It's hard to believe this came out of an AMT box. This kit is very well engineered and detailed. Unusually high parts count and plenty of delicate pieces and some of the best chrome I have ever seen. Nice and smooth with no dirt at all. I was really impressed and it went together with no problems at all, but it needed a few scratch-built details. Refinished in DuPont lacquers; engine wired and plumbed; scratch built fuel pump and fuel filter, throttle and choke cable, generator, and distributor, and ignition coil. Scratch built interior door handles and window cranks, shifter, parking brake lever, trunk hold down straps and side lift handles. Very enjoyable, but time consuming build. Spent about a month doing it. I realllly like these old kits. I wish the old time engineers were still around; we need more kits like this.

Years ago when I worked at a Lincoln Mercury dealership, we had a refridgerator that the employees would share. We had some guys that were fisherman and would bring in blue fish filets to share. Well, we also had a younger guy detailer working in the wash rack; he wasn't the brightest. One day there was some leftover fish in the fridge, so we had the bright idea to take the fish and lay it on top of his muffler. The next day we're all sitting around getting ready to eat lunch and we didn't want to mention the fish to him, but one of us comented how it was "Nation Fried Fish Week." Then the kid speaks up and said "That explains why I smelled fish frying every time I stop at a light!"

Years ago when I had my own body shop, we had a bead blaster cabinet in the corner. It was under a leaky roof, so all the glass beads got wet and I needed a way to dry them out instead of buying a new bag of beads. I found a box that a hood was shipped in that resembled a giant pizza box. So I put it on the floor next to the bead cabinet and dumped all the wet beads into it, spread them out, and pulled it to the center of the shop. A small trail of beads had leaked out of the corner of the box while doing so. I brought over a couple of heat lamps to dry out the beads which at this point had looked like a pile of wet beach sand. A few minutes later, the delivery guy from my paint supplier shows up with a puzzled look on his face..."What's that??" Goofing around I told him I had brought in my pet clam, Seafoam. He didn't believe me, so I said "Come here, I'll show ya." I started digging around in the center of the mound of wet glass beads and started swearing and yelling, "That SOB escaped!!!" pointing to the thin trail of glass beads leading back to the cabinet. I then went to the office to write out a check for this delivery guy, came back a few minutes later and he's nowhere to be found. I started looking for him and I found him mumbling the name Seafoam under his breath..checking under cars, under milk crates, under battery chargers, all over the place looking for my "pet clam". I handed him the check, shook my head in disbelief and walked away.

This is the Basic Builder kit from RM. Engine was wired and plumbed, refinished in custom mix BASF lacquers- inside and out, clear coated in DuPont urethane, loads of foil required. This was a really nice kit with a lot of options. I highly recommend it.

And they said it couldn't be done... Considering it was an old kit, it wasn't too bad. It just needed a lot of TLC. The entire body was re-scribed, as well as the interior. The finishes are DuPont Laquer, BASF Laquers, cleared with DuPont Urethane. Parts box, tires, and white wall inserts, loads of foil.

This is a really old AMT kit of the Grant King Sprint Car. I wired and plumbed the engine, scrtach built the velocity stacks, for the interior I added gauges and rivet detail, seat belt hardware. Re-finished in BASF lacquers.

This kit's not as crappy as people say it is. I consider it to be a blank canvas. The details are soft, but workable, with some scratch building. The 17 piece body went together very well and precisely. (I was really impressed.) The only real problem was the front and rear bumpers and the mounts. They had to be re-worked to look okay, but not perfect. The engine was wired and plumbed. Scratch built inside and outside door handles, window cranks, outside rear view mirror, and tail lights. Parts box fog lights, windshield wipers, and tires. Refinished in PPG lacquers, clear coated with DuPont urethane clear.

Revell kit. Refinished in BASF lacquers (Adobe Beige over Sierra Gold). Wired and plumbed, scratch built battery hold down, ballast resistor, fuel bowl filter, parking brake cable, fuel lines.

Lindberg kit, started 15 years ago and finally got around to finishing it. Some parts got lost along the way, so I ended up scratch building the master cylinder and distributor. Refinished in Plasticoat and PPG lacquers, DuPont urethane clear coat. Engine wired and plumbed, underside details include parking brake cable, fuel line, and rear shock mounts, scratch built antenna and bezel.

This is how my stang looked when I bought it on July 3, 1973. It's on its 4th complete paint job now. Refinished in RM lacquer, DuPont urethane clear coat. Scratch built items include antenna (repositioned the 2 horns to the proper location), starter solenoid, voltage regulator, distributor and coil, heater blower motor, master cylinder, parking brake cables, shifter linkage, clutch fork.

Refinished in BASF lacquers, DuPont urethane clear coat. Wired and plumbed. Scratch built headlight mounting panels, starter solenoid, windshield washer jug, master cylinder, parking brake cable, fuel line, tailpipe extensions.

The whole build took about 3 weeks .the decals took about 12 hours, the edges kept lifting and curling up, so I had to babysit them untill dry

25 year old Revell kit (decals were complete garbage. Decals were 25 years old and did not react well to solvents). Refinished in PPG and RM lacquers with a DuPont urethane clear coat. Scratch built items: front tow ring, oil cooler, radiator expansion tank, front shock oil resivoirs, ignition boxes, window safety net, shoulder harness, battery cut off switch, oil overflow tank, battery box, wired and plumbed throughout.
