Coming down the home stretch on this one. A test of patience from the very beginning. Warped parts, poor fit, "Guess-o-matic" on some of the instructions / color code, decal breakage. Can't wait to see it leave my work table.

As shown on the cover of Hot Rod, November 1956. This model was actually a copy of Romeo Palamides car, dubbed "The Romeo". He ran a 3/8" stroked ( 305"), Hilborn injected, Herbert roller cam alcohol fired Desoto. 39 Merc trans ( using second and third), 40 Ford rear with 3.78:1 gearing and a Halibrand quick change. Total build cost -= $4500.00.

Ya, They all look great. Awesome collection.

No, the engine came from a Revell parts pack.

I built this model a long time ago, so I can't remember for sure, but I think they were highly modified Jo-Hans. Couldn't use the Jo-Han body as ours was a 440 2dr sedan body. Body was resin cast. Hood scoop was of the 64 Hemi design which I fabricated from Card board. Original headers were Doug's. They had 2" primary tubes 34" long in to a 3.5" collector which we extended another 12" to try and help low end torque. The over all length of the headers was LONG, which caused them to crack at the header flanges until we finally ran straps from the end of the collectors to the body - to keep them from bouncing so much. I didn't use much out of the Jo-Han kit due to its poor detail quality. Actual chassis I used was from a Revell Mopar "B" body kit which I had to section a small amount to get the wheel base correct. Much better detail than the Jo-Han kit. I believe the engine ( parts of it anyway ) came from the Jo-Han. We ran two 750 vacuum sec. Holleys ( verses the stock Carter AFB ), so those cam from my parts box. No crankcase evacuation back in the day, so we ran open ( baffled ) tubes on the valve covers. This was an all steel car that weighed in a 3410. Per rules in our class, car could not weigh less than 3400, so we were right there on the weight. Traction control consisted of a pinion snubber, and clamping the front section of the leaf springs together.

A good place to start your build might be the Mobius #1229 - 1965 Plymouth Hemi Super Stock - Melrose Missile decals. This kit ( which I just acquired ) is on my build list. Lots of pics out there on the net of the Missile. Assume S&M and the Missile cars were very close in construction.

Sure, as long as it doesn't "Nick" the hole.

Hope he hangs in there for a while. My hero's are dropping like flies lately. I will be at the finals in Pomona in a few months and maybe I will run in to him again.

……… and just to prove you are right …….. LOL! I guess my memory is pretty short also - she said. Musta got it mixed up with one of these.

Finally got a good pic of the frame from a guy on another site ( Vintage drag models). It shall be Blue. Thanks.

Pretty cool stuff Hakan.

This build was not from a kit. I believe the frame came from AMT's Double Dragster. Engine and other parts came from my parts stash.

I am in the process of putting together Polar Lights kit # P853-200 - Candies and Hughes Barracuda funny car. The plans call for the chassis to be painted color guide "P". Unfortunately, the paint color guide legend stops at letter "0". ????????????? The body is to be painted Arctic blue metallic. Anyone got a clue on the chassis color?

Thanks all. Lots of compound curves made decaling difficult. Some I just had to cut, fill in with paint ( mixed to match ), and clear coat. This model won a top ten at the 2016 Good Guys model show in Scottsdale, Az
