you do not get to see at your local shows and get to talk to them and catch things up. Its more of a big model car club get together and thats it. For how they come up with the winner its like being in high school and the biggest one that is most popular wins. It has nothing to do with the best model or what it took to build it. Kind of like in the 1:1 car shows it is whats called a "OPEN" Show any thing goes and who has the most friends vote wins. For the judging shows this is where it all comes down to how good you did your model and build it with the best of what you can and could have done. If you are happy with it then be happy that you put 100% into it and let it be. Not all judge's look for the same thing or like the same stuff kind of like in the 1:1 car shows. Big Car shows in the real world the saying is that a black car can never win, They look nice but it does not catch the eye's of the judges for points. For the GSL this is yes the grand dady of them all point judge shows there is. But "IF YOU NEVER BEEN TO IT THEN YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE MISSING" It is a social event like no other. You have 4 days of being around modeler's talking and learning from the best of the best. You meet friends that will help you on the next build that you never thought of having them help you. You leave there with new friends that you end up coming back in two year with or making other trips to other shows with in your area. And should never NOCK THE GSL if you have never been to it or any Other show. Yes the models are under a lot of judging in this. But also they will help you learn or tell you how to make the next one better. If you never know what to work on and make them even better then the last one then you will never advance in the modelling. All three style shows have there goods and bad parts but they are ran ok with the up most respect and you can learn from them all. Wish the locol shows could do the same.
  15. Yes you can carrie them on and put them in the over head part. Use a duffle bag and put the boxs into this. Look up what size you would need as they do have a limit on this.
  16. Hizoot that car that you are showing is listed as a 32, even if the front has a 40 style to it for some reason the owner and builders listed it as a 32 in the shows. Also remember next year show has all new rules for the AMBR, that means the Detroit winner will not be able to try for this award as it use to do in the past. Do I think it should be open up a little yes, As I would like to see any thing pre 40. AC Cobra was built to take on the Corvettes and Jags back then as there thunderbird was starting to become a bigger car. Not a lot of people remember the first few years of the Thunderbird being what you want to call a roadster or even a sports car but it did as it was a two seater.
  17. Wow love the talk about Dale and his past. For car number's he ran you missed a couple, #74 that he ran for Petty Ent, as the Dodge test car and also Known as the Kit Car the you buy as a model called Pettys Kit car. This car was never and or driven by Petty him self. Dale ran this at Hickory and at Metrolina (not sure on spelling) Also he ran a car with the 88 and 17 on it. The 17 was Randy Sweet's car the he ran in the Klash here in michigan for two years. Now for taking every thing out of books and movies please do not beleive every thing you read or see on Tv. The first thing I learn when I moved down to Concord NC was a lot of unknown history about this man and how every thing came about. I live with his child hood best friend name of Jim Burr. Jim grow up next door to Dale and also the first Christmas I was down there it was at his mother's place that is still next door to the Earnhardts and Danny and his wife also came over. The true story about why the car was painted pink was to make a fool out of Dale more then any thing from his father. The story is that Dale and his father was racing at Metrolina one night (Dale in the 6cycl class and Ralph in the Modifyed class) Ralph had a way of showing his driving skills when he would win a race he would take a lap and drove one handed and wave the the crowed, as he did this he would also send the car into a 4 wheel slide to show he could handle it. The night that Dale won his first ever race he would try this instead of showing off he back the car into the wall. When he was walking back to the trailer his dad called him over to his car. Ralph would ask him " boy where did you ever learn some thing that stupid of driving from? Dale would say " I seen you do it all the time" Ralph " let me tell you one thing and always remember this. You are not ME!. Two weeks later in the gas station where this car was housed at also where Dale lived at (Upstairs from the shop he worked in) His dad and the car owner made a deal and was to get Dale out for the night. When he was out of the shop he dad would go into the station and pained it pink. This was told to me by Danny and his sister-inlaw back in 1995.
  18. Emo there was never a 16 or higher on this car as its hard enuff to get the tires off with 15s. Steve I have never seen that info before but the paper work I do have is from the GM Historical Library, I had to use the vin number to send in and get all the info on my car and also they send you what was order and optional on all the other cars. But again the paper work shows the production numbers and release for the 72 Model year, It show 0 For any thing with skirts that was put on with any thing bigger then the west coast car. The green you are trying to think of is called GM Met Green.
  19. If you like any more ref, pic's let me know I have a 72 Numbers matching Monte sitting here in the shop. I bought it back in 2000 and restored it from ground up. I also seen your early pics with the skirts. Not knowing if you are going with the big block or not, but the skirts only came on what they called the Cali car 350, 2bbl car. Also on the stance it looks great but remember 90% of the photos you see on the net of the real one's the tires have ben changed. This car also only came with 14inch rims and was one of the first things the new owners changed.
  20. After tonight I like to add a 19yr old daughter that I got to see for the first time in 19yrs. Sounds kind of off the wall, but when her mother and me broke up I did not know she was pregnet untill 8 months later. She sent me a letter telling me she did not want to screw up my chances in racing and that she also did not know what to do as we both was very young. She was 18 and I was 20 at the time. We broke up 3 weeks before we was to get married and then I lost tuch with her up till tonight. Great Christmas and New Year gift,,, Oh ya she is going to MSU for Engineering and Design.. what a great kid.
  21. I have a couple you can have. They are out of the 41 Lincoln Revell kit. Shoot me your snail mail and I will send them out.
  22. I got a new Boyd Coddington shirt, and SOB Hat and shirt. Print of the first car that Boyd built. A big Duece kit, two Revell 32 fords and a new Paashe VL Pro, Two plain tickets to any where I want to go in the lower 48 states plus Hotel paid for for a week. Thats all for Modeling, From my father I got my 454ci 30 over stroker motor painted and the 64 Bis is going out monday to be acid dip. Steph is the the one who made out better, Grandpa gave her some money to add to the money I gave her on her birthday to buy her a new car next spring. ( she does not know that her car is ordered 09 Camaro), Also she was givin two plain tickets. Carolann and Jessie both of them was swarm over by all the toys that they got. Other then that its ben great. My younger brother came back into town for the first time in 15yrs, My older brother and his family came over and Grandpa made sure that every one had well over 20+ things under the tree for the kids, and last the lady that I have ben seeing for last 7 months ( I knew her back in High School) ask me to marrie her. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL
  23. To each and every one in are great modeling world hope you and your family have a safe and great Christmas and happy New Building YEAR. God Bless every one and a safe one.
  24. I just go to the shows to see old friends, But also to learn more things then trying to read it online in emails. Its a heck of alot easy'er when you can see it and talk to the person right there. Dave I hope you bring your 36 Auburn to the GSL that is a nice looking car that I would love to see in person.
  25. I can relate to Mark and few others, My mooooth well lets put it this way Marty! she was in the middle of a divorce from my father when she found out that she was going to have me. She try'ed to abort me by using drugs and caused my heart condition when I was real young. After the divorce the judge grant my father custody.. very unheard of back in 68, She worked at the same plant and lived just 10 min from where I grew up but never once did she see me or talk to me. I had two brothers and both of them was abanded, My oldest was rasied by are grandparents and my youngest one was rasied by his fathers mom. All three of us boys would grow up knowing each other and also seeing each other as much as we wanted to by my father and Martys mom and dad, My grandparents was real cool people as they blame her for every thing. How ever I did see her once when I turn 18 and that lasted about 2 min as I looked at it she did not want to see me for the first 18yrs she does not even have to see me for another 18yrs or more. My step mom adopted me when I was 3 and far as I have ever looked at it she is my real mom. And she can be hard some times but I love her to death for what her and my father had to go through.
