  1. John, you are obviously very excited to get this build underway. NEWS FLASH !!! So are we. I thought you were going to scratch the coach too. Glad you found a suitable foundation. The tires give a brief glimpse into the future of what it will look like with the rest of the accessories added. Love the frame and roll cage too. It's already among my Top 10 Fave Johnny Southside builds. I'll let you know as it rises in the standings.
  2. Thanks for trying to make it easy on me Chris, but from here on out it's all about what might impress a judge. If I fail, it won't be the first time I've tossed a body. It's all about the WOW Factor and the Gotcha' Factor.
  3. Thanx for checking in y'all. I started thinning the body in preparation of opening the doors and I think I'll hinge the roof too. The roof section will include the rear window. That means hinging the tailgate as well. Ooooooo, I wonder if I could gull-wing the doors since the cut off line for the roof is at the back of the doors? Hmmmmmmm????? After I opened up the rear fender wells a tad, I played with the engine set up and I think we have a winner.
  4. Excellent replica of one of my Faves.
  5. Nothing less than mind blowing Tim. Those look great. Now that the formalities have been completed, please read the pm I sent you before I burst a brain vein.
  6. Thanks for the encouraging words everyone. I started with the basics today. Grabbed some detail goodies and a pilot. Then I cleaned up the body. Also, as a teaser more for myself than anything else, after I cut the front clip off of the Olds chassis, I propped up the body to get a glimpse of the future. It's got potential. Yes, no? Sorry the pics are out of order. Can't wait until I can start using PhotoBucket again.
  7. John, I hope you appreciate the fact that I allowed Tim to sacrifice that space where I wanted a cappuccino maker. I never should have caved, but, it is his build mumble, mumble, grrrrr.........
  8. Alright kiddies, the hobby room is done and just in time to join Chris and John T in the wheelstander build. Chris started this, referring to it only as "The Twins." Surprise Chris. It's triplets. We know Chris is building the Jolly Rancher Stagecoach. He was hoping that John would do the twin-ish Jelly Belly Stagecoach. I think John has other ideas. Raise your hand if that comes as a surprise. The three of us attended the San Jose NNL West, The Desert Scale Classic in Phoenix and The GSL in Utah. So when I learned of this, I invited myself to join in on the modeling goodness. My build will have a couple of bells and whistles, but I'm going to keep it simple so that I can get back on the Charlie Allen build next. I was originally going to use the frame back half of the Hurst Hairy Olds, using the rear engine only. Unfortunately, this engine has the headers molded into the block / heads / oil pan and that isn't going to work for me. Now, because I'll need a different engine, I'll check to see if there is room for a pair of side by side blown HEMI's. The Emergency West wheelstander uses this set up, so I'll have to scratch a V-Drive for the drivetrain. I also plan on adding a tube front frame clip with scratched leaf springs and axle. The body is a Jimmy Flintstone 58 Chevy Nomad Sedan Delivery with the AMT 58 Impala sacrificing all of the prerequisite parts. Also the body will be hinged at the front for eyeball vision on the engines. Lastly, I'm going to need a paid volunteer from the audience to help me with some custom decals. Basically what I want to do is, using the NAPA logo theme, name it "NAPA NASTY NOMAD." PM me for details. I hope to start construction this weekend. I guess I need to buy another TWO MUCH dragster for the engines.
  9. WOO HOO !!! The hobby room is done to the point where I can start work again. Did I say WOO HOO !!! ? So here's the dealio. I'm TEMPORARILY setting aside the Charlie Allen build. I'll be breaking in the hobby room by joining John T and Chris on their wheelstander builds. I'll be doing the aforementioned Nomad wagon. See the new post for details. Here are the last pics of the hobby room. Just have the airbrush booth to build. Enjoy.
  10. I got a visual of you at the lathe knocking out all of those nut/bolt bits. That's determination. Doesn't WalMart sell CA remover? If not, try nail polish remover. I heard that on Two and a Half Men. Something about something stuck to something on Charlie by Rose.......... Hey, got the TV installed and did the main desk lighting today.
  11. Thank you my friend. Now that completion is near, I'm looking forward to getting back on the bench. I'm also looking forward to YOU getting back to it. For my contribution to the wheelstanders, I MIGHT do a Chevy Nomad Wagon. I would use an engine from the Hurst Hairy Olds in the rear. No V-Drive would be needed because it's a front wheel drive set up, just in back. The engine will sit low, but I have an idea to make that look cool too.
  12. Thanks Ray. Love your finished Cobra drag car. I was hoping to get the hobby room up and running this weekend, but a delay with TV mounting hardware slowed progress. If I can get it done soon, I might just join in on the Wheelstander Duel that just started between John T. and Chris. Nothing on their skill level, just a quickie to break in the room and do some airbrush experimenting. Then right back to the body work on the CA Super Bee. So, the bottle paint rack is up and I hung the towel holders I use to store reels of wire, ribbon and tape. The TV goes where the blue tape is above the paint rack. I also picked up a set of peg board hangers for the board I added to the main desk. It might take a few days in reality, but I'm in the home stretch. Sorry I'm unable to post pics, but here's a link to my PhotoBucket page. There are 4 pics of the room. 13. I just tried to update my Charlie Allen topic, but when I paste the URL and hit the button, all I get is a spinning timer. I've done it using this method a week ago. Not working now. Someone suggested using the "add code" brackets but that's not working either. Hopefully, like my hobby room, it's a work in progress.
