Money for Models???
E St. Kruiser50 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Me personally, I wouldnt be interested in competing for money. In my mind it changes the whole point and purpose of a contest, and makes it more "Professional" and "CUT-THROAT" in my way of thinking and my experiences in contests for over 50 years. I go to contests to look at other peoples cool models, be with my buddies, joke around, tell lies, make new friends, go out and eat as often as possible , talk about plastic, buy a new model or two if there is a swap meet, and maybe if I'm lucky enough, win some kind of award. IN SHORT - I'M THERE MAINLY FOR THE SOCIAL FUN AND RELAXATION, and it works for me. -
I posted this for you Clay because last I heard you got your mag, but hadn't read it yet - This build was never posted here in "Under Glass", after it was finished, , so I choose pic's that hopefully aren't in the article, for a little varity.

Model Wax "The Final Detail"
E St. Kruiser50 replied to jjsipes's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Looks like there's lot's of opinions here, so I guess I'll add my 2cents worth for whatever it's worth Not an expert anymore than anyone else here, so I'll just share with you what I do and what products I use, and let you decide. These are what I use in the pic below. Novus Plastic Polish #2, from the plastic finishing industry is what I use first to smooth everything out. Then I use Finessette II Finishing material from the auto paint industry, which is finer, and adds more luster and smoothness. REMEMBER - NEITHER OF THESE IS A WAX AND HAVE NO WAX IN THEM - MERELY FOR POLISHING. THE THIRD PRODUCT IS A WAX - THE Meguiar's Show Glaze, used on 1 to 1 show cars, different than Bill Geary uses, but in the same family, is definitly an extremely good wax. A good quality wax is important, because wax seals the paint surface and brings out it's brillance. Again though, it's about your personal choice and what works for you, not always about using what anyone of us say, including me. Good luck on your choices - dave Here's a car I finished recently using this system. -
And you really want all of us to believe that....... .

Thank goodnes for friends. I just got one of two HOLY GRAILS today, that I've wanted for years. I was talking to a friend who has a pretty extensive collection, and I was telling him what I was looking for, and he had them both, including a few others OOP, and was willing to sell them to me - LUCKY GUY . I also got the '34 from him, and then I stopped at my LHS and got the new AMT Camaro. I haven't opened it yet, but it looks pretty cool. Here's the HOLY GRAIL. This is a super rare model of a super rare car. Besides everything else, I love super-cars and exotics. This car is both, wrapped into one. It's a 1955 Mercedes SLR 300 Uhlenhaut Coupe'. The kit was made by Revell of Germany. It's an absolutely stunningly beautiful kit. The detailing is exsquisite! The real car was a cross-breed between the 300 SL Coupe' and the SLR roadster race car. Ulenhaut worked at Mercedes and had two of these street versions built. Because of the provenance and the rarity, these are multi-million dollar cars now. This will be a jem to build.

Thanks Manuel That's the cool thing about model car building. You can let your imagination go wherever you want and create just about anything for just a few $$$$ - PRETTY COOL to me.

Tips for center finding.......
E St. Kruiser50 replied to abedooley's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I have one I use peridically, that's a several piece combination set. There's a 12" straight edge, a large and small square, and a V-shape piece that the rule slides through the center, for finding the center of round objects. It's a machinist tool. Assemble the two pieces, put your round piece in - scribe, rotate 90 degree's and scribe again to form an "X" and a "Center". Very simple, but may be confusing without a pic. You can buy a cheap set at HARBOUR FREIGHT for under $10.00 and they work good. I'll post a pic a little later, if someone doesn't do it in the meantime. dave -
<img src="http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> I get in these moods once in a great while where I need to create "Stuff", so I'm sorta on a building "Rampage" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />. Got at least two more to do, then maybe "The Need" or the "Frenzy" will calm down - I love it when I get like this. Another one of those projects been sittin' for a while, including pic's in the box, so after about 4 hours, we got 'er pretty well "Roughed Out". This'll be a stock bodied street rod with finished fenders, bumpers, a spare tire, and running board's, and no tilt front clip. Maybe a Duplicolor Flecks Tangerine color to fini
