Is this too many models
KeithJackson replied to gray07's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My wife sometimes thinks that I have too many models, but I only have about 2 dozen. But then again, she has over 200 Barbie dolls. Her basic feeling is that it is okay as long as I keep the area looking neat and that I don't spend money on them that is needed for more important things. I can't fault her for that. I think that what bothers some people is if they see a picture that has 10 - 20 of the same kit in it as opposed to 10 - 20 different kits. Their thinking is "Why do you need more than one of the same kit?" I only have multiples of a couple kits. One that I was going to use in the Sleeperball Run last year and some NASCAR kits that I got at a great price. Some people have mentioned in here about the difficulties in selling kits. One thing with that is the shipping. When the shipping costs can cause the price of a kit to double or more, it becomes a problem. I bought most of mine locally from flea markets and such. I am waiting to see what this summer will bring. -
I was checking out a different Ollie's from the one I normally go to in order to see what they had. They just had the state police cars, but they also had the Silly Surfer models that some of you have been discussing. They also had some of the Frantics, also by Hawk. They had at least 3 out of the 4 in the set. I wish that they had the Weird-Ohs. I might have bought some of them.

I grabbed a couple kits from my local Ollie's since my sister in law gave me a gift card for Christmas. Only got the F-150 Flareside and the Tennessee Police Crown Vic. Mine never has much to choose from. Never thought about the toy discount applying. Where did you find the paints? Were they back with the tools and other paint and stuff? I never thought to look for that.

Super. Since they are both Tamiya models, I am hoping that they at least use similar mounting methods. -

That would be great. I already have the GC, I just need to find where I put the instructions. Thanks. -

Thanks. Given my skills, or lack thereof, I thought making a dash might be out of my realm. I was thinking about buying one of the Land Cruiser kits since it looks nice and it comes with parts for both versions. I am thinking about building the Tamiya Grand Cherokee and was hoping that the RHD dash from the Land Cruiser would kind of fit. -

Being an American, I am not too familiar with what RHD vehicles are out there. Is there a general list somewhere of what is available in RHD? Of course I have seen the Land Cruiser VX 80, but I figure that may be an obvious choice. Thanks. -
This looks really nice. I love the body color. I do have one question. Maybe it is just something that I don't know about. I was wondering why the Top Secret decal on the right side is backwards.

Looks great. I would just hate to be the one trying to change those rear tires in a hurry.

I would love to have one of the older boxy models. For now I will have to settle for the Tamiya Grand Cherokee.

I wasn't aware until I was reading his obituary that he starred in the sequel to his classic movie 'The Killer Shrews'. The sequel came out in 2010 and now I have to track it down.

Henry J Twin Turbo - Didn't see that coming..........

You said that you are a very slow builder. I think that I have figured out why. You are too busy with your real job carving statues and stuff out of grains of rice. Incredible detail. -
Love the black paint. It shows that not every paint job has to be super shiny.

Cannonball Run 2015 " The Sleeperball"
KeithJackson replied to wagonmaster's topic in Community Builds
I have rethought how I am going to be modifying my Ecto-1A while waiting to get my parts all together. I had originally planned for a hearse conversion, but my wife thought that was kind of creepy. Instead I will be turning it into a '70s style family wagon on steroids. Think Ghostbusters meets National Lampoon's Vacation meets Cannonball Run. I am going to go with the green paint and LOTS of woodgrain paneling. Also, instead of removing all the mounting stuff on top of the car, that will be used as the basis for a luggage rack. -
I meant absolutely no disrespect with my comment. The workmanship on this car is incredible, much better than any glue bomb that I have ever completed.

Chevy Nova "Beverly Hills Cop" Revell 1/25
KeithJackson replied to TROOPERFRANCO's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I hope that my comment about the interior being too nice was not taken as a negative comment. It definitely was not intended in that manner. I guess I need to start using emoticons more. -
Being a newb I don't like questioning things. I noticed that it looks like the frame is a little twisted with the left front wheel not touching the ground. I am going to assume that it is due to all the torque the frame has undergone during those high power launches.

I am going to guess that this doesn't even need a drive shaft. Reminds me of Rick Dobbertin's Pontiac J2000 from the mid '80s. The rear end was narrowed so much that it was said that the axles could fit in a shoe box. I was surprised to find that they did make a 1/25th model of it.

Looks good. Glad to see that I am not the only one who has worked on a model while on vacation. Some of my wife's friends about died when they found out that I had bought, and worked on, a model during my honeymoon.

KeithJackson replied to TROOPERFRANCO's topic in WIP: Model Cars
This all looks super. The only quibble that I might have would be that the interior looks too nice. I don't remember what it looked like in the movie, but I am sure that it kind of matched the outside in condition. -
Cannonball Run 2015 " The Sleeperball"
KeithJackson replied to wagonmaster's topic in Community Builds
Thanks for the welcome. It's good that I am early then since I have already hit my first decent roadblock. I had traced out the chassis for the Enzo and the Ecto to see how well they would work together and I was surprised how similar they were except for the length. Then I realized this morning that I had been looking at the Enzo tracing backwards. I think that I can still make it work. Just more cutting and filling. -

I am jumping in really late, but my attempt will involve converting this odd looking car: Into a sleeper. I plan on doing the work to convert it into a nondescript hearse. I will be using the suspension from an Enzo Ferrari to improve the handling. Of course you need something decent to move that much weight around so I will either be using the Enzo engine or going overkill with an Allison V-12. I am just waiting for the V-12 to arrive to see which one will work out better. Decisions on the interior will come after I figure out which engine I am going with. -
Styrene storage, if anyone can use this
KeithJackson replied to Superpeterbilt's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Does storing strip stock vertically, especially thin stuff, cause any trouble with it bending under its own weight?
