First time airbrushing and using alclad

Not bad for the first time. It does look heavy on the buildup, when I make multiple passes thats what mine looks like. if I can keep it moving I generally get the best result. -

Chris, I dont know which color was used, in the color guide ALC-117 dull aluminum looks really close. Have you thought of using testors Dullcote, to help knock down the shine? -
Carburetor Detail
my80malibu replied to RadialDragon's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
This picture shows how a typical fuel line setup might be done. This was carefullly hand drilled Plastruct hexagon rod pinned to the carbs then a fuel block "not shown"was fabricated followed by some rubber elastic to simulate hose. -

Chris I like the Engine. However I feel the block color has to much shine too it. In the photos with the fire extinguisher mock-up, the block appears duller in tone more natural. -
I dunno if the air is clean in your County. Do you want to pay for someone else's dirty air problem. Most likely not. The Majority of people in Arizona seem to be Retirees, who dont want or can't to pay for anything.I dont want to get in to the Root Politics of the problem.

To Clarify, Rancher Brown is free to drive around the State of Arizona all he wants. His truck is legally registered in Gnat-bite County, However if he decides to take residence in Maricopa County or Pima with his 1977 chevy pickup, He then must register it in Maricopa County or Pima and have it pass an Emission test. Once again it has to do with population, and region, in Phoenix we live in a Bowl, aka the Valley of the Sun. We have a huge problem with pollution, especially during the winter months. Like Mike says, if he was stopped here in Maricopa for some reason the officer most likely would not ticket, if his residence is outside of the containment area because Rancher Brown is just a visitor.

What's your build percentage?
my80malibu replied to hotrod4ever's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My build percentage is good, My completion percentage however is low. My idea level is High, and follows my project starting percentage. My wife's fustration level with Me is at an all time high.My understanding level of that is very low. -
she cleaned up real good.

Bill the two counties in Arizona doing an Emission testing program are Maricopa, which is the metro Phoenix areas, and Pima, which is the Tucson area. It is based on the population, and region. By using guidelines from the Federal Government. Many people who own land outside of the county, or knows a relative/ friend outside of the county. Have in the past used those addresses to circumvent the law, when there is an issue with passing an Emission test. The State issues a registration tag that is different in color, for that reason, Owners who drive into the Containment area with one of those vehicles can be ticketed for that offense.

At this point Dan could get Antique status on the Malibu, and Himself LOL.That is 25 years from manufactured year, you still need to keep the emissions equipment working, and original though. The only option to Avoid the Emission test Legally in Maricopa county is to get the Insurance company to list the vehicle as Receational use only. This allows you to modify/alter emissions devices to the vehicle, but strictly limits your use, allowing only 4000 miles per year. Mark, Vehicles prior to1966 is the cutoff for emissions in the State of Arizona. Vehicles after 1975 are required to have functioning emissions system to be considerd legal for use in the county containment area.

No unfortunatly not, it was the testors Limefire enamel a very runny slow drying paint. I had to strip it 3 times before I got it right. -

Looking Good, and strikingly familiar. -
Great start.

I agree Good start, Next time paint the Distributor cap Black, Tan, light blue, or Red.Pull the spark plug wires down closer to the cap, they usually drape down near the cap, on real cars form the heat under the hood. Then use the wire looms to route the wires away from the Exhaust manifolds, so they wont touch, On most GM cars they are at the rear and attach to the plugs from underneath of the manifold. Then at the Electronics store they have small Diodes, These look like an Inline fuel filter when painted silver, slip some of the leftover boot material from the wires on each end, and it looks like short rubber fuel line. If the carburetor is chromed strip it and Paint it a greenish gold color, my favorite is Testors "Jet Exhaust" that color appears close to the colors when they are factory rebuilt. Hope that helps
