Anyone try this chrome paint?
Chas SCR replied to my66s55's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It says POLYESTER URETHANE HYBRID CLEARCOAT. This is not the same as a normal Urethane clear that your thinking of, NO REDUCER OR CATALYST REQUIRED- the clear that comes in the kit is not the same as the glamer clear that they are selling. Either way I will stay with my Alsa chrome and Du Pont Clear. -
Mark Gustavson/Model car Museum

I enjoy going to this every time at the GSL. Even if you do not get to the GSL show this is a must stop see place if you are in this hobbie. The stuff you see there you may never thought of or seen in your life and all work the guys put into this. It's more of are place of Hall Of Fame type of model cars and people. Also I do not think people that never have been there understand Mark and them put a lot of there own hard work and money into this and making it was it is for every one. They give way more back tot he hobbie then what they ever take. -

The GM library is where you would call with the Vin# of the car that you was doing. You would get two packs, 1 was the way your car was order and how it was done and how many of them like it was built. 2nd pack was of all color, eng combo and every thing how that car could be built and how many of each was done. The 2nd pack would also cover like (Monte carlo) 1970 to 72 body style. and so on, Back in 2006 was the last time you could get the packs as every thing was either down sized or trashed canned that was not making money. You never paid for nothing, even shipping cost was cover by GM. -

Funny you bring some thing like this up.. 25yrs ago this coming March I was the first west Michigan Kart driver to ever win the World Karting Asso, Hortsmen Gold Cup Winter Nationals as a rookie and also set the track record that still stands in the books. It was 2006 till some one from this side of Michigan would do it again in the Grand nationals in WKA. At that time also I was team mates to people you may see race in TV now or seen. Jason Keller (Nascar BGN) Shane Hall (Nascar BGN) Mark Dismore from Comet Karting and also Indy car driver. Paul Tracy. I won the 86 WKA Winter Nationals and 86 and 89 World Northern Nationals. In 87 and 88 I won the International Karting World Street Championships. I move to stock cars and ran in Michigan and then moved down south to run in the defunk All Pro Divison. from the karting in 84 to 90 was better stats then most of today top tear drivers in the world. In 6yrs of karting here is the stats: 374 starts, 91 A Main Wins, 297 Top 3s, 335 Top 5s, 364 top 10s ps Pete I have not forgot about you, we had a late Christmas due to my father and it will be on the way to you.

Has any one use the stuff that come's the qurt size? The paint and they have like three different clear coats you can use. Whats the good/Bad and what all brands do you use for like primer and such under it. See it today at a Store over in kalamazoo and was just thinking of trying it but for $21 a qurt of paint and $28 for clear I would like to know some more on this subject.

Curtis, I'm too not the best speller as my job never wanted me to be or even said I had to be a great speller! Just use numbers and program C-N-C machines and read blue prints and make sure machines ran ok.. Nothing more nothing less but I have to agree about the spell check on here about down loading stuff. Not to fon of that type of thing for this board to have the way I look at it, But at the same time easy thing to do is open up IE (Internet Explore) in a different window, I mean by down sizing this page to your desk top and then left clicking on IE and bring up either Fire Fox or Yahoo web site and just type in the word you are trying to spell. This helps me out as close as I can get to doing it also. Cruz, That was my point as I see it i'm not going to sit here and tell people what not to use or to use when doing some thing. It's not my job nor is it any one els job to tell people that. I have talk to Mr Yost in person at the NNL East last year. He is a great person to talk to and compare idea's on painting and what to use if you are trying to do sertin things. We also got on the subject of the Urethane and not once did he down me for it or even tell me to NOT use it! He told me what to look for and how to use it to achive the looks I want and how to not make it look so think.. One thing I did and have talk to a specialest on the subject that use the stuff a lot more days then I do as it his job to do it every day, He told me what brand and how to use it and make it where you can shoot urethane out of the air gun at 12psi with out thinning it. Did I ever say its not toxic NO I never once side it was not this, Nor did I say you should not use the right precaution's when using this.
-
For one urethane maybe toxic but you or no one can tell me that the ###### Tamiya paint or even testers is not a toxic specialy when it blows out of the can at 75psi into the air. That ###### will get you just as sick if not worse because its in a can then using Urethane... Using an airbrush and shoot it at 12psi and as small as a model car body is a lot different then shooting a hood or any thing of 1:1. The air and urethane ratio is a lot less and if you have a paint booth it cuts it down even more. You can controal the air and how much of it comes out of the airbrush compare to using any can type paint. Sorry but that deal of Urethane should only be sold to people that has a permit is ######! Now for the shine! In the mid 80s the true Trailer queen cars was having any where between 10 to 15 coats of clear on them go back and read some of the magazine on how they did there paint jobs! They achive the same doing it this way as we do now only doing 1 coat of urethane. If you want to build a trailer queen car of today then use urethane, Also I think a lot of people forget of today that 90% of the 30s cars are not steel, They are fiberglass cars and with paint lay'ed down right and clear coated and wet sanded with any clear coat you will get the same afect!

Pete, I will save ya the trip down to Delahaye USA.. It's just his main office in NJ.. The cars are made all over the world and you would have to know what one your looking for and as Terry where it is at. The Zephyrs are made down in Fl and that red one is being made down in south america. The buggotti coupe and roadsters are made in Ind. He contracts out all the work to other ares and shops that want to build his stuff.

chroming resin parts???
Chas SCR replied to camarobuilder's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I use Chrome Tech for about any thing that I need done in big stuff, Bumpers and grills.. I have done my own stuff from chassis up to every thing using the Alsa Corp Chrome and love it but the last stuff I needed done is more of the cartoon look or over the top kit chrome so Chrome Tech is doing this project for me. For Alclad this stuff does not do a true chrome look on bigger stuff like bumpers and rims. Also you can not clear over it or handle it very much or it will rub off... I do have a friend down in Port Rico that is bring me some of the poweder stuff at the GSL and I can not wait to get that. Simon is turning me on to it plus he can get it over in Mexico when he visits for a lot cheeper price then we can here in the states. -
RMR Resin release 39 Zephyr
Chas SCR replied to Chas SCR's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Jon, Terry Cook the former owner of "Scrape" over seen this project since 2007.. He still has the rights to the name for sales with Delahaye USA and Deco Rides USA.. He also gave us exclusive rights to the name for the 1/24th scale of it. We are also working on the Deco Liner with the scooter. That will be a complete kit with every thing to build the sedan and bike. -
Also this week just in time for Toledo, RMR Resin has just released the 39 Zephyr "Scrape" kit. This kit you get the body, head lights, grills and the tail pipes and plate. Option you can order the aluminum tail pipes from RMR. This kit takes a the 41 Lincoln kit for the chassis and tires. It is a curb side.

Here is some shots of the Skull shifter that I did for this project this last week. Hope you guys like it.

They are a water base paint so they can be sprayed over any base. For thinning you will find you do not have to thin the transparent colors as they are thin as it is. Shoot them between 10 to 15 psi. For clear you will not get the true affect of there colors with out going to a urethane clear.. The normal createx paints are more for doing shirts and other little hobbie stuff then model cars. The Auto Air (own by createx) is more made for doing on real cars and doing air brushing detail for 1:1 cars. This stuff would be more for doing what we do.
