  1. Thank you for all the great suggestions. I have a micro drill bit set and pin vise, so I think I will try to pin some of my parts. Now all I have to do is figure out how to hold the small parts while I drill them.
  2. I tried it on a steering wheel, and it fell right off the next day. Thanks I will try liquid kind.
  3. I build model trucks and have read about a hundred topics on what type of glues to use and where. I've been using CA to glue on detail parts like mirrors, emblems, and other parts that are hard to glue to a finished paint job. I read where CA glue is real big in model building, and even read where one guy builds his models only using CA glue. So here is my question. Why do my parts keep breaking off? I just touch them a little and they fall off. I'm using a gel type glue. I figure if some guy can build a whole model out if it, it should be able to hold on a cab grab handles.
  4. 1/16" metal welding rod. I got a 3' piece from my local auto parts store and it cost me 25 cents.
  5. Nice job on the dash. Your hand is way steadier then mine.
  6. I got the frame painted. I also painted the cab and outer part of the bed. I had some issues with the black paint I used. The paint was some real old stuff I had lying around and I figured I would use it up. It turned out dull and looks like there is a ton of dirt in it. Must have gone bad. Sanding and polishing is not an option because to the rivets on the cab. I'm either going to have to strip it and try again, or I have been thinking that I might keep the old "tired" paint look and do some weathering. I still have a Rustall kit left over from my HO days. Anyway, this is my update.
  7. Looks real good. What did you do to make the tips of the stacks look like they have had thousands of miles of exhaust coming out of them?
  8. That is very nice. I am building one of those now, and it is neat to see one that has already been finished. The trim like the mirrors and grab handles must be difficult to put on. I see there are no holes in the body for placement.
  9. Yes you will need to thin the paint, but you will have to experiment as to how much.
  10. Thanks for all the encouragment. This is only my second build, so I hope my skills match the vision I have in my head.
  11. I bought a few model kits that someone never put together off Ebay, and it included a tow truck bed. Most of the tow trucks you see are conventionals, so I thought a cab over would be a fun project, since I have 2 K-123 kits. First thing I did was move the rear suspension back and then lengthen the frame by 4 scale feet. Then I looked at if for a couple days, and shortened the frame back up. I decided I liked the short squatty look better. I also moved the fuel tanks back so they would fit under the wrecker body. I plan on painting it black, with red frame, wheels and inner wrecker bed. I did find out I was missing the little wheel that is on the end of the boom that the cable goes over, but I'm sure I will find something.
  12. Thanks. Looks like policecarmodels.com has what i'm looking for. I just need a light bar and a couple bubble lights for a tow truck i'm building. They have clear so I can just paint the lenses with my amber turn signal paint.
  13. Where can I get a light bar or single rotating lights like you would have on top of a tow truck? 1/25 scale.
  14. That looks great! On the interior "leather", how did you make the low spots between the diamonds look darker? It really adds a 3D effect to the interior. It actually looks "soft".
  15. Thank you for the nice comments. I see what you mean about the tires, and I will fix it. My biggest complaint about this model kit is the lack of detail. I also didn't like how the cab lights and air horn mounting studs are visible inside the cab. But I guess I could have fixed that....
  16. Here is my first try at big rig building. It is a Revell Pete 359. I learned a lot from this build, (especially when it comes to paint), and I look forward to the next. Please forgive the picture quality. I wanted to take them outside, but we have been having a spell of bad weather here in the north. I still have a pogo stick to add to the back, but I am still trying to decide on the best way to mount it.
  17. On my latest 1/25 scale modeling project, I can't seem to find the exact color I need in model spray paints, but I have found the exact color I need in those automotive spray touch up cans. It is a metallic color, so I was wondering if there is a difference in the metal flakes in automotive vs modeling paint? Would the automotive paint have metal flake that is too large by scale?
  18. Up by the bridge in Cheboygan.
  19. Hello all. I've recently started building models again after a 10 year break. I used to build Mopar muscle cars, but looking for something different, I am jumping into the world of Big Rigs. My first project is a Revell Peterbilt 359. One of the cheap almost snap together models. Not big in the detail department, but good to get my feet wet with though. I've looked at a lot of pics you guys have posted of your big rigs, and wow, what can I say. They are amazing! I already have a big case of big rig envy. I only hope that I can do half as good as some of the ones I saw.
  20. Thanks for the help. I placed an order with him. The order process is a bit odd though.
  21. I've recently started building big rigs after building almost every Mopar twice. I'm not looking for an award quality build, but I like to add as many details as I can. I did a Google search and found an acceptable way to make coiled air lines for my trucks, but a tractor without a trailer, the air hose looks stupid without a glad hand on the end of it. While I was searching on a way to make air hoses, I ran across a site that sells 1/25 glad hands, but I didn't save the site because I wasn't interested at the time. Now that I need them, I can't find any place that sells them. Anybody know a site that I can order glad hands from? Or an easy way to make them? Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks
