Terrible Kits You Love!
GaryR replied to Chuck Most's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm a drag car guy, I love the old AMT funny cars, total lack of detail, odd engineering, you name it! But I really like them, was crazy for them in 1967 when they came out, still love them! I can detail them if I want, or just enjoy the. I dig the AMT Willys pickup as well, bad front end, so what!? It's so fast you can't see it anyhow! -

OUTSTANDING! Now THAT is a great bit of modeling, very, VERY NICE WORK! WOW! Can you tell I like it?
-
That was the Blueprinter deal. I got the AWB Mustang, parts parks, trailers, stuff that WASN'T re issues or offered until years later/ All at a reasonable cost. It was like having a private Round2!

AMAZING!!! Fantastic job! I'm speechless!

Revell Thunderbolt SS question.
GaryR replied to Brutalform's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I LIKE the finish! The usual model chrome is too bright and plastic looking for me. I think it looks way better toned down. Same with bare ,etal/ 60's race cars were not show car pretty, restorations and re creations are much too glossy and perfect. These cars were WARHORSES, racing sometimes three times a week, open towed in all weather, they had war wounds. Depends on the look you want. You have the Model King Issue1 -
How are these castings quality wise> I've heard they arec pretty thick, though the pics don't look too bad.
-
The car in the pic is a 65! But it IS a beautiful car!

As an MoPar guy from wayback who owned a 66 Cuda, THUMBS UP!!! My Cuda had a 273 though! Love those transition era funny cars!
-
It's COOL you put a six in it! Great lower class gas racer! Nice !
-
The cover car for the Blars straight axle feature is Tobasco (I cannot remember the owners name), a very well known SoCal NHRA legal gasser. I'm pretty sure that subframe WAS legal. Don't jack up the front though, NOBODY believes it, but the NHRA rule books ALL say that gas class cars must be LEVEL! Good luck on your build!

Thanks for the info! I need to Email Chuck at Altered States! Again, cool car, nice build!

NICE BUILD! I LOVE THOSE OLD BOATS! Be they Chevy, Ford, Buick, Chrysler or Pontiac, they are fantastic cruisers the likes of which we will never see again. Again, nice build, great lookin Pontiac!

Shout out for SPEED CITY RESIN!
GaryR replied to GaryR's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
On the fence how to build this Corvair, leaning towards a blown car like the Fiberglass Trends car pictured here. Most funny cars were injected in 66 though, Speed City also sells the ONLY correct injection manifold for big block Chevy's. The AMT part isn't even close! I loaded up on those. My favorite BBC is the one from the original MPC 67-68 Camaro, complete with the TurboHydro 350.PERFECT for a funny car! Wish somebody would cast it! In case you are wondering, I have zero to do with Speed City, just an enthusiastic customer. I like casters that GET IT and produce accurate drag parts! As others stated Altered States is also EXCELLENT, Chuck really knows his stuff! Same with Competition Resins! I'll likely go with a blown engine. What do you think? I realize Dellings car had a small block! I'm an OLD COOT! I remember 1966 ( I was 13 ) funny car racing was exciting! You never knew what would happen, ET's dropped almost weekly, speeds went up the same! Innovation and experimentation was rampant. ALL makes were racing! IT WAS COOL!!! -

These "transition era funny cars are my favorite. The 65-67 cars before the all became the same flip tops. They still had stock steel bodies then, opening doors etc! Got the Speed City 66 Valiant too, the hairy Canary is on my list, a car I actually saw race back in 68!!! -
Revell 30 Model A Ford Production Halted?
GaryR replied to Daddyfink's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Please. Fact is, NONE of us know ANYTHING about this. I predict the kit will be back in a few months. Such drama. -
WOW! The old boat looks beautiful! A FANTASTIC JOB, great eye, great work!!!!!LOVE IT!!!
-
SPECTACULAR!!! Exactly which shorty body is it? I talked to Chuck about making one to fit this kit, he didn't think it would sell! I NEED TO KNOW!!!LOL A REALLY cool model!
-
Ordered, shipped and received a 66 Corvair funny car in less than ONE WEEK! Now, that's great service! Great casting too! Drag guys, give them a try!
-
Nice work! I have ownwd umpteen Bugs over the years, yours is the first one I've seen that didn't leak oil! GREAT job!

Least popular kits

I'd LOVE to see the Thomas Flyer come back! A good kit of a very cool car. -
WoooooHoooo! How About a '66 SUBURBAN !?!?!!!
GaryR replied to Danno's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Here's a pic of a re creation of one of Garlits push truck / tow vehicle. I know it's a GMC, but the 'burb is close and....maybe a GMC in the works? Either way, as a 60'd drag builder i need some of these! -
Just an idea for reissues
GaryR replied to GaryR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well God forbid we could have a good accurate body AND a desperate rear axle!! LOL Even the level of late 60's MPC would be nice. Yes, I KNOW it would cost something. I really don't get why somebody always points that out. Fact is, model cars are considered TOYS by the majority of serious modelers, because they are! I enjoy the reissues tremendously, that's WHY I would like to see them improved! I'm just a little bit more fussy than I was in 1964! -

"One that comes immediately to mind in the AMT '57 Ford kit. The body proportions look good to me, but I'd really like to have a chassis without the exhausts molded in. Save me from having to do a lot of work, or swapping a Revell chassis under it." YES! Classic or not, new chassis would be better! Yeah yeah, I know we can grind 'em off, use another chassis. THAT'S NOT MY POINT! LOL Aircraft and armor modelers get every version of every subject there is, even models of vehicles that never even existed! They get beautiful detail, fine molding and true scale. We get stuff from 1965. There's a place for everything, but Moebius seems to get it. Revell and Round2, not so much. I want MORE detail, not less. I'm not spending 30 dollars for a funky one piece chassis or molded in exhaust. I already HAVE all those old kits. Seems like a realistic way to upgrade those made for children kits! -
The JoHan is probably better, I didn't even mention it. My point is that the AMT kit isn't nearly as bad as some say ( in my opinion ). As opposed to people who only see them at shows and on the web.
