Good Guy Alert, 93Z34 Brian Batease

No worries Len. I was glad to be able to help you out with your needs. To me it's one of the benefits of this hobby to be able to help one another out when the opportunity arises. Both kits were nothing I had any immediate plans for, and with the many models I already have in my collection, I would rather see someone else enjoy them and express their talents by building them. Anytime you need anything Len, just let me know. -
For a rusted out truck, she sure looks beautiful! You did a great job weathering that old girl, that's for sure. you got the perfect effect with your efforts, that's for sure.

There's not enough "o"s in "smooooooooooth" to describe this Merc Tom! I love the Caron top version and the scalloped hood does just enough to really enhance the overall look of the car. Beautiful job so far!!!!
-
I like what you did with the hood on this Merc. I have several of these kits myself and would like to modify the hoods on a couple myself. That modification just makes the car look smoother in my opinion. I'm also partial to the Coral Blue as well.

Looks great so far! I'm impressed with the tight fit of the door. It's obvious you've done this before.

Bad news about our friend
93Z34 replied to RodBurNeR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Being in the medical field, it never ceases to amaze me how diseases such as cancer do not discriminate. I've seen people in the 20's with this disease and it can be very hard to take sometimes as a health care provider. One can only hope and pray a cure for this disease is found someday. Bud's work is unbelievable and he is definitely a pinnacle in today's hobby. His models are a joy to behold and his attitude and thoughtfulness toward others in the hobby is just as awesome as his builds. Thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family in this very trying time. -
Lesseeee...did my stints at the various auto dealerships as an auto tech when I was fresh out of high school. Spent 12 years in the USAF and got out with the drawdowns after Desert Storm. Spent over half my career in various countries as an aircraft mechanic and DCC of various airframes. After getting out I got my CDL and did alot of OTR driving for Swift and then transferred to their maintenance division. I eventually went to work as a heavy duty tow truck operator and operated a beautiful Pete 379 tri axle Rotator wrecker. I had a driveshaft explode on a new Peterbilt and endured 3 years of extensive rehab and surgeries for a shattered right hand and missing 4" chunk of skull over my left eye. The injuries succeeded in getting my DOT Physical revoked and I am now in the medical field. I am currently a tech in an Emergency Care Center and also a Paramedic. I also used to be a volunteer firefighter but left the fire service after spending over a month at Ground Zero on 9-11. I kept my Paramedic certification but walked away from the fire service after losing many friends from FDNY. I guess I'm not doing too bad for only having one fully functional hand. I could have taken permanant disability but I'm too young for that and even after suffering a heart attack back in March of this year, I'm still working and enjoying life. It don't get no better than that. Been modeling since I was 10 or 11 and just never really got sick of the hobby. Looking bcak, it's amazing how much has changed in the hobby over the years. For the most part the changes have been positive. It amazes me sometimes to see where i'm at today vs. where I thought I'd be 20 years ago. Just goes to show, you never know...

I agree, the underhood detailing really sets that car apart. Your buddy should be real happy with the job you did on that 'Stang. Fantastic work!!!

Killer finish! That is one clean build, that's for sure. Is that the Tamiya kit?
-
Looks good. The color choices sure give it an old nostalgia feel to it as well. The chop job is definitely unique as well.
-
You did a great job on that old kit. I agree that it would be nice to see Tamiya start issuing kits with detail like this again. I have a few of the older Tamiya kits myself and the detail is really sweet. Your clean building and painting really makes this vontage kit stand out and it's great to see kits like this being built!

Thanks Bill. I have already started utilizing alot of your other previously mentioned methods with my current projects. Still need a bit of practice with some, but I do see a big improvement over previous subjects I've tackled before. Still have a ways to go on the polishing cloths as i seem to have the uncanny knack of polishing through the paint and then having to start over again. I'll get the hang of it though.

