Hey all <img src="http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> I had collected parts for this build about 4 years ago, and have been dying to get this out and get it started. This is one of my all time favorite cars from the early 50's. This is an exquisit Danbury Mint die-cast that just oozes with clever little details all over it, and was extremely well made. It was somewhat painful to tear it apart, but I think worth it in the long run. A lot of the chrome trim will remain, but will have a custom interior, nice new paint, and a great set of wheels/tires. This will be fun. I'd love to own one of these <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> . I have another project in front of this, that I need to finish, but have several weeks before I start on finishing it, so we'll see how far I get on this one, and if the sun stays out like they say it might - well, you guys may not hear from me 'till fall <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> . Probably won't post much on it. As you can see in the pic's, it's been dis-assembled, and the front area where the bumper brackets go through the body, the "HALO" around those openings have been ground away and filled in with EVERCOAT RAGE, a polyester body filler, used by "Real" body men on real steel bodies. IMAGINE THAT ??? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> . The red filler is BONDO Glazing Putty.

Thanks everyone . I like taking risks on my stlyes of building and never try to be a pleaser or fall into the trap of building what seems popular at the time. I gues I march to the beat of my own drum , most of the time, so to speak. I didn't think this would be a very popular color choice, at the time I chose it, but it's always about what I would like to try, and pushing the 'envelope" , to see the results. The build for me came out very crisp and contemporary. I'm happy with the color theme throught the build, with the red, black and silver being used as contrast against the green, along with the "Machined", razor - edge look of the interior, and the matching choices of the engine compartment and the undercarriage, and the die-cast emblems and chrome trim, used to enhance the retro, and the ultra-classic elegance of a very recognizeable AUTO ICON. The changes were many, but hopefully some subtle enough to get a second look, or be un-recognizeable, as that's always fun. Here's the last pic here on the bench.

Great job Looks like "SANFORD AND SON" - except for the "NEW" wheels and tires. Boy does that statement date me

Crummy Bare Metal Foil
E St. Kruiser50 replied to Bernard Kron's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Hi Bernard I use MICRO METAL FOIL ADHESIVE by MICROSCALE. Works great, especially for around windows. Get it at your LHS - dave -
Car is nearly finished. The finished interior, exhaust, and chassis have been installed. Last of the suspension pieces need to be installed. Under hood still needs final pieces. The wheels will be next, and the last of the bodies chrome trim pieces still need to be added to be done. I'll add more pic's before it goes "Under Glass". Here's a pic of the "Hood Chrome Trim".

Got a couple of real nice die-cast '55's, that I'm using the emblems and some trim from, for more realism. QUALITY DIE CAST STUFF CAN BE KILLER . Again, I like to stylize a classic style by making it look more contemporary, but keeping it very recognizeable. The emblems and trim are so retro/Art deco, that smoothing the car is a style from the past, and to me, these beautiful emblems that are simple works of art on their own, ans I believe should be recognized for what they are, and used to give the look "MORE CLASS". Anyhow, that's my take on it, and I will continue to pursue that look. BARE METAL FOILDid the front fender spears and the V8 emblems under the tail-lights, to continue the theme.

Hey Raul Probably another week or so, as I'm in a "DODDLING MOOD" - NO HURRY. At this point it's fun for me to take my time and not mess up anything. Now it's just assembly time, and a little fitting and adjusting, as all the hard part is done . BESIDES, THE SUN WILL BE OUT STARTING TOMORROW, SO I'LL BE OFF TO PLAY OUTSIDE FOR A FEW DAY'S - EEEHAH

Mocked up for pic's. Havin' fun Super-detailing the interior. Got the dash done with all it's seperate knobs, and being sp;it apart, painted and re-assembled. Took a few days off for other fun stuff, but ready now to start finishin' this ol' gal. Last major part is stretchin' the exhaust, and some re-routing for the muffler's. Here's some pic's.
