  1. I guess I should also add other then meeting and making new friends, are the great special nights you get to spend with them! Last time on wensday night the NJ crew took me down to a cool place to have a soda and then we walk back from there, That was very special to me. Also getting to meet Simon and talk to him in the bar about coming to a show this spring in Indy. Then you will fined your self going to other shows in way off places like being invited out to the NNL East (I can not wait for this one). Or having Scott and his wife out bid you at the auction! Or sitting in that big area with a fire place with all the guys seeing how we can put up a model car display on top of it! This last time Tom and I was so tired from doing every thing that we could not even think of going out sunday to site see, This time I hope we do not have to spend the first two days rebuilding a car in the hotel room! Not only did we both get are cars fix but every one there chip in on wanting to help so much it was like having a bonch of hands jump in. This is what makes a great 5 days with some of the best of the best. The awards yes are very nice and I do like to place but after winning the special Ricky Couch Memorial award I'm not sure if I can top that feeling. From the Count Down to 2011 GSL XXIII It starts at the NNL East 2010 with all the great friends.
  2. I agree with every thing that you said Dave! I have been twice now and the first time I think we was in the same class. I love going to this show as not only seeing and meeting new people but the people we talk to here on the board all the time. The first time I walked into the show area Mark S. Gustavson was sitting there and for unknown reason he came right over to me to welcome me and it was like I have been going ever since the first GSL I. This last time I was out there a day early'er on Wen, so I got to see and talk to more people. The first time there you will be ahh struck and its so much to take in that its over loads your brain. But all I can say is to go once and make sure you go to all the stuff that they offer and see and talk to every one. I talk to a person the first time about his chrome platting water base! So what did I do? I left there and gone home and over the next 2yrs I invested in a different kind of Chrome Platting that uses Alsa Corp. You learn a lot of new stuff, But one thing I did learn is that every one will talk to you and show you what you can do better and different and make it more fun for you. There is "NO SECRETS" in this hobbie. That is one thing they want you to learn first hand. If you want to know some thing then ask and you will learn, but if you do not ask then you will not learn how it is done. GSL XXIII 2011 and Yes I will be there with two new class cars that I have never built for and I will return in the replica class. But that is the classes that I want to enter but for going I WANT TO SEE ALL MY FRIENDS AND HAVE FUN IN Salt Lake City!
  3. hickory corners contest August 7 2010 This is very early but I wanted to let people know about the model car contest I will be running in conjunction with the Red Barn Spectacular antique auto show at the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, just outside Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Red Barn show held this year on August 7, 2010 is good all by itself but every year we have a small model car contest that may be of interest to readers of the forum. Typically we get 75-100 entries and every year we feature a different model. Just for fun this year we will be featuring four door sedans, the cars that get no respect. I would love to hijack the theme from a contest that will be held at the museum 2-3 weeks later- cars of the Gilmore Car Museum but alas it is taken. I have classes for stock, modified and commercial vehicles as well as a special award for youth. The fee to enter a model car is free with admission to the show. Please e-mail me if you have any questions. Eric This is a great show for the northern Ind,ILL, Ohio and all the East and West Michigan people to go to. It cost $7 to get into every thing and well worth a great day for the family and doing a model show also the 1:1 car show. If any one would like fly'ers please email me and I can send them to every one.
  4. I would like to make an public apology to Mr Dudek for what took place last spring here on the board for saying any thing about his cancer. That should not have ever been said out to the public like that. Also apology that I said about his work to the public. Some people may not have a problem with his work and some of his stuff are up to 100% good. I should never have said any thing about his quility that he sold to me to the public as not being what I wanted. But I can not apology's for work that was not his nore give him credit for stuff on one of my cars that was not his on the finish model. Yes his rims was used for the mock up only as the new ones was being machine but the finish one's was not his work and I can not give him this apology for not giving it to him. Please note this is not to start an arguements or flaming war. This was a request from him and I'm doing it based on what happen here in the forum.
  5. the AMT 1965 Corvair. That thing is just junk all around. Revell 1934 Fords all of them because of the top is a two part section and add in the 35,36 Ford kits also.
  6. Today I got in the mail the Heller Renault Vivastella PG7 and a Heller Talbot-Lago Record 1950. I'm looking forward to doing the Talbot in a nice custom up to date style car and the Renault in a street rod with a new motor and rear end. The kits are very nice and love the detail on them.
  7. I use the Meguair's 7 only to help the clear cure better. If you read the back of this and do what it says it tell's you after rubbing it in let it set for 30 days before using any kind of wax on this. This hardens the clear even more. For washing I just do this between wet sanding and use a little Dawn soap in the water. After wet sanding run Hot water on it to wash off the soap. Also if you want to rewax your car use Hot Water as it cuts the wax and washes it off, This is why the 1:1 car guys only really wash there car twice a year once at the start to take off the old wax and then at the end of the year. If you use Dawn Soap on normal wax this cuts it down to the clear coat and does not leave any thing.
  8. I gone to a lot of shows and really know of 1 that gets right down and pick's a car apart and I love this part of the Judge's doing there job. I have no troulbe of them lifting up my car to see if there is clue or some wax left over on the bottom of the car, or if some thing is missing. The GSL Judges are one of the top of the line people who do nit pick and I have no troulbe in this. Last year from 1st to 5th in Street Machine was award by only one part each from car to car. Each person ( and yes my self) missed a part. To figur how who place it came down to what part was going to hurt the car more if it was a real car and make it not able to drive. Just think 1 part did all of this and not one of the top 5 cars had the same part missing. Also if I can fly out to SLC and the car makes it there in one piece and yes if it gets damage in travel the Judges take a sight on this and do not nock it down for this. Also there is a box to check if you do not want your car picked up.