Looks great so far. Keep in mind, Chevy put a turbocharged V6 into the Monte Carlo in '79 as well. It did have a bulge similar to the Grand National bulge, but it is another option to think about if you wanted to replace the kit engine with another, more detailed V6. The Monogram Grand National V6 would lend itself beautifully to this conversion. Just another option to throw out there.

So Bill, let me get this straight. You're saying if I brush Future on a bare plastic body it will "level out" without having to be sanded or otherwise treated? Like many others, this is the first I've heard about using Future as a barrier coat. All the other times I've heard of it's use, it's been for clearcoating. I just wanted to verify this with ya.

You've taken on a very in-depth project Mark and so far you are doing that kit some real justice! That framework looks absolutely beautiful and your forethought in regards to the exhaust routing and so forth really tells alot about the thought you've put into this project. I'm really looking forward to following along with this build as it progresses. Keep us updated!

Nice insoriation, that's for sure. I love the sweeping lines of the "Metallica" '36 Ford along the rear fenders. It eeally gives that car a whole different attitude. You should have one sweet looking project when it's done.
-
Nice conversion Chris! I like how you were able to bring the modified hood back to original. You don't see many Muscle Mopars turned into "everday" Mopars. Most of the time it's the other way around. Looks great so far!

Great job on a kit that leaves a bit to be desired in the accuracy department. I saw one with extensive mods made to the grille and headlight area to give it a more realistic appearance a while back, but I can't remember where. There was a ton of work put into it but the end results really gave the car a much more accurate look. The Shaker scoop clearance is an issue with this kit. Anyone I know who has tried to build the ragtop version of this kit has run into problems with hood clearance as well as other fit issues with the body. I don't really understand why either because the body is pretty much the same as the old Cuda body minus the roof. Any Mopar in a High Impact color is a sweet car, but the bright yellow is one you don't see much of. Your clean building style and execution of this Mopar really makes it stand out. Great job!!!
-
WOW!!!!!!! All of those builds are simply gorgeous! That Merc is absolutelty sweet! Is that the new Revell kit? You have a definite talent for replicating some gorgeous rods and Kustoms!!!
-
Regardless of where you got the style, it's one gorgeous car! I remember a time when the Camaros of this style were thumbed at by Camaro enthusiasts but now they are quickly becoming more collectible. With models like this being built, it's easy to see why. You did a fantastic job with that old AMT kit! Sure would be great to have this one re-issed again!!!!
-
That's definitely a cool spin on that old Chevelle. Your car looks great with lowered suspension but the paint job throws it over the top. Sweet car all the way around!!!
-
I think you put a ton of work into a Dodge that came out looking great! Your mods to the suspension, frame and body could rival some 1:1 customizers, that's for sure. Your ability to make the lines of this truck all flow together really created one gorgeous truck. What a sweet model!!!!
-
Some cars just look "right" in black and that is definitely one of them. You did a fantastic job replicating one of Ford's awesome old cars. Keep up the great work!
-
You definitely did a great job on that Chevy Pat. It's one of the most convincing builds I've seen done with this kit and your perseverence really paid off. That is one model to be proud of!!!!

I thought so Harry. After all, MCM sponsored an online forum contest for another model forum dedicated to emergency vehicles which was actually covered in an issue of MCM a few months back. Amazingly, one of the individuals who posted above also posted links for a drag racing forum several months ago himself "without the whining", yet he's whining here. And, for the record, it only stands to reason if there are troublemakers who like to instigate trouble on a forum, then chances are they will either be asked to take their leave or be removed involuntarily. Obviously from the posts in this thread by a select few individuals, I think everyone can see why they are no longer welcome or wanted on the forums they were removed from, or took their leave from of their own accord. History has definitely shown there are some in this hobby who simply love to try and stir up trouble and by their own admission here, they will voice their opinions, regardless of how offensive it might be and that shows a total disregard for the fellow forum members and the administrators of this site. Yep...people like this are definitely assets to the hobby.
