  1. Played acoustic for a while in a folk band, the drums for several years in 3 or 4 part-time bands in the Hamilton area. This was the mid-70s. Gave the drums to my sons (never got off the ground with them), and haven't played anything since. I do miss it!
  2. Ok, fair enough. But, let's all just relax and get back to building, for money or fun, whatever the motivation.
  3. WOW - this has gone on far farther that I would have thought (although, having seen some of the posts, guess it is a pretty sore spot for A LOT of people..!!). Maybe a little perspective is in order: 1 - it IS a HOBBY 2 - nobody will DIE/SUFFER LIFE-THREATENING DISEASES if the 57 Chevy has the wrong engine 3 - who REALLY cares about MY model? Do I REALLY care about YOUR model? 4- You build to please yourself, I build to please myself. Yes, perhaps the factory '64 Impala was never painted Purple/Green interior, but, THAT'S THE WAY I WANT MINE TO LOOK. Should you give a rat's __s? Leave it alone and move on if you don't like it. That's what I do. Seriously, keep it real. PS -being a very newby, I joined to pick up tips, since I am just getting back into this HOBBY. I have found some awesome builds and excellent tips, and want to keep seeing the excellent builds/how-to tips, and in-progress pics so I can incorporate them into my builds. That's why I joined. Not for the drama.
  4. Excellent suggestion. This way, there should be no noses out-of-joint because someone offered some well-intentioned criticism/advice to a poster who wasn't looking for it.
  5. Innovative use for sprue........
  6. WOW!! Just looked through the model car article (and, maybe, just maybe, some of the other stuff.....), and - it REALLY REALLY bothers me that I HAD that issue back in the day, but don't now. Moving and moving again, etc. stuff gets "lost"... Thanks for the link!! Was fun to read. Sorry to go off-topic.
  7. Thanks for the info guys. And thanks Tomo for the pics, looks like a good kit. Think I'll get one.
  8. wondering if anyone has any knowledge about this kit, thinking of picking one up. Comments re: quality, fit/finish, etc? TIA
  9. Yes, Pleasantville certainly comes to mind, also always makes me think of Back to the Future Pt. 1, good ol' Hill Valley.............
  10. Ah, must have missed that in the tons of posts here. Agree totally!
  11. I have a suspicion that the latest recalls are simply GM doing a CYA thing to prevent further "real" issues. Likely top management went to every division and put it bluntly - "If you know of ANYTHING that COULD cause a major problem because of suspect parts, we need to know NOW". So, you get employees surfacing (or, perhaps it's a secret thing), indicating that such-and-such a car COULD have such-and such an issue, based on parts that are not QUITE up-to-spec, but we decided they were "good enough" at the time. Better to be safe than sorry, given that everyone will now be jumping onto the lack-of-recall bandwagon any time something goes wrong with their car. And to prevent further bad press showing that GM KNEW the issues with the parts but refused to take any action. So, now, over-act and catch everything before it comes back to bite you. Just a thought.
  12. Just saw this - excellent work!! I owned a '75 Cutlass "S" in exactly the same color - can't recall the interior color, but from the outside, it's a perfect match. Great work, and thanks for the memories.
  13. Thanks - and, just noticed that about the name, will fix.
  14. Thanks for the welcomes, think I'll like it here!
  15. Hi, just joined. Have been browsing, and, I have got to say, the cars displayed have really blown me away!! I haven't modelled cars for, say, 30 or so years, but recently retired, so thought this might be a good time-waster (time-user..??). I'm sure I won't be able to duplicate the level of detail I have seen on these cars, but, I will try to make mine at least realistic so they don't look like a 12-year-old's effort. Current boxes, not started: Testor 06 Dodge Charger Daytona Unknown 75 Cutlass S AMT 66 Riviera AMT 69 Cutlass 442 W30 AMT 72 Chevelle SS plus a couple more kits I bought as a package deal. Looking forward to watching the build threads, some very good info there!!
