  2. There have been several people throughout the 38 years of the model show that have always worked together to make it happen, and will continue to keep it alive and well . Four years ago the contest was re-named, to PORTLAND CLASSIC MODEL CAR CONTEST. It has been re-named again in honor of Bob Paeth, who is the founding "Father" of the club, along with Bob Robinson and Ron Martinolich - the current President of the club. The new name of the event is the BOB PAETH PORTLAND CLASSIC MODEL CAR CONTEST.
  3. Thank you Gonna try to get a little more done on these two this week. All the best - dave
  4. Thanks George Yeah, it was a little tricky figurin' it all out. Actually there was no widening of the grill/bumper piece, or the '69 front clip. It's all stock. I figured out a 'VEWY SEECWATIVE' (Elmer Fudd) way to make it work . The Tricky Treehugger
  5. Hey guy's Bad New's - Portland Rod & Custom show doesn't exist anymore I'm told, as of this year. Maybe Seattle 's show is gone too The partners I'm told are in a legal battle. Hope it isn't true, but I got the info at our last SABA model car club meeting here in Portland, and it was from a pretty reliable member of our club.
  6. WOW All of these are just beautiful - but oh my gosh - THAT MERC - I love it.
  7. Well Raul - Whatta ya gonna do to top this? What an amazing project. Can't wait to see everything assembled together. Hey Gregg, take lotsa pictures at the NNL West. We want to see this in the magazine and on the front cover Great job Raul - dave
  8. O.K. Everybody - YOU GOTTA CHECK OUT THE YOU TUBE LINK that Clay posted here. WAY,WAY FUNNY Thanks Clay - I'm still laughin' - dave
  9. Great idea. Boy, would I like to see that happen . That would be so cooooool!! Pretty cool also seeing all these threads on everyone's builds. I missed some stuff, so nice to get a second chance. Everyboy's stuff here really ROCKS. All the best guy's - dave
  10. Well, after looking at all the "Jillions" of "Amazing" 2008 builds here, I thought - well why not , I'll jump in here and share some of this years fun also. Fun to look back, and got some cool stuff for the next few years also. Are we having fun here or what?? "66 No-va-Mad Faux Ferrari (New Cobra ) 1930 Packard Street Rod Well, almost done 1934 chopped C-400 convertible sedan Shortend and "Vetted", '59 Chevy Sport Roadster. This was great. Lotsa scratch-building. "The Bird, the bird, the Bird Is the Word" Member that song?? . I love this build. ....and a few things yet to finish - someday.
  11. Yeah, your right. A little "Post Holiday Grinchy"
  12. Been workin' on both old and new projects. Nice way to start off the new year. Holidays were great. Started "Eyeballin'" this build a few days ago. I did this sort of thing off and on during my career and it was always fun, kinda that natural side of me, so this was a challange that I enjoyed. I decided to start with the front, as this seemed to be the part that would require the most "Creativity" . Anyway, I cut the front off the '69 and started fitting and drawing on the '05, to get the look I wanted. The '69 is a much narrower car, so it took some "Artistc Tweeking" to get things to "Blend", so to speak. As you can see in the pics, everything went together fine after some "Creative massaging" .
  13. Well, here's some updated pics of the Cabriolet, with some of the details drawn on the roof. There'll be a lot of detail added to the "Vert" top. A molding will go all the way around the perimiter that'll be painted a darker shade, with metal snaps added. The rear window get's glass with a chrome molding pirated from a diecast, and there will be "Opera Bars" over each large rear side area. I'll mold in dips and high spot's in the roof where the bows would be and there'll be some "Wrinkles" added in the "Cloth" to add realism. Finally, there'll be two full length features molded in the roof and down the back like you may be able to see in the pic of the convertible sedan pictured here. Nearly all "Vert" tops have this feature as a way to construct the top. Scratch built several of these. That's it for now - dave You can't see it in the pics, but on real Cabriolet there is a piece of metal that forms a roof frame up the back and over the top of the door for the top to connect to. That's on this model and the top has been molded to fit over it , and that also acts as a locator to lock the top in position on the body.
