  1. It was '69 or '70. My mom helped me with a '68 Camaro. I too was imediately hooked. I built cars and semi's up to the time I passed my drivers test when I was 15 y/o. Then it was jobs, sports, girls and school occasionaly got in the way. Then last summer something drew me back at 48 y/o. I just wish i had more time to build but with family....well, time is precious. But the changes to the hobby are nothing short of amazing and my time I do get at my build desk sure is relaxing! 2. Locomotive engineer....starting my 30th year this June. I can remember the day I hired out like it was yesterday. But I cannot rmember yesterday very often.
  3. Forgot to add.....I like your project. Your own idea or.....?
  4. If the second axle steers, would that axle have to turn at approx 1/2 of the radius of the front axle? To prevent a poor turning characteristic, undue stress to the frame? Bruce in Fargo
  5. I really like your display John. It is fun to see how when all different things from a certain "era", etc, are used together like this. I too, am your age, and within the last year got back into building after being "away from the hobby" for over 30 years...about the time I got my drivers license and discovered girls. The changes to the hobby over the years are nothing short of amazing! Plus, the loads of talent that are shown on this site.....WOW! Sure is a relaxing hobby, especially with a two year old daughter/hurricane terrorizing our home! Welcome from another new guy and enjoy! Brice in Fargo
  6. You probably will NOT be licensing this in North Dakota so you do not have to worry about your bumper height or keeping the wheels inside the wheel wells or flares. Nice work! Color? Grabber oramge with black or white stripes like the late 60's Canary's would look nice.... Bruce in Fargo
  7. Paul.....'whipped it out in five days".....with alot of practice I could not whip something like that out in five years! GR8 job and thnks for getting the holiday spirit going here!! Bruce
  8. Welcome Frank and Merry Christmas! I have not been here long but I believe that you will be impressed with everything from talent to help to everything. Bruce
  9. Imperfections???? You've got to be kidding! Where? Very nice work!!
  10. Very nice work Steve! One can see the patience and skill involved in this build. Like the little thing of getting the color right for the year of the truck. Once again, very nice!! Bruce
  11. I'm glad I read this. I was told that Krylon primer and Duplicolor worked together. No? Yes? T.I.A. Bruce
  12. Very nice work!! The paint job is one of the best I've ever seen too!! It's friggin' scary if this is your first truck build. There is no romm for improvement when your first try is the top shelf. But, did you see that you forgot the crankcase dip stick? The pic that shows the engine sitting by itself the dip stick is not there. But, who am I to judge as my work is many levels below this.
  13. I don't like foreign cars BUT, that thing looks FAST sitting still!
  14. I believe it was on this site that I saw a tip on using hot water for frame work. It works. I heated some water in the mic, set the frame rail in the hot water, let set for a few minutes and gradually worked it back. Anyway....did not know how far back I needed to go to find that post. So, if whomever sugested this method reads this post, Thank You! Bruce
  15. I too say a hearty congratulations on the new job. Plus a GREAT BIG THANK YOU for serving our country. My nephew is a Sgt Mjr with the 188 ADA here in North Dakota. He too has done time In Afghanistan. Right now his cousin is over there with the same outfit. God Bless our Troops and God Bless the USA!!
  16. I liked Red's advice..."If she can't find ya handsome. Make sure she finds ya handy!"
  17. Great job on the fuel tanks! Did the tank straps come with the kit or did you make the straps? If you made them please let me know how and what you used for material. Thanks and keep us posted! Bruce in Fargo
