  1. Building the current kit of the AMT Double-dragster Fiat.. Using the Blown Chrysler engine.. the problem is the fuel pump.. this is typically driven off the front of the camshaft..when you mount the fuel tank under the hood, it sits almost against the blower belt, leaving no room for the pump. Most of these that I have seen built leave the pump off, or turn the blower belt upside down, and mount it to the idler pulley..The instructions make no mention of the pump . There is one included in the kit, to be used with the fuel injection engine.. Looking to see what other people have done...
  2. A truck is a truck, you say... I don't care how they arrange this forum..Each thread is labelled and I can skip the pickups, if I don't to read about them.. Contests are a different story... entering a hotrod in the truck class, instead of the hotrod class, because there are"fewer entrants over there" is one of two complaints I have.. The other is having the people that judge the hotrod class judge the truck class too.. I have seen fully detailed half scratchbuilt tractor trailers passed over completely, for three early Ford trucks, that couldn't hold their own in the hotrod class... I have even asked judges why they passed over large trucks,,, "Oh it's just an out-of-the box build," on the above said tractor trailer, that was fully detailed, with a mostly scratchbuilt trailer, that probably had 2-300 hours in it... I have also seen cars that were built completely stock, but modified into a different version ( a 55 Ford Fordor comes to mind) passed over for hotrods... what this works out to, is judges look at what they know, and what they like... and the otherthing is the contest i went to in St, Louis yesterday had two tractor-trailers, one box stock 32 chevy panel, and 4 other small trucks, two of which were hotrods, 10 years ago there would have been 10-15 class6-8 trucks there...the builders were there, just not the trucks.... none of the above were my models, i quit entering trophy contests, in about 1987..... Solution? hotrods compete in there own class, big truck class is judged by the entrants, each gets two votes.... jim a.
  3. Thanks.. a lot of the magazines I subscribe to have a place on their website, that you can check.. I was hoping there was one here too...
  4. Where do I go to find out if my subscription is up to date?
  5. I'd like to thank everyone for their replies... I will probably go with a two gallon glass jar with screw on lid primarily because I build a lot of trucks , and this will allow for the extra length And maybe a small box as well....
  6. For those of you who have a "Purple Pond', what do you keep it in? My previous one...I used a plastic shoe box, but it didn't seal well, so I poured the stuff back into the gallon container when not in use. This worked ok, but sometimes made a mess. Eventually, something happened, and the gallon container developed a leak, which ran all over the floor, and made a big mess. I had considered using a 5 gallon pickle bucket, but the lids on these don't always fit tight either.. and I have had these to split across the bottom. Thanks, Jim A.
  7. The article in the December issue works well for resizeing and printing plates that you have, or can get.. Does anyone have a source or method for obtaining plates that aren't easily available? In my instance, I would like 10-15 sets of Missouri truck plates, and trailer plates from 1975... These are not the same as car plates, and are not available at Acme.
  8. On the balls in the link.. if you scroll down from the picture, it says they are 1/2 inch tall overall, thread length 1/4, ball size 3/16, and 4-40 threads.... Irf they made these in 0-80, with an 1/8 inch ball, or 00-90 with a 3/32 ball they would be about right. a 2" ball would be .080 dia. in 1/25th scale... Jim A.
  9. i have a Badger 200 (single action) and a Badger 150 ( double action) . with that I have a Sears 4 gallon pancake compressor, and a moisture trap with a regulator.. I prefer the single action for painting large areas, because once you get the paint flow set, all you need to to do is push down the button... My single action 200 has the medium head, and needle, the double action has the fine head for detail stuff.. If you purchase a water trap with a regulator, and 25 feet of hose, you can put your compressor in a closet, or across the room, mount your watertrap/reg. on your paint boothe and adjust your pressure at the regulator.. Cuts down the noise, and makes things more enjoyable... Jim A.
  10. We got less than inch in St Louis, it's 35 degrees, sun shining, and I think I will spend the rest of the day building models, or taking a nap.... or maybe taking a nap in my modeling chair......
  11. The store on Eichelberger, was still there this morning....LOL This one has aisles almost two feet wide.....
  12. I have a Badger 200 (single action ) and a 150 ( double action) ... the 200 does as good a job as any for painting car bodies... I s pray testors, Model Master, and Humbrol thru mine.. use hardware store mineral spirits to clean... A friend uses WATER_BASED acrylics....he has a one gallon milk jug with part of the top cut off...fills full of water.. Takes the paint cup off, emerses the front end up to the air hose under water, and sprays under the water, sucking water in thru the fill hole...
  13. Wouldn't it be easier to just add a shelf?
  14. I bought a Clydesdale and a shire horse made by Schliech (sp?) at Target in the toy section for 4.95/each... These are both draft horses, so they will look large in 1/25, but are close to correct.....
  15. " I usually end up at the dining room table so I can watch TV. " Why not buy a TV for the Model Room?
  16. I don't see a problem..well ..there is stuff on the chair.. you have to be able to sit......
  17. I have a particular liking for Rotel Cheese dip,Doritos, and regular Coca-Cola.... as there always seems to be plenty of this at Superbowl parties...I'm good....
  18. This is a wonderful thought...my first thought is.....Every plastic kit in the place would need to start at 100.00.... You have to pay for pizza, soda etc... There was at one time a hobby shop in St Louis, that did this for gamers, and Checkered Flag Hobby Shop does this for crafts, and all the scrapbooking places my wife spends her money in, do this for scrappers... I say go for it.. and tell us how it turns out.....most of us don't have the money or time to devote to this.....
  19. Just to let you know....if you find the kit in the Ebay link..you will be seriously disappointed...neither the tanks or wheels shown in the photo on the box are in that kit... however....the release before that.. that had the red truck with chrome ten-holes, and round tanks on the box, had both sets of wheels, and both sets of tanks....the kit you are actually looking for is #6129....
  20. Thought I would add mine on here too...
  21. What would have been nice..... Including the looooooong frame, ...from the box truck...
  22. 13 and counting... Guess I oughtta post more often ,Huh????? Name below....
  23. That's probably a 47-54 chevy or gmc with the factory rear axle... the u-bolts have to be installed that way because it's a torque tube axle.. there is no rear u-joint.. so the entire axle pivots on that bolt you see in the photo.. if you u-bolted the axle to the spring...the spring would bind.. and eventually break by the way thats the correct way to lower a pre-55 chevy car ...for the same reason .....
