65 Chevy Shcool Bus
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I've made some progress. I got the door moved to the other side and some of the bodywork finished up. I still need to do some finish work on the door and the connection of the bus/truck. I really like to shorter look of it. Now to figure out the interior and modify the floor to work with the door flip. I have also been describing the body lines to make sure they don't get lost in the bodywork. -

Styrene dump bed and parts
Oldmopars replied to fordf-100's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I bought the Rescue Utility Body for a scale version of my 1:1 Chevy K30 Fire/Rescue truck. I am pleased with it. I asked him to leave the doors off of it because they do not match my 1:1 and he did, just sent them loose in a bag. This was great, I would have had to pry them off and fix the damage caused, but he did as I asked and that saves me time. Do know that his stuff is cut out on some kind of CNC device and it leaves a bit of a rough edge, so not ready to paint out of the box, will need some love to make it show worthy. With that said, I would have spent over $28 is stock and time to get what I got in the box. So, overall very pleased. -
Looking for advise on sandable primer
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thank you. I am working on a School Bus that I have done extensive work to (shortened 2in, new nose, moved door, etc) and there has been a lot of cutting and sanding, filling, etc. I want to be able to put some primer that will fill on it so I can make sure through all my sanding I find those imperfections and get them filled, or sanded out. -
So, I ordered the Daisy Duke "CJ7", from the E-Bay ad it was hard to tell it was not a CJ7. No problem, it was still new in the box shrink wrapped so I got what I paid for and am still happy. However, as I like to do, I like to build more accurate models of my favorite T show cars. I spent many hours on the "General Lee" using a Revell Pro-modeller 69 Charger R/T and the AMT Dukes decals and wheels/tires. So, I would like to find a good 1/25 CJ7, the AMT Daisy Duke "Dixie" Jeep is not a CJ7, but a CJ5/M38-A1. Anyone know of a good kit? Just for the record, Dixie was a CJ7 Golden Eagle, the AMT kit is a CJ5, and an old one at that, the decals say "Daisy" on the hood, it should say "Dixie" or have "Golden Eagle" on the hood and "Dixie" on the doors. Beyond that the wheels are the wrong color and several other details are wrong for a true "Dixie"

I have a few projects going right now that will be due for paint soon. It has been a long break for me and I had never used Acrylics before, but now I am. I need to find a good sandable primer that will allow me to spray Acrylics over the top. I have an Airbrush, but will use rattle can if I need to. Also, if there is a high fill and a low fill, that would be great to know also. Thank you

My Son's 78 Chevy 4X4

Looks good, at 15 he is way better than many adults. Great work. Heck I would be proud of those if they were mine, very nice work. -
Square body Chevy/GMC need help.
Oldmopars replied to 426 pack's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
BTW, if you do go with the Olds 5.7L diesel, make sure you get the engine and the trans from an Olds kit, the trans would be a THM350 with a BOP bolt pattern, not the Chevy bolt pattern for the bell housing. The one on the right is BOP (Buick/Olds/Pontiac/Cad) -
Square body Chevy/GMC need help.
Oldmopars replied to 426 pack's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have been thinking about doing a 5.7L Diesel truck. I owned a 77 Chevy that I put a 5.7L DX into. At one point I had 6 Olds 5.7L diesels in my garage. I even had a ultra rare 4.3L V6 Olds Diesel. These came in the Olds Cutlass Sierra and the other GM midsize cars. 84-85. The cars had tons of power but handled so bad that for 85 they put an aluminum hood on to try to reduce the weight on the frontend. I was transplanting one into an Isuzu Trooper. I was a BIG Olds 5.7L nut for a while. Good engine if you got the later DX block. -
Very nice, I love this look and yours turned out great