  14. Bob - you're a bad boy . Didn't think of that 'till I read your post. It is funny though. I got a little giggle out of it. Now go climb outta the gutter and get back to your modeling - dave
  15. Hey Mark - I just ran across this. Didn't know there were problems. Sorry to hear it, and even sorrier that your leaving . You and I seem to be very similar in nature. We've both posted some pretty thought provoking threads, and have a very sensitive side to our personality. Taking time out can be good for the soul. I just came back to one of the clubs I belong too, that I took a one year hiatus from. It was good for my attitude. Not saying your's has a problem. There are several people in my building world that don't like my stuff or style and some here on this forum too. Bob Paeth taught me to let their problems be theirs, and let all the "######" roll of my back. It's hard to learn, but it works. I learned that the worst thing I could do was to take things personal. I've learned to laugh a lot more, enjoy life more too by enjoying more of the simple thing of life, like a great banana split or a walk in the park holdin hands with your best gal. Hope you won't be gone too long, as you'll be missed my friend. All the best my friend God Bless You - dave
  16. Hey George - How's my buddy ?? I know, I just can't seem to help myself. It's the fun factor, ya know?? Between my modeling and the rest of my life, no time to get bored. My oldest boys birthday is Sunday the 4th, so we'll be going out for a nice steak dinner, and I got him a 20.4 Volt cordless drill motor. Hang that baby up when he's usin' it, and it'll give him a "RIDE" - EEHAH Hey George, great to hear from you again, and back at ya wit da HAPPY NEW YEAR - dave
  17. These are such cooool Kits. Been way too scarce and too spendy over the years for my "Cheapy Attitude" - LOL Got a few other of the Dave Deal series kits too. I love the art work on the boxes. Can't wait to get it. Got it on eBay and it's being shipped today priority, so first part of next week. Got a couple of the "Stogie" kits too at my LHS. Waitin now for the 'Dragon Wagon" , the T.J. taxi, Rommel's Rod, the Munster kits, and a few othe choice kits being released later this year. Got my money set aside - EEEHAH Are we havin' fun here or what??
  18. Hey Raul - Happy New Year Yeah, 34's are one of my fav's too, but just can't stay away from all the other "coool stuff". Just too much fun. Talk to ya again soon. All the best for the New Year and God Bless - dave
  19. Just like you and most of the guy's here, I got plenty of fun project to keep "My Juices Flowin" for this new year. Got a couple "Under the Radar" projects goin' too. Always fun to have a few "Surprises" in the 'ol bag. Anthony, have a great new year my friend - dave
  20. Well look at that - And I thought I was being original . Once again - twisted minds think alike I like the "Red Lines" and the "427 Stinger hood" Harry. Don't know if I can get those "Red Lines"on 24 inchers though - LOL More putty and sanding today - but no hurry, this is for fun. I'll do some playing on the 34's too. Thanks for the art work and idea's Harry. Beautiful work as usual. Glad you're part of us - dave
  21. Hi Peter As you probably figured out by now, my interest in cars is pretty diverse - even the classics from the 20's and 30's. Got quite a few "older starts" nearly done, so It'll be fun to finish those. Yeah, the "Dozen or so builds" at a time really works for me too, as I have different "Moods" I get into, so a large choice keeps my interest and passions alive and flowing. Enjoy your day my friend - dave
  22. This will be a good year for sure Got several new things to start and some other cool projects to finish this next few month's. There are a wide variety of makes and styles and era's of car's that I enjoy. This Corvette project has been smoldering for several years in my head, so today as I celebrate the new year, watching a few rented movies, and probably eat WAAAY TOO MUCH , I will be hacking and chopping and fitting. Corvette has evolved over the years into a smoother, sleeker, more high-tech design. Me, I'm sort of a retro muscle era kinda guy, that like's the bulging "Power" hoods, outside racing exhaust, and "Real Bumpers" , you know, - the chrome one's, and a grill. So starting today, I'm going to try to blend a span of 40 years, the '68 was the first of this design, to get a more powerful, less sophisticated look. The "Power Bulge" hood, and outside exhaust will be a big part of that. To keep it up to date there'll be HOK candy gold Paint, and the window/roof area will be all black, including black tinted windows, maybe some carbon fiber on the hood, and some 24 inchers and "Rubber bands" to help keep the "Blend" balanced. We'll see. Be fun to see if this works. Have a great day celebrating - dave
  23. Happy New year all Well, I haven't posted anything for a while, but been have'n fun. Here's two mini projects that I'll be having fun with for the next few weeks or so. One is a rare Close Couple Coupe, with the wires and whites, it's one of a kind trunk and lengthened roof through the lengthened rear window, and the other with mags, is a phantom Cabriolet. Both will have a full leather interior. Stay safe for '09 - dave Both will be built as stock except for the wheels/tires.
