  1. My latest interest has been 50's/60's customs and this is my current and first build. As far as customs are concerned this is about as far as I want to go. In local contests to compete the car must have at least 20% modifications.
  2. Yes I agree it is a generation thing. You have "Customs" and you have "Show Car Customs". "Show Cars are built to win trophies and gain recognition for their shops and increase their customer base. "Customs" are mostly built by your average Joe trying to impress his buddies and the Chicks. I like the Show Cars to a point but some go over even my level of taste. But I still admire the work and effort that goes into them as I do most other categories of cars . Except Rat Rods, The term Rat Rod is used somewhat loosely. Some are basically Old School Hot Rods but them when you get to the bottom of the spectrum with everything found in the junkyard is just welded on and you need a tetanus shot to go near them. Some folks like them and I can respect that. For me it takes zero talent to throw together a rolling scrap pile that will soon return to junkyard from whence it came. But it must be the "Generation" thing
  3. Finally got thru to Customer Service, They said the postal Carrier should have come back when asked and should have written the required information on the missed delivery slip (it was blank) Acknowledged the two none redeliveries (I have confirmation numbers) . They scheduled another redelivery for monday. We will see what happens tomorrow.
  4. Shipping woes are being compounding. I have had packages shipped FedX and UPS that was transferred to USPS . The last one started out in California, came north and actually stopped here in Portland (2 days) then went up to Spokane then did a couple bounces around Washington state, then transferred to USPS where it came back to Portland. This was about a 10 day tour of the PNW.
  5. Just a trend of the times. Everybody wanted to be like Barris.Kopper Kart, Outlaw, Beatnik Bandit, and many more. Similar to the "Rat Rod Trend of today. Only the "Customs" showed some talented building skill as opposed to the"Rat Rod" Look thru the photos in Kustomrama and Rick Hoving pages you will see some strange customs for sure. I scratch my head on some of their ideas on many.
  6. Norm always ships signature. My postal route is a "substitute" route . We get different carriers and at all times of the day.
  7. Maybe my meds from my recent surgery are making me cranky but the USPS are about useless . I ordered some parts from R&M and as usual Norm got them out fairly quickly and sent them priority signature. They were supposed to be delivered last Saturday. I happened to be in the hospital for emergency Gallbladder surgery so my son was to be there to sign for the parts. My son is disabled and isn't able to move very quickly. The letter carrier knocked on the door and it took a minute or two for my son the answer the door. When he got there the postman was one house away and my son hollered at him and asked if he could come back, he just threw a arm in the air and said no. (rant #1). I went thru the online USPS site for redelivery to get it delivered as per instructions and set up a time on the third, Nothing showed up. Resubmitted for a drop off the fifth and still no show. We have confirmations on both redeliveries. (rant#2). I would sure like to get my parts for my build. Sorry Rant over
  8. Looking for a scale hand grenade for a shift knob. Thanks
  9. Hard to tell but it looks like the Dupli Color Wrap paint. Goes on thick and peels off fairly easy. Looks good for frames and undercoating . I think over time it would start fading and peeling . Instruction say you need to recoat occasionally.
  10. Sounds great Gerry. Not starting on it yet, Too many club build challenges going on. Thanks
  11. Only picture I have of mine
  12. Thanks. I will wait for your tutorial to come out. This is a future project anyway. Trading the stinger hood would work for me. I will start looking around for one.
  13. I want to build a replica of my 67 SS/RS Camaro. Just picked up the Mickey Camaro so I need to find a SS hood. What are my options ?
  14. Nice people to talk to in person. Picked some clear and paint at a Show/swap meet in Milwaukee Or. I haven't got the project that I bought them for but after reading all this I may have to bump it up the list. Will you be going to any more model swap meets in the Portland area ?
  15. you might check out some of the offerings at Replicas & Miniatures . They have a couple sets. I ordered a set that was originally in their Tweedy Pie (original ) kit
  16. Kind of surprised there were no Bradley GT models produced
  17. Not sure the Cobra fits in this group It started out as a car not a kit car. Although there are kits (1:1) to make a Cobra Kit Car most model kits are of the Cobra not the Cobra Kit Cars. (Now I am confused)
  18. My club gets a 10% discount at HB. My club also puts on seminars at both HT and HL. Hobby towns main concern is RC and model cars are an after though so they carry minimal amounts of anything. You can order what you need but it may be awhile before it comes in.
  19. Thanks I will have to see if I can locate one. Only kit I have for 53 is theMPC. Thanks
  20. Ace, that is exactly what I was looking for. I resume that none are available in a kit or resin. I could possibly scratch build one Thank
  21. They just opened up a Hobby Lobby in my area. As far as Model car kits they have about the same as Michaels. They do have other models that Michaels doesn't carry but carry a lot of the other art stuff that Michaels carries. With their similarities in store stock and coupons available I thought maybe they were both connected in ownership in some way.v Your thoughts ?
  22. Building a 56 Ford mild custom with tri power. Trying to decide what air cleaner(s) to use . Did they use any one piece air cleaners back in the 50's/60's ? I have the standard round chrome ones that are commonly used and the finned ones that was in my Tri Power kit from R&M of which I can not seem to find any 1:1 air cleaners to compare them with. (pictured)
  23. Meecum Auctions this week. Some interesting cars coming up. The Golden Sahara and the Kookie T (in it's newest form) on Saturday. Lots of detail photo opportunities,
