This is a project that I have been working on for a long time. It is an IHC Transtar CO-4090A with the 12V71 engine. I added twin turbos to the engine to make it a 12V71TT. A pusher axle, a 4090 conversion cab, a bunch of bits and pieces from other kits and some Mark Savage rear tires, and still needing a LOT of detailing, such as weld beads, raising the headache rack to match the raised cab height, piping, hoses, and LOTS more miscellaneous details, and maybe some day it MAY reach somewhere near completion. But for now, it is fun to screw around with. The winch arrangement has been changed three times in the last 6 months. Someday, it may actually be what I want! Sure, you seldom see this type of truck as a COE, but, since I LOVE COE's, (and ANYTHING Detroit Diesel), this is where it starts!

I used to have a short nosed 9500 with a 22 foot roll back body on it for my towing company. That old girl was a screamer with the Detroit in it. LOVED that truck, and it brings tears to me eyes whenever I think of the day I let her go for sale. I could shift that old girl faster than my GTO, and you HAD to be able to whenever you got near a hill, but boy oh boy, on the flats............FUN!

Possible project?

That can make a VERY cool build! I was a Fire Chief of a department that had an old corn binder like that one. It hauled a 1000 gallon tank. Kind of overloaded, but made a very neat looking unit. Alas, we replaced it with a newer Ford LN series truck, and the old girl went off to the scrapper. Crying shame, as it also had under 10K miles. -

Missed one of those in an old GMC oil truck at an auction a few years back. The one you built looks MUCH nicer! Great work! -

Love it....................always liked the cabover 'Binders. My current project is a CO-4090A with the V12 Detroit. It has been in progress for quite some time, as I simply cannot build anything out of the box, and have already changed it 7 or 8 times from the original plan. But, it is starting to come together. -
Years ago, when I used to own a body shop and we used to paint ANYTHING, including heavy equipment, much of it was yellow, such as Cat, Case, Dresser, JD etc. Then, somewhere along the line, the paint makers were mandated by the EPA to reduce the lead in paint. POOF, there went the opacity in many paints, but especially yellow. We used to be able to paint Cat yellow over black primer, and it covered in no more than two coats. But when it went lead free, it all became transparent. So, we started using Dupont Vari-Prime as a base coat for the yellow jobs. It worked quite well and covered better than a gray primer base. I have also used tintable primers, but my memory doesn't remember what brand. PPG also made a DP epoxy primer in yellow. I also used to have an endless supply of paints for my models, as I used everything that the real 1:1 jobs did. But, those days are gone. So, I now use Mr. Surfacer 1200 or 1500 as a base, followed by any Model Master flat yellow, such as Dunkelgelb. Then the yellow top coat, applied in thin coats as even then, it must be built up. Progress is NOT such a good thing!

Talbert Detachable Lowboy trailer Kit

I did politely point out to him that it sure would be nice if he refunded all who entrusted him with money. He was not so polite in return. He HAS been down right nasty on Facebook. But, when you scam and lie and rip people off, you can't expect them to be all sugar and spice when asking for their money back. ESPECIALLY when you intentionally ignore them for so long. All I can say is to advise everyone who hasn't received a refund to conta ct him as I did, and take the same road. Be polite but DON'T GIVE UP. AND, do it in public on Facebook. It worked for me. And, YES, I would LOVE to see the Talbert see the light of day. I would buy at least 2 or 3. Doubtful that the master will ever find it's way back home, especially if the attitude and behavior of Travis holds true. And, no, it's not propaganda.......................it is FACT. -

I have achieved success! Got the refund from Travis. I suggest all others who have not yet done so, to persevere! Don't give up! -

Yeah, I may have gotten his attention a little bit, but he is still doing the best imitation of a mushroom farmer, as far as communication is concerned, that I have ever seen, (keep us in the dark and feed us LOTS of bovine defecation!). Last I heard from him was Monday when he said, he would "get to it". Right.................................and I am expecting hundred dollar bills to fall from the heavens any time soon too! Looks like he is all show, no go. I have filed with the FTC. We'll see how far that gets. In the mean time, back to the hobby, the heck with the scammers! Guess I will get to doing my own lowboy. Anyone out there have any drawings, photos of the detachable mechanism? Thanks! -

I use a Paasche unit with regulator, auto on and off depending upon pressure, and a storage tank. I have not had moisture problems...............yet. It was not expensive and powers both my Paasche V and H brushes very well. -

Since it seems that he refuses to maintain contact with any of those that he scammed, and he DID reply to me via Facebook after I posted a uncomplimentary review, go to this link: https://www.facebook.com/TT-Model-Truck-Parts-594190207347228/timeline/, and post your own review of his services and products. At least it will let any other unsuspecting people know that he is a scammer. I have not gotten a refund yet, but I DID get his attention. -

I was one of the hopeful who sent HIM a DEPOSIT..................six months ago. I FINALLY got a message back from him only after I posted a review of his work on Facebook. To be honest, I have ZERO faith that I will get a refund of the deposit. He sent me a very rude message that I won't go into. Suffice it to say that after he said he would send a refund if I sent him an email about how and when I paid him, which I did, I have not heard a thing....................again. He sure does seem like he has totally lost his credibility and has zero intention of refunding anyone. But, at least I got his attention, and now he at least KNOWS without a doubt that his name is mud in the modelling community. Lets see how he plays it out............................or not. -

JUST got a message from Travis in response to a review I posted on his Facebook page. Granted, the review was a little bit scathing, but after sending a deposit to him over six months ago, and not hearing a WORD from him, I ran out of ideas on how to contact him. He said his email account was hacked, and that he got none of the phone messages I left him. Good news is he said he would send a refund. I also suggested to him that he let the modelling community know what happened, through the same channels that he announced his project, as he has taken a bit of a hit with this failure. Will keep you posted as to what transpires! -
Besides model building of ALL types, my other hobbies are old cars and trucks, motorcycling, hunting, shooting, gun collecting, my dogs, and most importantly, my family. I am a compulsive collector. I have large collections of toys, probably two thousand books on history, vehicles and guns, and a huge gun collection. FINALLY got rid of most of my vehicle collection when I moved and simply didn't have room in the new garage, (old one was 50 x 100......new one isn't close to that!). Life is too short......no where near enough time OR money!

What's Everyone Profession,etc..job,
redneckrigger replied to stanleymsn's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Went to school to be a teacher, switched to engineering. Mechanical engineering, (textile and then paper machinery), world travelling installing said machinery, switched to heavy construction when it got old to be away from home. Did that until a work injury killed my back. Complete change of direction to owner of a full service garage, body and collision shop, (cars, big rigs, and heavy equipment), towing service and restoration shop, with my oldest son running the place. Finally gave in to my injury and then suddenly found myself owner of a gun shop when my Dad died. Now I own a gun and gunsmithing shop, with my sons who will be the fourth generation owners, with my youngest son running it. Someday, I'll figure out what I want to do when I grow up! Life takes LOTS of twists and turns! It's sometimes hard to keep up! -