  9. Also you have to remember is what are you trying to get it to look like? Factory stock before the 70s? this is a different look for clear coat. Show cars that are driven to and from the show? this is a different look, and then you have the new wave trailer queen cars that look like they been dipped into the clear because they have 3 to 5 coats of it on each part. Each clear that has been talked about here has there good things to get what you are trying to make but you just need to know what you are trying to get at. Can not take a 1969 Roadrunner and put urethane on it and call it a factory stock. No factory stock car from that eara had a shine like this and also take note if its a factory stock 9 times out of 10 it does have little swirl marks that you can see from the factory.
  10. If you have an air brush then go with Du Pont Hot Hues Urethane Clear as it goes over every thing and you will not have to sand, polish or wax it when you are done. Spray and let driver for 24hrs and you are done end of story.
  11. For the movie they was not Fake race cars. This was covered from the Stock Car Magazine. The v6 cars from the Busch and Busch North series was invited to help do this movie. All of the Ford T-birds that was used for Burt's car was from Cale Yarborough team. The only bad part of this movie was that one of the shoots that they used showing Kenny Humphill and Big John Anderson wild flip at Daytona. Kenny would survive his and would never return to Nascar but for the great IND Big John he would be in a coma till he passed away. The car owner (I can not think of his name right now) but he was the one that gave Dale Earnhardt his ride when he ran the #77 and 19 red, white and blue car. The movie was good to watch for a night of nothing to do or nothing on.
  12. This is a cool thread to start. For me it was going to the GSL XXII this last year even though I got to meet some new people that are great to talk to and some new and old friends, I found my self winning a award that you really never build for and never think of. This award was given as a memorial award to a one of the best custom builders we had in are hobbie. I was so floored when they called my name on this it brought tears to my eyes and also made me speachless. I was also lucky to have SA do a photo shoot on one of my cars for the first time and MCM also did the other one. Little things like this makes a great show and a great trip even better. Salt Lake people are so nice and fun to be with and then you through in all the great people in are hobbie and get to spend 4 days with them makes a heck of a trip. The awards are just a little thing to take home! The Ricky Couch Memorial award will always be one of the top things that I will cherish for a long time to come.
  13. With all the talk about over builds and such and who does what and how each of us get are builds to look like this and that. How about if there was 10 guys on here that will be at GSL XXIII we all agree to start at the end of the month so its about year and 3 months to build it. We all do the 150 Bel Air that is the commen kit. We post them here and show how each of us can get a great build so a lot of the other people who are woundering what it takes to build a compitition style model. This is not a how to Win but how to build a GSL Competitor build. Gregg can let us cover all the stuff from here as the builds are taken place and then when we get to the GSL he can cover on how they all finish and every thing. We show every one and the new people what we change and what we are looking for in doing the build and how each of us go'es about making the parts and kit better then when it comes out. Why 10 people is because it seems there is 10 or more ways of doing the same thing but it would all cover the basic styling of this. This would not to see who is the best or even going after the GSL Grandmaster award this is why I put the commen kit down so it would not end up in that styling. For the people that has been at the GSL know its two different style builds, one for the class win compare to the Grandmaster win. We take out the two of them and just have fun with this class and bring back some life to it. If you like to do this please post here and we can start at the end of the month and I would also get a Fotki site fixed up so each of us can have a place to post and you would have access to it any time you like and up load your own stuff to this.
  14. very intresting builds and Love the detail on the big motor!
  15. Thank you every one. The interior is red on Haydens car. I wish I had a scanner so I could put some of the ref pics and what we done to this car out so people could see it better.
  16. It is Hot Hues Black from Dupont and a Chromebase Green is all. The green is for the intier only.
  17. This is the first time for me building a drag car. So I picked a car that I was able to get 99% of all the facts on and here it is. Its the Hayden Proffitt 1962 US Nationals winner car. The hardest part of the build was the fenderwall headers as the driver side is three over and one under the steering shaft. After spending more then 4 days on it I was able to figur it out and every thing fits into there place. Also you can go and look at all the pics and see where the rear end was reworked as this was a hush hush type of stuff was done to the car. Enjoy the pics. 18. I have not posted this here yet. This is the replica of the 1932 Ford called "Chromezilla" that I have been working on for some time now. The interier is done and is now painted and also the first two coats of black was put on the body this afternoon. Here is a few shots of it and also the link. here is the link to all the pics. http://public.fotki.com/Streetrodcustom/customs/gsl/32-chromzilla/
  19. Count me in!
  20. Joe,Pat and all of the DMCC group that put on the show was there and had a lot of fun. I got to get a couple of things from Bud's stash and also was with Z-man and Ron most of the time messing around with all the new resin parts. I can tell you this coming out of the RMR shop next year you will need to save some money because the stuf is going to be off the wall wild! Pat took a ton of pics and a big Congrats to Steve Perry for winning all the awards with his drag car.
  21. I will also be on hand. Most'ly sitting with the RMR guys as we my have some thing to show but its not 100% done at this time. Just stop on by and see
  22. Here are a few pics of the sold ones in my 61 Chevy that I did.
  23. I do not think any one took it wrong. I redid the model and every thing once I was able to abtain it so they are raised now. The Cobra Killer II motor was a duel partenership thing between my self and VCG at that time. He has left the hobbie and I still have 4 motor kits and the vavle cover model is all. If you want a set of the resin ones email me off of here. shawcustomheaders2@yahoo.com
  24. Bob did do the master one for the resin copy. The Resin one's was made for VCG Resin as the 572 Cobra Killer motor. I have the mold for the Valve covers and also they have been redone since in having the raised 572s in them I have sets casted already. Bob's aluminum valve covers are very nice looking and are worth the price.
