  1. Wayne, I'm just curious..is there ANY model you touch that doesn't turn into a masterpiece? That old Dodge is one sick looking truck! Great job Buddy!!!!
  2. Great job on that old Mopar. The color combo and clean building style really makes this car sparkle.
  3. What a great job on a gorgeous kit and car. The '62 has long been one of my favorite classic Bowties and the mods you made to this kit really turned it into a unique resto-mod. Excellent choie of mods, colors, and the execustion really paid off in the end. Simply beautiful!!!
  4. Shoot me your address Paul. I have a set I can spare.
  5. Well, if I knew this topic would stir so many feathers I would have simply kept my thoughts to myself. Sorry...
  6. I've seen benches where it looks like an assembly line. A stack of chassis here, a pile of drivetrains there and various bodies packed in boxes. I, like so many others, have many projects started and always seem to start another. Occasionally I'll get a wild hair and just wrap up some of my previous starts and it looks like I've gotten a bunch done, when in all actuality, I'm just wrapping up alot of previously started mdoels thast have been sitting, in some cases, for many years. Like has been said before, it's all about the fun of the hobby and not the quantity of builds you put out. As long as you enjoy the hobby, at the end of the day, that's all that matters. After all, who cares how many you actually finish?
  7. Monogram did the '86 Monte SS that was molded in black. They also did the Aerocoupe kit several years later which was done as an '87. Both kits came with factory stripes, the '86 coming with the red/orange factory stripe package and the '87 Aerocoupe coming with a sheet of various colors of stripes including gold, and red. Fred Cady also did decals to replicate the '83 and '84 SS Monte Carlo as they were entirely different than the '85 and up SS's. Hope this answers your questions.
  8. While at the LHS today I was browsing the magazine rack and realized there are some empty slots in the rack. While I did find my Model Cars Magazine, I noticed the "other" publication was missing. When I asked the owner, he told me dropped the "other" periodical due to rapidly declinign sales and increased stipulations for ordering the magazine. I was at a Hobby Town last weekend and they also dropped a certain publication due to "increased hassles" when trying to deal with the publisher. Gotta make you wonder what's going on...besides the obvious! Living proof that if you put a qiality publication together, they WILL come. Congrats on an awesome magazine Gregg!!! Your hard work is paying off.
  9. This is my stash and work area. These pics are a couple years old though and don't include pics of the 100+ drag kits I've added to the collection. I have more kits packed away than I do on the shelves now...
  10. I have watched some of the auction this weekend, but not as much of it as I used to. I have been impressed with some of the prices I've seen these cars bring this year. The past couple of years the prices dropped because of the economy but this year it seems the prices are going back up again. Some of the cars i've seen this year that I thought would bring a good chunk of change didn't bring much and others I didn't give much of a chance blew me away. just goes to show, you never know. One thing to remember about the whole Barrett-Jackson thing. It's all a show and it's all about money. This company didn't get where they are today by auctioning junk or setting unrealistic reserves on the cars they bring in. As for the post you made, just like everyone, you're entitle to your opinion, but you shouldn't be upset or surprised they edited your response the way they did. I'm just sayin'...
  11. If you go to the Miller Industries website, you can download the drawings for the wrecker bodies they produce. They have drawings for Challenger, Century, Vulcan, and a few others on their site as they currently own those companies. Those drawings will give you a good idea on how to fabricate a more modern style of wrecker body if you so choose. The company I used to tow for had 4 trucks with the same wrecker body as what comes in the Italeri kits so I will be able to build the trucks we had with little modification. I got lucky with that.
  12. A very sweet looking rig so far, that's for sure. I'm also learning the finer art of detailing these kits to give them some added realism. My father has a metal lathe he has offered to me as well as he is in his 80's now and isn't playing with power machinery as much as he used to, for good reason, I might add. I would like to start machining some aluminum pieces for the truck kits over the summer to use on my future projects. Keep us posted on this truck. It is definitely a sweet ride so far!!!
  13. I hope you feel better soon Dave. My step-son had his jaw wired shut from an MVA a few years ago. It sucked feeding him food blended thin enough to suck through a straw. Only kid I know that got sick of milk shakes. If you need anything, let me know. We're not too far away from eachother after all.
  14. Thanks for the replies guys. I knew you had done an article on the '70 Boss Tim, but I can't find the issue in my collection that had it. I agree with the consensus Jairus, your Mustang is one gorgeous looking car. I bet it would still win awards if you showed it today! The 'Stang I am building is going to be black with a black interior so I will be going with the red oxide color of primer underneath with the overspray. Thanks again for the pics and help!!!!
  15. What color were the chassis and underbodies of the 69 Mustang when they were new? I've seen some that appeared to have a reddish primer underneath and still others with the floorboards and such painted what appeared to be the body color. I'm just curious what the correct finish is for a factory fresh '69 Mustang Fastback. Any help and clarification is appreciated.
