Big Day For Gregg Tomorrow
Phil Patterson replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's pretty cool, Congrats!! -
I'd like to see the ex-MPC AMT 70 Bonneville as a 4 door, and if they could toss in Catalina 4 door sedans for 67 and 68 and 69, that wouldn't hurt my feelings either! And just for something off the wall, redo the old IMC-Lindberg Dodge A100 as a window van, though I think that would technically be a 6 door? Oh yeah, the AMT 70 Impala too while they're at it, make that one a BelAir 4 door sedan.

I don't have all that many Ferrari kits, but I'd like to get this one, the 58 250 Testa Rossa is just so gorgeous! -
Licensing Fees Gone Wild...
Phil Patterson replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've got a set of Goodyear winter treads on the back of my minivan. They flat spot when cold and thump until they warm up. This usually takes 15 miles or more, sometimes much more on a cold day like today. Once these wear out, I won't be buying anymore Goodyear products. The regular Goodyear tires I've bought in the past were less than adequate in either tire life, handling and especially smoothness. This stupid anti-advertising, kick the consumers in the teeth policy has switched me over to the anti-Goodyear, won't buy anymore of their products category. It's basically the straw that broke the camel's back. Hope you got your money's worth out of those lawyers, Goodyear, you're not getting any more of mine. -
I should have known and good to hear! With Modelhaus that means no quality problems and quick service too! Yes, I like Modelhaus..

As stated by Chris V, no. But with some careful shaving and trimming, the appearance can be much improved. Do some image searches, I recommend the Online Imperial club for reference pics. Also, the 60 Imperial wheel is the same, and the one that came in my 60 Imperial kit was molded correctly, so maybe someone could resin cast one of those. Steering wheel is pretty much the same through 63 so maybe a later kit can be used for a donor or hit the parts boxes..

What Would You Like For Christmas?
Phil Patterson replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll just be happy if they'll go through their old tools and be sure there isn't something in there that hasn't been reissued in ages that has been overlooked. They've done very well bringing back the Camaro and Challenger funny cars, Buick Wildcat, both the stock 71 and the "Big Al" Allison powered 69 Thunderbirds. I'll even mention the 34 Ford pickup that got into Lindbergs hands inadvertently. When you think what may be waiting in there either ready to go, or may need a part replaced like the 59 Imperial kit, and what a good investment that was, it just boggles the mind. Start diggin, AMT, you've got a treasure trove on your hands if you just use it. -

Dodge W300 Help
Phil Patterson replied to rd_draft's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Off the top of my head, I'd say that a stretched Lindberg-Imc L700 chassis may be best. -
That's going to be sweet! As much of a Mopar fan as I am, that's one kit I've never built. I need to get after one!! Look forward to seeing yours when it's done!

Partial Paint Removal On A Die-cast
Phil Patterson replied to FUSIONBOY's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I've had good luck using my daughter's finger nail polish remover to remove tampo printing on diecasts. You have to be careful on any raised edges, but it does a pretty good job. I removed all the Coke emblems, panels and striping on a Johnny Lightning 57 Ford courier, leaving a nice white paint job. -
Forty Years Of Hot Wheels
Phil Patterson replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I liked taking the big slicks and little fronts from the cars that had them like "The Spoilers" series, then swap them onto the ones that didn't. You had to be careful though because sometimes the rear slicks would rub on certain vehicles. I remember being quite upset when they made the wheels permanently attached, I felt they shouldn't have been letting "babies" play with those toys in the first place! I was around 11 at the time, IIRC. -
I like to brush some liquid cement on the joint I want to come apart, let it set for a minute or so, then usually it pops apart. Sometimes a little scribing with the back of an X-acto knife along the seam helps. Don't leave it go too long though, or you just re-glued it. I've used the freezing trick Mike mentions as well to good effect, though I usually immerse the model in water so the expansion of the H20 helps work the parts apart.

What's Your Background Noise?
Phil Patterson replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Generally it's the kids listening to the tv or playing a video game. Also, the cats slapping something around and skidding in the kitchen. I do try real hard not to drop anything on the floor while building, or it disappears in a hooked claw slap shot! -
The Museum Of Mid Century Illustration
Phil Patterson replied to kk916's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Cool! Thanks much for sharing! -
Can't wait to see it completed but count me too as another vote for ditch the wing. It's not a deal killer either way, just think the car would look cleaner without it.

The thing is, I'd love to see Revell take that old tooling and make "mod stockers" out of them, similar to what AMT did to the 65 Olds, 66 Skylark, etc etc, except a group of Tri-5 Chevys would be a lot more legitimate. Even better with the separate doors and things, you could hang them crooked, dented or whatever , just like an actual local hero stock car! Open up the wheel wells, throw some big tires and you're good to go, leave whatever parts as leftovers and IIRC, there was some good accessories parts in those old kits. I figure it's a better use of those kits then letting them collect dust, though it may be awhile before someone would want to invest the money into modifying that tooling.

What Would You Wish For?
Phil Patterson replied to bandit.93's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'd be happy to see a 57 thru 59 Dodge to go along with the AMT 57 300 and 58 Belvedere. They could even use some of the underpinnings from the Belvedere and the 300's engine as an option. I would lean towards the 57-58 because they are similar enough you may be able to get 2 years into one kit, and could be used to update the JoHan 59 Dodge. -
Whoa, scary stuff! I slipped and fell on the porch after the first frost, but did nothing like that to myself. You heal up quick and we'll be praying for you!

Wood Choppers Hollow Rod & Kustom New Shop Truck
Phil Patterson replied to Tom Jackson's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looks good! My wife's great aunt had a brown Ranchero that year. Not near so nice as yours, but I do wish I had bought it off her when I had the chance. 72 Torinos are one of my more favorite Fords. -
It's on my to-do list. I've also got one of the curbside promo kits that Okey reissued not long ago that I may fool around with some as well. Too many projects lined up first, waiting for inspiration, all teh typical excuses.... I remember doing the Gypsy dune buggy reissue, which while fiddley, not near so troublesome as the one I did back in 67 when I was 11, amazing things happen when you look at the instructions!

Jo-Han Turbine car, though the one I gluebombed was a long time ago. I may give it another go if I can blunder into a spray bomb of Turbine Bronze to paint it with. I had about the same result out of a IMC 46-48 Ford too, back in the day.
