After posting the "Hot Rod History HHUG" http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=82962 I got to thinkin, Who was first and just how many were there? I have a collection of "Racing Champions" diecast cars depicting various wheelstanders. But looking at our good friend Google https://www.google.com/search?q=wheelstanders+drag+racing&espv=210&es_sm=122&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=3wWyUsGvK6TgyQGv74DgDg&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1600&bih=774#imgdii=_ I realized there are quite a few. So who was first ? http://bangshift.com/blog/the-top-11-greatest-wheelstanders.html

Hobby Shops... Are They Viable Today?
Greg Myers replied to Tom Geiger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There's nothing like the feeling of walking into a shop with well stocked shelves and being greeted by the owner with a big smile. Then walking down the aisles (more than one ) full of neat stuff, new kits you haven't seen, old kits from a collection and maybe that kit you planed on getting. When you pick up that kit that caught your eye and you are surprised at the weight of the box, you check out the side panels only to discover all the options you didn't know came with the kit. What a great feeling, something that doesn't come to you on line. Now you take it to the counter to pay and the friendly owner tells you about another new release you didn't know about. Now that's what the hobby shop experience is all about. I can tell you about this because I have done this many times at the two hobby shops I frequent here in Arizona, one in Phoenix and one in Tucson. -

Hollywood Knights

The '57's on my list. I first thought of doing it in large scale, 1/12, then not so large 1/16th. Now I'm thinking more 1/25th. The iteration has me stumped. How many different versions were there? Small block, Big block, blown etc. I don't likt the latest version that GM did, too flashy for me. I grew up watching in change (test) in the monthly issue of PHR. -
"RUSH" the movie
Greg Myers replied to DavidChampagne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
and this http://seattletimes.com/html/entertainment/2021897523_rushmoviexml.html kind of harsh. But I agree with the second to last paragraph on photography. It's out there , you just have to look : http://www.historyvshollywood.com/reelfaces/rush.php -
Let's start with this ; Please don't tack this on to the already fine, review / Discussion of the film in the thread below http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=80117 My question here, and I believe it should stand alone, is what movie do you think would stand up to the new Ron Howard film Rush? and why?

"RUSH" the movie
Greg Myers replied to DavidChampagne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
With all the glowing reviews I wonder where to start. I guess first off, I did like the film and the two hours went by fast leaving me feeling sad at the end thinking about the main characters. It is a great film not flinching from the real history of both cars and drivers. However thinking of the many hours watching F1 on TV I didn't think the racing scenes were up to par. I did think they were a little more artsy than necessary. I would have prefered more technical information and coverage of the cars. Case in point the six wheel Tyrrell cars were there but if you didn't know they were in the film the novice would miss them. It is one of the better Racing films to date. I think one would be hard pressed to find one better. I really think you miss a lot by not seeing this on the BIG screen. -
Don't remember this one.

Oh yeah, US NAVY 1969-1973 missed the Aurora Racing Scenes also. -
At least they usually get this one right.

Using surplus American WWII aircraft in Hollywood films is not what I'm talking about here. It's the blatant use of government archival film footage to make a point on the local and national news showing the wrong aircraft. In this day and age this glaring error should be corrected as it has gone on for too long.

What color should it be ?
Greg Myers replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks Fred. That's what I'm talkin' about. No real rules here just all the stars in the sky and the planets in line. light blue, not red, not orange, not yellow. -
Why do "they" keep showing us USN SBD dive bombers bombing Pearl Harbor. Every year on the news they use a short clip showing American planes dropping bombs on Pearl Harbor. That would be the first planes in this clip and again at 2:56 ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nt13c3olXkU USN Douglas Dauntless SBD dive bomber