  16. Reservations are made and the plans have been finalized. Not usre how many models I'm bringing this year, but I'll have a few to display. Looking forward to going after a couple year hiatus.
  17. The LIARS show has always brought out some of the best the Northeast modelers have to offer and it's plain to see this year's event was no exception. Sweet models and great pics! Thanks for sharing!
  18. Thanks for plugging along on this tutorial Bill! I HATE foiling models. I think it ranks as one of the worst things I have to do when building a model. Unfortunately, modeling 60's and earlier cars and trucks, I'm relegated to fighting the devil when it comes to foiling. I have found that the Black Chrome BMF still does not stick well at all. I have purchased almost a dozen sheets and I have yet to find a sheet that has good adhesive. I have written off the Black Chrome foil, but have been able to use the Chrome foil without much trouble. I will be utilizing the chamois method in the future as well. I learn something new with every post you make in this thread!
  19. This is going to be a nice addition to any musclecar collection. I'm looking forward to seeing the buildup and seeing the final proportions. Definitely enticing so far.
  20. One thing to keep in mind with not only this hobby, but in everything in life, if you look to find the negativity in something, you will succeed without having to look very hard. Sometimes it's easier to stop at the negativity than to look past that part to see the positives in something. Remember, you'll almost always see the grey in the clouds before you see the blue behind them. It's always worth looking past the grey to seek out the blue in everything. Sometimes I think we forget that we are all different people here, from different backgrounds and different lifestyles. Does that make someone a bad person simply because they don't agree with an opinion or view we may have about something? Absolutely not. It just means that maybe someone is looking at something a bit differently than we're seeing things. Interpretation also comes into play. The way one modeler interprets something may not be the same way another hobbyist does. It doesn't mean there's a right and wrong, just a different point of view. We all love this hobby for one reason or another. Otherwise we wouldn't be participating in it would we? We also are a very passionate bunch to boot. Sometimes our passions cloud our sense of reason when trying to make a point and we don't always use our best judgement, or choice of words. It's when situations like this arise that we should take a step back, take a deep breath and regroup for the good of not only ourselves, but for forums like this and the hobby in general. Failure to do that only further serves to do this great hobby a disservice that could easily be avoided. Thanks for the postive thread Dave. We can all use more positives in our lives rather than negatives.
  21. Hmmmm..I wonder if AMT's '50 Chevy stepside pickup would qualify for this build..... Maybe an old derelict farm truck left to die quietly on a hillside somewhere...
  22. It's hard to put into words sometimes what influence someone has on another's life. Since hearing this news, which we all pretty much knew was coming, I spent some time sifting through old model mags, old posts and sites looking at what Bud was able to accomplish in this hobby. Maybe the first thing that comes to some's minds is the awesome models Bud was able to construct. To see him take a kit and turn it into a masterpiece was indeed an honor and a learning experience, no matter the subject. As Bob said earlier, Bud's attention to the finest detail and clean workmanship set his models apart from others on the contest tables he chose to display his work on. It was not uncommon for modelers to be admiring his work only to have Bud go on about how this could have been done better, how that was wrong with the finished product. Rest assured though, if Bud did see how he had not done something correctly, or found another way to better replicate something, you'd see his innovations on his next project. That's just the way Bud was. But, as I looked at the images of Bud's work and read all the words of condolences posted across the web since his passing, something even more prolific stood out about this man of modeling genius. Not only his genuine love for the hobby, but his genuine love and compassion for his fellow modeler shines brighter than any model he could ever build. Bud never slighted anyone in this hobby and did everything he could to promote the spirit of friendship and comraderie amongst his fellow hobbyists. Bud never considered himself better than anyone else and was always humble when compliments were paid to him and he accepted awards for his work. He was always the first to lend a helping hand to a fellow modeler, either by disclosing a technique he used on his models to even parting with a part or kit to assist a friend who needed something more than he did. Bud was always accessible to his friends in the hobby and made strangers feel welcome when he came in contact with them for the first time. Someone told me before I met Bud personally that once you meet the guy, you have a friend for life. That wasn't just a fable, but a truth. I never saw Bud take a disliking to anyone, bad mouth anyone, or put anyone down. The class Bud possessed was evident whenever you came in contact with him. He could see the best in one of the worst built models we could think of, always making a positive from a negative. Not only could we all learn alot from Bud as a modeler, we could all learn alot from him as a human being. This hobby is richer for having Bud involved in it, and his legacy will live on long after his passing. He will be sorely missed. We have all lost a great friend and ambassador to this hobby. Rest in Peace, my friend.
  23. Marshall, I actually carved bottles from 1'24th scale sprue before with some pretty convincing results. It takes a bit of time, but you can practically make any shape or size bottle with some sanding sticks and time. Just a thought...
  24. Definitely not the news we wanted to hear Todd. Thanks for keeping us updated on his condition.
  25. Does anyone have any updates on Bud's condition? He's been in our thoughts and prayers and was wondering if anyone had any updates.