  14. That is a mind blower Chris. Now I get the "twins" reference. Great start. I can see you're having fun.
  15. Yay Tim !!! That is a thing of beauty young man. I'm always thrilled to see progress. There is a CHANCE that I MIGHT have the hobby room up and running this weekend. Cross your fingers. I missed you man.
  16. MY EYES !!! MY EYES !!! How convenient that it's already surrounded by junk. Builder's Disclaimer: No MOPARS were desecrated during the construction of this automotive abomination.
  17. Nice pics Gary. I'll help make your point on the F/C's. Vega, Camaro, Barracuda, Corvette, Corvette, Challenger, Mustang, Vega, T-Bird, etc. Now, try pulling 20 random people out of the grandstands and ask them to identify these rides. Even if I have one wrong (cough, Challenger?, cough), I'm betting you get 30 to 40 percent correct answers at best.
  18. As far as announcers go. I hope they never bring Cruz Pedregon back. He was not a TV guy. Mixed emotions for me. I have to wish him success to keep him out of the booth? I think I'll take up Professional Air Hockey for my new sport. sigh
  19. You make some excellent points Jesse. At times it seems like Mike Dunn is the only one who is truly jazzed to be there doing what he does and his expertise is unequaled. Let's hope that FOX brings him and maybe another ex-driver along. You're on the right track too John. It all comes down to equipment and mechanical talent to get these cars to perform the way they do. The driver's job is to get off the line first, then if the car mishandles due to mechanical issues or track conditions, correct it to the best of their abilities. When it performs perfectly, that's because of the boys with the wrenches and the knowledge. Also, when a safety issue arises, the driver's can make all of the suggestions they want, but who makes the changes happen? (There are always exceptions to that generalization, like Jim Head and Tim Wilkerson.) Bob, when it comes down to it, these cookie cutter cars are hurting the sport to it's very core. We need diversity. We ain't gettin' it. My love of all things Dodge and Hemi came from the early years, when it meant something. Now I root for personalities, not manufacturers. Unfortunately, I can't go the the dealership on Monday and buy an Erica clone. Finally, is it only coincidence that Rodger Brogdon sells his operation to Elite Motorsports the same weekend these Pro Stock changes are announced?
  20. I've just had one of those, "Stop and smell the roses", moments. I saw things getting a little heated concerning street racing and immediately thought of Big Willie Robinson. Wally Parks started the NHRA, but Big Willie made it popular in a way no one else could. He knew that kids were dying on the streets in their parents cars and he stepped in and got them to channel their desires in a safe and sane manner. I almost fell into that trap right out of high school when I owned a 64 Fairlane. My friend and I yanked the 260 out and popped in a 289 from a Mustang that got wrapped around a telephone pole. Yes, the 'Stang was street racing, but not our problem. That couldn't happen to us. We're smarter than that. Fortunately, my daughter was born and my priorities changed. Yes, I sold it for a station wagon. SHUT UP!!!!!!! The point is, I always wanted to street race, but I only wanted to do it because I knew it was wrong. It's been a while, but R.I.P. Big Willie and tell Tomiko we said "Hi".
  21. Congratz to Larry Morgan. I would have been just as happy if AJ had won. Best burndown in the lights since Warren Johnson and Scott Geoffrion. While visibly upset with himself, Allen took it like a man. Back in the day, WJ acted like he didn't get his milk and graham crackers before his nap. I love that Steve Evans called him out saying, "You could have staged too." Waaaaaaaaaaaaa. Let's see what Sonoma brings. It's only procedural changes but somebody will have something to say. Cars must be backed into the pits and engines uncovered for all to see and no crew assistance on burnouts. Somebody tell Greg Anderson that the NHRA will be thrilled to listen to him before they ignore him.
  22. Brilliant Jesse. To fix the present and the future, bring back the past. Isn't that what we miss about today's cars? Way to think out of the box.
  23. So, the first thing Greg Anderson did was complain about the money. Don't bother Greg, it's the same for everybody. The first thing Larry Morgan said started out, "What I like about this is....." See the difference? I also want to say that as far as my personal beliefs are concerned, I'd rather have The Cartoon Network or The Comedy Channel covering races as opposed to Fox. Maybe even The Oprah Network. However, I can never recall Fox's beliefs and policies creep into NASCAR or NFL coverage, so it's probably a good thing. Everybody keep your fingers crossed. Finally, another thanks to all of you for keeping what could be a volatile subject low key and high IQ. You peoples rock.
