Being one of the first 1/12 scale kits from Tamiya, it's age really shows in engineering and fit, but it was impressive back in the day. This is my first attempt at this particular kit and I'm currently working on the "snake pit" of exhaust tubes. I've seen pictures from Tamiya as too the placement of the primary tubes coming off the engine, but there really seems to be no actual mounting points. They just seem to "hang" in the vicinity of the engine "valley", but there is no actually mounting for them. It really doesn't make any sense as to where they actually mount to. Anyone have ideas from you past experience? BTW, I have built a few 1/12 Tamiya kits in years past including the Ferrari 312T4, Renault RE20 Turbo & the Martini Porsche 935 and though fairly complex, they were all great builds without issues. TIA Ghost

Now if they would only do it 1/12 scale.... now we're talkin'!

What is a "girls " car ?
Ghostmech replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
True chick cars are usually smallish 2 seater cars like Fiero, Miata and even lower level Porsche Boxsters and VW Cabriolets. -

"Holy Grail" Models?
Ghostmech replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Funny this topic comes up the day I received my HOLY GRAIL kit! A couple of weeks ago I was contacted out of the blue to see if I wanted this kit. I figured the fella wanted the usual 800.00 or more as when they occasionally show up on Ebay which I could not justify....even for a "grail" kit. I ended up paying $250.00 and it is complete and un-built....great find and great buy (thanks John) -
Base model parts for Revell 67 Camaro?
Ghostmech replied to realgone58's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Anyone know if a RS/SS grill (hidden headlights) is available for the new Revell 67 Camaro? -
Hah! Yeah, I got a magnet and a vacuum cleaner with an old nylon parts catcher on the hose end just for those problems. It really wasn't too bad $$-wise. I spent a lot more the 1/12 Enzo and Porsche GT kits. What can I say, I love this big Tamiya stuff.

Finally done! Tamiya 1/12 renault re20 turbo OBO....
Ghostmech replied to Ghostmech's topic in Model Cars
Hey Tony....no, it actually fit pretty good (as seen in the second photo) once I made adjustments and screwed it down. I made that display so I could show the mechanicals without having to have the body completely removed and sitting off to the side. It also makes for a smaller footprint on/in a display or contest table. This was a pretty tough build ...made worse by neglect and broken parts but it all worked out in the end. Thanks to all for looking and the kind words -
This is the culmination of 30 years of neglect. I started this long ago, stopped and started a couple of times. Along the way I had to fix broken parts and some that were even damaged by being stored next to vinyl parts. Finally started to organize, fix and paint it... And it's finally done ... all out of the box (except the display)... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v132/Ghostmech/DSCF0328_zps098ce201.jpg

$250,000 for a Mustang knockoff?
Ghostmech replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think its a ridiculous concept imho...a weird looking, old school 'stang fastback with a ZR1 engine/ and suspension control system. Give me a real ZR1 and with the extra $125.000.00+ dollars, I would have a MUCH better car that that thing. At least they could've used Ford Parts....maybe some Supercharged EFI Boss 429 engine or something akin to that instead of that mish mash they are presenting. Sorry, It does nothing for me at all....but to each his own. -
I with ya Chuck, I definitely want to, but I keep thinking I should wait until they get the accessory sets posted for both the Harley and LaFerrari too..... to save on shipping.
-
According to the HLJ video, there will be a separate accessory set for the Harley but its not one the website yet. Along with the LaFerrari, is anyone else thinking about ordering one of those Harleys too?
-
Could a 1/12 scale kit be far behind? It seem not only is Tamiya doing a 1/24 scale version of the LaFerrari, but are putting out two RC versions and an "Expert Build"(?) version at almost $270 US. Wonder what this "Expert Build" will be........hmmm. http://www.hlj.com/scripts/hljlist?GenreCode2=all&Word=LaFerrari&x=15&y=26

LaFerrari: New supercar introduced today
Ghostmech replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You guys who picking this thing apart are crazy! That is absolutely beautiful! I have always loved the Enzo, but this is a whole new level of beauty and design. LaFerrari is my NEW favorite car! I guess I better be careful ...don't want my Z06 to know I'm in love with someone else....she may get jealous and leave me on the side of the road ;-)