  24. Hey Peter This is very nice. '50 Merc's and '34 Fords of any style are both my fav's. Got several 34's in the works. Lot's a color and spare tires. Love spare's and "Connie Kits". Thanks for posting this little jewel - dave
  25. Hi all Well, I've been following this thread for a while, and even though it's a horse that has been beatin' to death several times here already since it was first posted, and you guys continue to bludgeon it's poor lifeless little corpse, for me this is the best post in this thread, and I agree with this last quoted statement. I won't comment on the content or topic of this thread, but I will respond to the attitude's of many of the poster's, as Gary has so respectfully, yet pointedly done here. KUDO"S! Haven't posted much here in the last few week's 'cause I 've been havin' too much fun building and enjoying the holidays ( I have a few pounds to lose now ). Gary, as you know, society and our culture has changed a lot over the years, and the idea of gratitude and appreciation has become nearly obsolete. I see nothing wrong with expressing opinions, because as we all know, that is how great changes are made, but I personally think that if you really want the manufacturers to listen and make some of the changes commented on here, then our appreciation for the positive side of there efforts and intentions should be expressed here also. I've been building nearly 60 years now, 2010, and have won several nice awards and a bit of noteriety from back in the late 50's and early 60's starting with the Winternationals in the L.A. area, and had several models in car mags, including ROD & CUSTOM, and even a car on the cover once - pretty cool - and have done pretty well at the GSL the last two events, and am still an avvid healthy builder, still trying to get better at this hobby I love, just like the rest of you. I just consider myself one of the guy's, instead of one of THE GUY'S. You know what I mean) LOL I'm really not trying to brag here though, even if it's kinda fun - the point I'm trying to make, and beat a different dead horse to death here , is that instead of being labeled as a bunch of "INGRATES" and "WHINNER"S by the manufacturers, why not try to share "positive criticism" here, and tell the kit maker's the thing's we like and appreciate, as well as the changes we'd like to see. To me, what I've seen over the years, is that these kind of posts are a result of changing values and attitudes in our culture over the last 5 or 6 DECADES. In some circle's the approach to this hobby has become way too serious and the arrogance, and feelings of personal importance, way too extreme-but laughable. You know-THE SELF-PROCLAIMED GRAND PUBA TYPES , who are the expert's of plastic and "Leaders and Proclaimers" of the style and future of this hobby, and should be listened too . Why do so many people want to be important and recognized in an obscure plastic hobby? If I wanted to feel important or be a wanna-be, I think I'd find something of real wordly value that people have heard of. Plastic?? For me, just for fun !! Pretty funny, as this is just plastic, and an unknown hobby to most of the world. We're right down at the bottom with hand making fly's for fishing lures. No insult intended for the guy's who love to do that, I just think we need to keep it "REAL" about who we are as a hobby, and who really cares. If this hobby disappeared tomorrow, not to mention the people in it, the rest of the world wouldn't even notice. So whatta ya say guy's. Let's have more fun here. I've already wasted too much precious building time posting these thought's. Post more pics and less "Literature" and "Attitude , because after all is said and done - IS THERE REALLY ANYONE OUT THERE IMPORTANT WHO CARES ?? NO !! See ya next year. I'm buildin some really fun stuff - dave
