  1. Besides being a Corvette enthusiast, I've also been partial to Monte Carlos. I've owned a '73, a '74 454, a 94 Z34, and a 2002 SS. This is the only Monte Carlo model I remember building many years ago. Not my best paint job but looked pretty good from a few feet away.
  2. Nice build and interesting color. My favorite Chevelle body style. I've built one or two too.
  3. I've built dozens of Corvette models, and owned a few real ones (http://www.shamblesmodels.com/real-cars.html). I sold off my entire model collection when I downsized and moved in 2017, but still have photos of most of them on my site. I regret selling this particular model because my late brother gave it to me many years ago. It was a glue bomb he found at a flea market and. although he was an experienced model builder, he knew I'd make this one right. I carefully took it apart, stripped the thick, brushed on paint and spent many hours prepping it. None of the models back then had pad printed white lettered tires, but I managed to get it pretty close with a paint brush, a steady hand, and young eyes. My first real Corvette was a '72 coupe.
  4. Back when stock cars were still "stock". Now they're just identical, colored jelly beans. Nice build.
  5. Cool that you delivered Buck Baker's news papers. I tried to watch the race at Charlotte yesterday, but after the BS, wrastling-like intro, I just had to turn it off. Last year, they made Charlotte into a road course which was way more fun to watch than most of the boring, round and round and round of the super speedways. Have yall noticed that many of the tracks have resorted to different colored grand stand seats and camera long shots? That's supposed to make us think there are fans there, but they're empty seats. NASCAR abandoned it's baby boomer base. The millenials just ain't interested regardless of all the rap music and flashy stuff.
  6. I've found that most forums have a file max size that will upload. I take photos with my iPhone on max res, then use Photoshop to reduce the image to 760 max pixels. This always seems to work for me.
  7. I had no idea what "trog" was. Now I know.
  8. I was a huge Terry LaBonte fan. He was a gentleman race car driver. I built the Piedmont Airlines kit way back when: http://www.shamblesmodels.com/race-cars.html
  9. Thanks yall. I've been building model cars since the mid 50s.
  10. Yeah me too. Back then, they were really "stock" cars. Now there are just three brands, all identical jelly beans with different decals. One of them ain't even American... Toyota.
  11. I may have gotten in over my head, trying to create my own classic NASCAR models that I've never seen kits for. This one is going to be one of Buck Baker's 1958 NASCAR Impalas. He also had a convertible. I saw a photo somewhere with this white/burgundy color combo. I'm also experimenting with one body, grinding off the side trim, then using filler. I've seen some old NASCAR photos where some had the trim intact, others had it removed. Once I get my model room set back up, I'll do some custom, water slide decals to match the photos I've found online.
  12. I started this Mobius kit a couple months ago, then got started remodeling my house. I'll have a much better model room when I'm done but, meanwhile, I've put several builds on hold.
  13. I've been building models on and off since I was a kid in the 50s. I got back into it seriously when I retired in 2012. I moved to FL in 2017 and, planning on downsizing, I sold off my entire collection of builds, kits, supplies, tools and die cast. I got settled in last year and started collecting and building again. I'm working on my modest website where I have photos of some of my old stuff: http://www.shamblesmodels.com
