I think the AMT has a tow bar. The Revell Parts Pack drag cars also had them, in much thinner, more scale form. It would be a fairly easy build. Don't forget to disconnect the drive shaft from the car being flat towed!

Nice paint work, I really wish I had better painting skills. Keep going!

Once again, VERY NICE WORK on an under rated subject! COOL!

Another work in progress. A 36 roadster with all the dirty work of filling and fitting done! Jeeez, isn't it about time for a NEW 36 Ford, without the cheesy roadster / coupe deal? Revell? 1/25th please! Here it is! -

Got a new set of racing seats today Chuck is casting from various FC and dragster kits, INCLUDING the Dragmaster Mooneyes seats! Now I can build all those chassis kits i have. Also included are seats from the Revell Austin Healy, a popular early choice for gassers and altereds. They were cheap and available in junkyards! Also on the horizon ( by end of summer are the Greer, Black & Prudhomme world beating dragster, to fit the Fuller chassis from the Tony Nancy kits. Other cool drag stuff are is the Burkholter Bros. first AA/FA, (the Copper Bomb), Lakey's Speet Shop Nash Metroploitan, reverse halibrand Drag wheels and the Sox & Martin 66 Cuda Funny car! MORE TO COME!! These are works in progress, not the final product. YOU CAN HELP, e mail Chuck at Altered States and let him know you are interested! Resin casters work hard mastering new stuff with little promise of making much money! Drop Chuck a good word, his stuff is THE BEST OUT THERE! He has a TON of stuff not on his web site, ASK FOR SPECIFICS! http://www.alteredstatesmodels.com/ What do I get out of this? Same as you!, COOL VINTAGE and accurate , HIGH QUALITY DRAG PARTS -
Kenneth Howard A.K.A. Von Dutch
GaryR replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Howard was who he was and did some great striping. He was however, an erratic, often hostile and paranoid person, as well as a vehement racist. He drank excessively and was very difficult, even in his striping. The deal was, you gave him your part or car for striping, he did whatever he wanted. You paid him anyway, even if you hated it! LOL His work was actually not so great technically, including his knives and metalworking. Don' believe it or think I'm some goody two shoes? Think I'm being PC? Look him up. The HAMB has some good threads, stuff from those who actually knew him. The internet is full of stories of Von Dutch. A devil and bad guy? Not really. But a Saint and a not a hero. Can't excuse his crude racism. An iconic hot rod guy and striper? Maybe. -
I've been talking to Chuck at Altered States, he has some new very cool and unique vintage drag resin stuff coming out! Besides that, we are discussing some other new products. This isn't an ad, it's that Altered States and Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland are two of the best, if not THE BEST resin casters out there. Chuck also is a fabricator and talented scratch builder! We may have some alternative bodies for the Double Dragster and the slew of FED's, Ivo, Young American, etc)released from AMT's vaults by summer. Stay tuned

From your link "This closeup illustrates the revised spark plug location and another issue created by the chain drive. Since the chain drives both cams in the same direction, on one bank the cam rotates toward the intake follower, and away from the follower on the opposite bank. This in turn necessitated a unique camshaft for each bank, one a mirror of the other, so the opening and closing ramps would be properly located." Can you provide ANY pics of bottom plugs on a race car? Any pics other than the prototypes?
-
Yes, the pre production prototype engine. not one that ever powered a drag car. Please, the exception, NOT the rule> What TWO were made> From the article you linked. " Ford engineers took great pains to design a perfectly symmetrical hemispherical combustion chamber with an optimized spark plug location, only to discover that the spark plug didn’t really care. The plugs were then relocated at the top of the chamber for ease of access." That's the way EVERY Cammer in a race car was, not the bottom!
-
No SOHC had plugs on the bottom. The SOHC was a 427 FE block with overhead cam heads added on. Not DUAL overheads. Here's the Prudhomme/ Baney 1967 Top Fuel car. I personally think the AMT is best ( or can be made to be), followed by the JoHan. The Revell version is terrible, not even close. Why they stuck it in so many "drag" kits is beyond me. Obviously for economic reasons, not accuracy. I have plenty of SOHC pics, plus every other drag motor, the Hemi's and the SBC and the Rat.

Nice to see it built as a stocker. A finicky kit, but you tamed it! Looks good.
