Can you create rust with spray cans?
Volksfan posted a topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I was just wondering. I'm still practicing with an airbrush but I want to weather sometime soon so can you use the hair spray and salt technique with cans and get a good finish? I was thinking to get a realistic look of several tones of rust, use a thin sponge to filter the thin paint coats and give it a spotty affect. i was thinking I could use colors like Tamiya ts flat brown, ts red brown, and a little of ts yellow something. i need feedback.- 3 replies

Thanks for the info Patrick.

Really nicely done. I love the interior. ?

Craig, that is really cool! I did not know that. The first Manxs are the best.

I do have a question however. I need help with the front seats. I want to make them two tone with the center part of the seats a different color in between the piping. It is really hard to mask it off because the seats are flat on the top and base but curves sideways on the center. The tape wants to move, wrinkle, or if a press it rips and is uneven. Can somebody help?? The seat I have right now: the affect I want that is shown on this kit (look at the two tone seats):

Sorry no posts in a while. I've been working on my other build. Anyways, I finished the chassis of the Manx. It was very easy to put together accept the rear shocks. The body fits fine and I decided to add the roll bar to give it a more beach buggy look.

Big update: I finished the chassis and the interior. I need to clean some spots on the seat backs with some thinner or alcohol. This was my first time using decals. I used the us spec speedometer and the Wolfsburg crest for the steering wheel. I painted the radio because I thought the decade looked a little cartoony. First, a real vw wheel from the same period:

Loved the p4. A great car to add lots of detail.

I went there and it was a blast. Good job on the pics?

I am most likely going to be there

It would be cool if somebody modified the AMT Manx kit to make it look like the first Meyers Manx from 1964, Old Red. I wonder how hard it would be to modify or scratchbuild the front hood and the chassis. I'm sure you can use the Tamiya 1966 vw 1300 as a downer kit for the interior, wheels, turn signals, and engine. Here are pics of the real car:

Yeah Craig. I think those first 12 cars looked better especially because of the front hood. some examples, these are 4 of the first 12:

Nice engine I see you used brass for the linkage.

1962 Mazda Carol 1/32 arii
Volksfan replied to Volksfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If the quality is good, I might consider getting it from online because of the subject matter. It's a Carol! real Mazda carol: -
Has anyone ever built the arii 1/32 Mazda carol, if so what does it look like when it is finished and what is the kit quality like? pictures of the kit from online: the kit only has like 20 parts I think.

Thanks. I'm currently finishing the exhaust.

Nice motor. Clean assembly.?

I'm most likely going to use the stock steering wheel but I'm also considering a vw one. I have an extra steering wheel and I know that some of the manxes had vw steering wheels. Pictures of real Meyers Manxs.

Thanks Ray

Love the early 60s cars. Last of the tailfins and were longer, lower, and wider. I love your beautiful Pontiac. But my favorite part of the model is that, quad tone fantasy interior!

I've been detailing the interior panels and assembled the wheels and tires. They are just box stock.

Thanks Snake for the info. Also I noticed that also about the bottom. Even Tim Boyd did not do it on his green one!