65 Chevy Shcool Bus
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Well I did it, I removed 2 windows from the body and shortened the chassis to match. I think it looks better. I also mocked up the stock 350 in the chassis. -
65 Chevy Shcool Bus
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I had read on a web page that the Arii Bonnet bus was 1/25 scale and miss labeled as 1/32. No so, however if you look at the Resin buses that are being made, they all use the Arii Bonnet bus as the base for the resin body, and just stuff a Ford/Chevy/you pick frontend on it. I did not want to pay $70 for someone else's idea, I wanted a 65 Chevy bus. In the future, I will build another one, I will buy 2 and widen the body by cutting 2 part and using the 2 larger halves to make it wider. I may also do something to make it taller. But for now, this is my first attempt at using this bus body and I think it is going to turn out pretty good for a special ed style bus. Right now I am leaning toward shortening it, paint it School Bus Yellow, weathering it with some rust and dropping it down on some cool custom wheels. -
65 Chevy Shcool Bus
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
So, this is kind of the plan for this bus. I wanted to do a smaller bus, the kind that would be used by a small district or by the special kids. However, I am not sure if I should shorten it or not. Here is the inspiration: As you can see, it is a standard 1 ton truck, not the C60 (no wide fenders, tall grill). The window on this one is a bit goofy, but the rest of it is the idea I am after. So, do I shorten it, or leave it as is? I kind of like the weathered/patina yellow, I might copy that. I can see I need to get some different wheels and tires, the kit ones just do not have the look as is. It may also help it feel more 1/25 as apposed to 1/32. -
If all you need is the rear axle, check this out, just a Dana 60 rear axle. This was used in 1 ton trucks, or was an option. For a 72, an Eaton or even a Corp. 14 bolt might be more accurate, but the Dana 60 was also very common in the 1 ton trucks. My 85 K30 Cab and chassis has a Dana 70, but looks almost the same. The standard 1 ton (C/K 30) in the 73-87 was most often a Dana 60 for dual, or Corp 14 bolt for single rear wheel. http://www.b-n-lresins.com/shoppingopencart/Aftermarket-resin-cast-1-24-1-25-scale-model-drive-train-brake-rotors-transfer-case-transmission-rear-ends/Aftermarket-resin-cast-1-24-1-25-scale-model-drive-train-rear-ends-custom-unique-Dodge-Ford-Dana-Chevy/Aftermarket-resin-cast-1-24-1-25-scale-model-model-Dana-60-HD-Axle-Cover

DON"T use the 77 GMC Wrecker, that kit is total garbage! the chassis is basically a curb side, engine molded in, the frame is trash, the rear end is ok, but the front is a I beam style that was never offered on any C/K30 GM truck. The rear wheels look like really deep dish wheels, not dually's. Don't waste your time. I have this kit, I wanted to use it to build a 1 ton 85 Chevy dually, but the only thing I can use is the tires. I would have been better off buying the tire somewhere else. The better kit to use is the Deserter/Fall Guy truck. It has 3/4-1 ton axles, good frame, full engine and the body is way better than the Wrecker. I have that one also, it is the donor for my K30 Rescue truck, very nice kit.

I have bee wanting to build a school bus now for a while. I found the Bonnet bus is the right size for what I am wanting to do. I love the 65 Chevy body style and wanted to do this conversion. I found the 65 Chevy is a perfect fit for the Bonnet Bus. Almost like they were made for each other. It was a curbside, so I cut out the engine/trans area and I am going to install a stock 350. The windshield is going to be easier than I had expected. so, here it is.

I am wondering if anyone has made a Peugeot 403, prefer a convertible, but will work with anything. They were made from mid 50' to early 60's. It was the car Columbo drives in the TV series. If anyone has a lead on a 1:25 or 1:24 scale car, let me know. Heller did a 1:43, but that is too small for me.

School Bus Anyone??
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, thanks. That is where I got the idea. I still think these are 1/32 or some odd ball in-between, not 1/25 like he said. But, to make a older smaller bus, they work great. -

I love it, that hippy bus is great, just what I was thinking. I am torn between a hippy bus, stock old schoolie, or maybe shorten it and make a hod rod bus. We'll see. I know the Bonnet bus is supposed to be 1/32 scale, but it is the right size when paired with an older truck in 1/25 scale. It works well as a small bus.
