Lowrider Appreciation with Jay Leno
Joe Handley replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Watched that last night and.I'm not sure what impressed me more, how straight that '66 now is or the level of detail and the full width grill on the '63. -
Home Owners Association, the intent is to make sure things are clean and uniform around the neighborhood or sub division. Problem is that you'll get wanna be Napolions in these Associations that can get very demanding of their neighbors over things like house color, grass depth, size, location, and types of any flags and poles, ect. I think they can be far worse that any real "government" that you'd run into.

Well IIRC, Federal powers supercedes state, then state supercedes county, county supercedes local, I would think that if the state tells you not to water your lawn to save water, local governments would have no choice but to follow suit and any acting judge should throw the fine out if you have to appear before one. However, get somebody who thinks that their word is THE WORD, no matter what higher ranking officals say, and that could be a whole mess. Wonder what these cities would do if you tore out your lawn and replaces it with gravel and a rock garden with the occasional desert dwelling plant because of these conditions...............

Sadly, that even dead on for something like Lexan R/C car bodies. I painted this body up to sell after I found it wasn't really going to work like I wanted for something else. I had a customer who does plastic models say he wanted to try the now defunct Pactra R/C Candy Purple over their 2 Stage Galactic Purple on a customized car or show rod model at some point, so I gave it a shot with that '49-'53 Chevy Truck body. I bought everything with my employee discount which amounted to around $45 or so and was asking $60 for it, which was a out what the body and paint cost at full retail plus a few bucks. I actually had several people tell me I was asking too much and that they could do it for less, even though they had never shot a body before and didn't have the tools made for cutting those bodys out either.

I'm not sure what us uglier, the Prado or the Shuttle?! -
Part of the problem too is marketshare and the off chance of people wanting that ability, not as many Mopars on the roads as there are of any of the competing vehicles or of it's a not typically modded vehicle (like minivans), then if they're more difficult to hack on top of that, the manufacturers of these programmers may just figure it's not worth bothering to do so. Then you have the guys that are just too cheap to buy parts to mod vehicles too, I've heard Banks developed a turbo kit for the 4.0l XJ Cherokees to match their 4.0l TJ Wrangler kit, but chose not to produce it because most guys who mod Cherokees have built their own from junkyard parts or are too dang cheap to even do that. Same thing happened with the Sprintex Supercharger for the XJ, they made a handful for development purposes, but found there was no market for them and decided not to make them, but still do for the TJ and JK. Kinda leaves guys like me out because I'd rather have a source of prefabricated parts, if not a full kit than have to figure out what all needs to be done to make it work, then learn the skills to aftually make it happen.

If they lock that car and engine down like did many of the Pentastar equipped vehicles, it could take some time to at least get a programmer made for it. The Avenger and 200 first got that motor in '11, but Diablosport didn't get a program to market until earlier this year. They were able to cook them up quicker for the Wrangler, Challenger, Charger, and 300, but those were going to be more popular with people who would mod the 3.6 vs the 200/Avenger and especially the Minivans and Journey.

I read a lot of the same stuff in high school about Ford and as a person, both in the business and personal life, he sounded pretty despicable. Wouldn't be surprised if Edsel's death at a fairly young age had something to do with his father's behavior, as well as why "The Deuce" (which could go a couple ways in describing him) acted the way he did too.

I ain't complainin'!

IIRC, not only could his workers afford the cars they built, but it helped hold off unionization (he despised unions almost as much as he did Jewish people!), and most importantly, it reduced production costs because fewer people left for "greener pastures" and they weren't constantly training new people, which adds cost to vehicle production.

Had to share CARpet
Joe Handley replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yup, think we still have some of those at work, IIRC -
Turns out my phone has a number blocking feature, so I made use of that the other day and it's kinda nice and quiet now. A friend sent me a text this afternoon and when we finally slowed down enough to look, every one of the blocked numbers popped up as being blocked within the few hours between the time I got to work and got the chance go check the phone!

Looks like they did a fantastic job on it! -
Lol, that is true, it does seem to be about 5/4 to 4/3 the size of the originals, and the Countryman CUV sure doesn't help that any. You are right on the Porsche like traits on the New, New Beetle, some of it could be that the huge tail lights that are more modern Porsche looking.

Well, this is going to be a 2015, retro is neat, but it's time to move forward.
