  1. Well I stripped the bodies and picked the straightest one and got it in primer. Picked out the paint for a 70s two-tone, gonna do a little weathering on the top. Going more for endurance than drag race, picked up a petty nascar for the heavy duty radiator, trans and rear end coolers as well as the rear end. Chassis is pretty simple, I'll have to scratch build the steering and braking bits, maybe add air bags to compensate for the additional gas tank (need to do the math on weight/gallons to see what is realistic, sort of). For the stealth factor I'm going for an old college dept van, something that you could explain away the speeding as being a storm chaser or following a radioactive cloud. And as a bonus Yates tribute 'Yates College', the Latin is sea to shining sea and one red cannon ball for Red Ball Garage...
  2. Wow, great detailing and clean design. Reminds me of all the outlandish show cars back in the 70's.
  3. Unfortunately my old eyes can't read this font, but from what I gather we're talking about glue booms yes or no. I'm just getting back into the hobby after many years and want to build some of the kits I glue bombed myself back in the 70's and although some nice people on eBay would be happy to sell me an old kit for $350, I'm much happier getting a couple of built models for lunch money and working from there. (Even though their not NM VHTF NOS or whatever other letters add up the $$$). From what I gather from all the different answers its just like restoring an old car rather than buy a new one, it's just in some people's nature..
  4. Really sharp build, probably fun to build with friends for a good cause, best of luck with your auction.
  5. I also use the glass stains, just picked up a frosted clear to test out on chrome headlights. Will post pictures if it works..
  6. Really nice build. Can't think of anything I would have done different, paint, wheels, interior all perfect choices.
  7. Unusual subject, really nice work. Thanks for sharing it.
  8. Thanks for the welcome, I'll try to avoid any explosions, but no guarantees the team will play fair. F.
  9. I have been away from building for 10+ years and recently started lurking around the forum. After reading through the aussieball topic and this one I figured now is as good a time as any to start building again. So if you don't mind I'd like to enter the game with a classic Yates vehicle - a dodge van. I've got a couple glue bombs to work with, don't think I'm going to go with the classic ambulance but probably something that would go unnoticed and give it a Yates tribute. Thanks, Fred.
  10. Beautiful and clean build, Manuel. I'd like to offer one small tip if I may, a thin strip of black crepe tape (I use an old roll of Chartpac 3pt tape) across the top of the door and inside edge of the vent window frame to represent the window weatherstripping would be an extra little touch to an already superb job. Again excellent work, I really enjoy your posts.
