  1. Speaking of Altereds , here's some Fuel cars!
  2. I've looked at several dozen pics of altereds and am not finding suspended rear ends. Same for 70's FC's. Sorry! Here's a couple pics of modern coil over setups for Pro Street and a sand dragster. The thing is, fuel altereds and funny cars are high horsepower cars that hook up much better with solid mount rears, the big low pressure slicks also act as suspension of sorts. First modern solid mount, then coil overs. They are 4 links.
  3. Thanks! Call me Gary. Glad to help a fellow HAMB'er or modeler anytime!
  4. If you want a suspended rear I'd go with coil over shocks ala Logghe funny car style. Not many FA's used any suspension, but i'd do that if you want a late 60's look. For mid 60's semi elliptical leaf springs might work. Almost all fuel altereds used a solid rear though. Same with funny cars. I can't think of any 70's FC's with a suspended rear, and if it was , I'm sure it would be coil overs. What did you have in mind?
  5. Altereds use solid mount rears. I posted several pics of how these are mounted. They are bolted onto a bracket welded to the frame ( see pics). They vary according to what the builder wants or likes. Fire bottles are deployed by the driver by pushing or pulling on a lever. Look at the Winged Express pics, the bottle is on the roll bar. the lever is the orange T handle. The spray is directed by a line and nozzle to the driver, the motor or both. Lots of FC's use two bottle mounted on the chassis, one for the motor, one for the driver. Look at the FC chassis pic above. The fire bottle is mounted right by the front tire on the outside of the chassis. MOST 70's cars mounted the bottle(s) on the chassis close to the driver. There is probably one on the other side as well, most modern cars use two.
  6. Here's some generic fuel systems from late 60's cars. Not really any difference between funny cars and dragsters. The main changes into the 70's were: bigger fuel pumps, use of steel fuel lines and more of them. By more of them I mean injectors started in the early 60's with two lines, then four, then eight. About 1966 splitting the fuel by introducing intake manifold lines, one per cylinder with ( usually ) eight on the injector hat. More fuel, more power! This is called "over" and "under". There is no one setup, though all are very similar. 70's were pretty much the same. I included another solid mount rear end pic from a dragster that more clearly shows the mounting.
  7. Again, note solid mount at top left
  8. Note solid mount rear axle at upper left.

  10. Jeez, my scans won't post!! The first one did. Anyway, here's some shots I took of the Winged Express. The first one is not mine.
  11. Ok guys, here's a start. First, COOL Bantam Michael! In a nutshell, both Fotki and Photobucket are ripping me off! I had free accounts, but now they "changed" the rules and want me to pay! I'm laid off and poverty stricken, so I need to copy about 7,000 pics from those sites to one of my computers! BUT, I realized these magazine scans from the Feb '65 issue of Popular Hot Rodding better illustrate your altered questions ( I hope). Solid mount rear ends are NOT directly welded to the chassis, there Are flanges ( one on each side ) welded to the axle housings that bolt to steel brackets or plates that ARE welded to the chassis. These scans are of two altereds, the Cal Hydro Bantam and the Sterling Engineering T. Study the scans, I think you can see what I mean. I have also scanned the interior shots. As an aside, note the "steel cable" that runs under the engines. This was to prevent the engine from dropping if ir blew. Most "hot" 60's cars used these cables. I also have several pics of the current Winged Express, but it's a little more complex than the 60's version. Here goes! Hope this helps and makes sense!
  12. Sorry guys, reality has reared it's ugly head and I've been dealing with non model issues. I Will post some pics per your requests soon. I don't know how many Fiat pics I have, but I do have quite a few Winged Express pics, and I'll look for the FC details stuff. Sorry !!
  13. I guess I should check this more often! As for fuel altereds, yes I've got some. same with 70 FC;s. Please be more specific if you can. Tell me exactly what you want to see. IE; plumbing, ignition, pedals, tinwork, whatever. I'll see what I can find over the next few days.
  14. Once again, COOL!!!! A different approach from the 40 Willys we always see. I'm a MoPar fan and I like "different" stuff. Keep us posted!
  15. Wow! That is most impressive! It sure would be cool to see this tech applied to 1/25th cars! The possibilities are astounding. thanks for posting this.
  16. Very cool roadsters! Red Greth must have made way more of those scoops than we thought, there were several cars running them. A distinctive design for sure!
  17. Nice! Actually, there are more than people think, check out The Greek!
  18. Yes, I have a folder of Ol' Noisy. If Fotki or Photobucket ever will upload anything again, I'll post , The original or the restored or the cloned?
  19. Hmm. I've got some Ohio George, old pics, not mine. No pro stocks. Not my thing.
  20. Yes, my pics are mostly on Photobucket until I can download them all onto a better site. I think I'll do a new post in the pictures section of the forum, maybe later today or Monday. THANKS for the compliment.
  21. Outstanding replica! Very impressive model and great craftsmanship.
  22. My idea of what Pro Mod should be. Stock looking body, this is my favorite current race car of any class! The Renteria Brothers run this Valiant without chopping it up, to 5.50's at 250 +! One BITCHIN' race car! Nostalgia funny cars! THAT LOOK LIKE CARS!!! Motor up front where it should be!
  23. Forces cars don't look like Mustangs or Camaros. Jelly beans. Aerodynamic blobs. So called "nostalgia " car actually look like they should. Modern FC's suck, the don't even have a vague resemblance to cars. You can't tell what they are supposed to be unless it's painted on the side! OOOPS! I mean vinyl stickers. AND both T/F and FC are ugly billboards, devoid of soul and character. I miss the days when a racer didn't NEED to be a corporate stooge! Jungle Jim would puke! I'm 62 years old, drag racing will NEVER be very popular on TV. For 50 years the NHRA has tried it, but it just doesn't translate well. Drag racing has painted itself into a corner with the "big show". I don't think some of you understand how important insurance is for example. REAL racing doesn't need to be so expensive and doesn't need the BS manufactured carnival type phoney drama. If you weren't around in the 60's-70's, you just won't ever get how much better it was then.
