Ollie's strike again
KeithJackson replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I went ahead an opened mine to see if there was anything that I could use in my build. It is a basic curbside model. The two-piece tires kind of threw me at first. I am guessing that the original release was boxed differently since the instructions show different trees than came in this kit. In the instructions, it shows most of the white pieces on a single tree with the chrome parts on two trees. Now, the chrome is on one tree and the white parts on at least 5 trees. -

Since I am back working on my Aussieball Van, I may open up the one I bought. If I do, I'll post some pics. -

It doesn't surprise me about the truck & trailer kit. Being $20 it is still a bargain for someone who is interested in that type of stuff, but too expensive for an impulse type of buy. -

I was going to grab that, but instead just went ahead and bought the package that came with the trailer and car for $20. I figured that I couldn't beat $12 for a trailer and car. -
It crawled in there all on its own and went to sleep. At least until the other cats noticed.

Organizing spare parts

You can use hardware organizers like they have for screws, etc. They come with different size drawers so various stuff can be stored. -

I really enjoy looking at these cars, especially the before and afters. My question is this: How do you disassemble them without destroying them? I can see the paint stripping, but getting all the parts apart? -
Outside of models, I am into photography and electronics. Of course, I don't really do enough of any of them. As my father says, I am the "Master of unfinished projects". However, I do have a photo blog if anyone is bored enough to take a look. A lot of the pictures were taken with my good friend. We try to get together a couple times a year to do some photo stuff. Our next outing is planned for July to take in the Redbull Global Rallycross race that is being held in Washington DC. Here is a link to my blog: http://www.keithjacksonphotoblog.blogspot.com/

Ollie's strike again
KeithJackson replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, the one that I want to stop by on Sunday is pretty near to where the Mid Atlantic NNL is being held next month so I hope the guys from mamasboyz haven't gotten everything already. -

The problem for me is that some of the colors look really close and I can't remember what I already have. It is a lot easier to write down a list of paint codes than to write, "some kind of blue, not really dark, more of a medium". -

I plan on hitting another Ollie's Sunday on my way to work. Did you want me to grab you an SSR and Maverick if they have them? Also, which of the Crown Vics are you still looking for? I have seen some of those still around. -

Ollie's strike again
KeithJackson replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have been to a few Ollie's and there is one thing that I have noticed. Two of them were in Maryland and two were in Pennsylvania. The ones in MD had more of the older, muscle car variety, They had the 56 Chevy, the 71 Mustang, GTO, BHC Nova, etc. They PA stores had more of the newer cars, such as the Camaros, Ferrari, etc. I have picked up a bunch but only one of each kit with the exception of the Rammunition monster truck, the Little Red Wagon and the 56 Chevy. I was half tempted to get some of the model pirate pistols they had at the first one that I went to. I haven't seen them anywhere else since, although I have seen the life size pirate skull model a lot. -

Here is what I ended up getting from the first Ollie's that I went to. I figure a picture is easier than typing. I am hoping to hit one or 2 more tomorrow on my day off. -

I managed to hit up one Ollie's on my way to work tonight. I grabbed 9 different kits. I don't remember exactly which ones, and the receipt doesn't help too much. I know that I got the Ford F150, the Color Me Gone, the 71 Mustang, the Super Bee Charger, as well as a few others. I think that I got the 70s Firebird, but I know that I did not get the Beverly Hills Cop Nova. They had about 15 or so different models. I hope to hit one or 2 more shops over the weekend to see if I can get some of the ones that this location didn't have. -

I grabbed some of their Dupli-Color last time I was there. One of the problems is that they put their price sticker over the color name. -

I wish I had seen this thread earlier in the week. May days off this week were Sunday - Tuesday. I may have to try and get to the one by me (not really close) before I go to work Friday afternoon. -

I tried looking up the link that was listed in that rule and couldn't really find anything spelling out what a car had to have and could not have in order to be legal on the road. Do you have a link to where this is spelled out? Thanks. -
The All Scales Table

The best thing is that it does drive, even though it is basically a house on wheels. It was covered by Jeremy Clarkson a while back: -
The only way that I can see a digital dash being okay is if you could program the gauges to display in different colors for different things. Will the numbers turn red when you "redline it"? Have the numbers change color if they drop below or go above a certain level. Otherwise, I would think that it would make it harder to see and read a number and then figure if it is too high or low.

If they sell it, that means that I will never be able to afford it.

I got my box of issues Saturday. I am super stoked. Mine come from 2010 - 2014. I am so glad that I happened to be logged on at the right time to see that offer. My box had 41 issues so it comes out to about 70 cents each. No way was I going to turn that down.

Local Hobby Shp vs. Mega-Store
KeithJackson replied to CometMan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, my typing isn't what it used to be. Part of the problem is my touchpad on my laptop. I use a mouse so I normally have the touchpad turned off. Somehow it got turned back on and I am constantly bumping it and having to hold my hands in a weird way to try not to hit it and wind up screwing up. Add to that the fact that my brain works faster than my fingers and I have a huge mess.
