Great build Charlie. I, too, have at least one of those kits on my shelf. I DID see a few of the prepainted models at shows and I think that's what took the wind out of my sails to build one. I did build the Z28 though. They are both really nice kits.

I guess I should weigh in here as, obviously, I was involved in the Dream Cruise. I believe the Cruise should stay on the HH board as it has become quite a tradition there and so many people look forward to it. I have no malice whatsoever towards the the HH Board, Tom Carter, or anyone who participates on the board. There are many people who post there who I consider friends and great modellers. Naturally, with any very large group of people, there are always going to be a few who fall into the same category as the south end of a horse. Let them keep the tradition of the Dream Cruise. And, let them keep the name of the award, if they so desire. (For the record, I left the decision of whether to keep the "Woddington" name on the trophies, up to John because the Cruise was "his baby" from the beginning.) Should John, or anyone else, decide to change the name of the award on the HH board in the future, that would be fine with me also. How about a completely separate event on THIS forum,,,,perhaps a Spring Thaw Cruise around the first weekend of March. Many people do much of their building over the winter months anyway and their new builds could be announced to the world HERE. Just my two pennies.

I'm not new, but I'm new here.
Lyle Willits replied to Daniel Peterson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dan Peterson is here? Okay, that's it. I'm leaving here too! (Now all of you who have never met me in your life can critisize my character, personality and my, obviously, dry sense of humor) JUST KIDDING, OF COURSE. Welcome Dan! For those who don't know, Dan is a very talented builder and his mini-me offspring can build a mean model also. And,,,,I may have to walk the M.A.M.A. plank for this,,,,,,,,Dan is now producing, each month, an amazing model club newsletter that is virtually, car magazine quality, for the Central Pennsylvania Model Car Club. Welcome aboard, Dan. Gee, I hope they don't think we're in a clique! -
Not new to the hobby, just new here
Lyle Willits replied to VW Dave's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Welcome aboard Dave. Wow, you have a last name!!! Imagaine that. After we had lunch at NNL EAST, my wife said "they seem like a nice couple - what's their name?" I said"uh,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, -
Actually, I've had that expanded aluminum mesh for about 20 years. It originally was a 6X8 inch sheet, that was given to me by a military modeller who I worked with. I've just about used it up - in fact, this may be the last model because I just have a few small pieces left. HOWEVER, I think you may find what you're looking for from Model Car Garage. They have several photoetched mesh patterns to choose from. http://www.modelcargarage.com/ Click on "Street Rod Grilles" Also, you can find several fine mesh sheets in some craft stores, such as, Michaels, if you have those stores in your area.

Ted "Chopper" Lear became a MAMA member today by attending a meeting. He came all the way from Tennessee,,,or Kentucky,,,,,uh, one of those "ya'll" states. Of course, he brought along a ton of cool cars. Bill Stillwagon is up to his normal, cool tricks. Harold Bradford's (Historic Racing Miniatures) forthcoming, complete resin Cheetah kit. A bunch more pics are just a click away. http://public.fotki.com/mamaprez/model_clu...eeting_7152006/

'66 GTO reissue from Revell. Paint is Tamiya Mica Red and Duplicolor Universal Black with a couple coats of Tamiya clear pearl. Scratchbuilt hood scoop. Expanded aluminum mesh in grilles and bumper. Moved turn signals into lower bumper. Made a new tail panel and used the same aluminum mesh. Wheels are Pegasus Hellas, painted semi-gloss black with red anodized wire spokes added,,,,,,,,just to make them different from every other set of Hellas I've used. Engine is the kit 389 with the old blower setup from the AMT '57 Chevy, modified and smoothed and a bunch of scratchbuilt stuff added.

So...here's where everyone is!
Lyle Willits replied to Matt T.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's really nice here, Matt. No trolls, no one constantly argueing, all the posts are actually about the MODEL CAR HOBBY (!) and, so far, there are not 38 people saying prayers for someone's grandmother,s neighbor's nephew who is having a bunyunectomy tomorrow. Welcome aboard. -

I built this as an excuse to use the resin 429 Ford engine from Replicas & Miniatures Co. of Md. Couldn't use the supplied headers because of frame clearance so I used the headers from the AMT Phantom Vickie. Also used the Vickie wheels. The air cleaners are from a '62 BelAir kit. The "fabric" roof insert was cut from an AMT '34 Ford. The grille shell supports are actually photoetched truck bed rails, also from Reps & Mins.

Great lookin tub, man. The heat coloration on the headers is awesome. Did you hand paint the eyeball on the shift knob? I'd love to do that on a Deuce roadster I'm workin on. Yep. Started with a white ball-head pin. The "iris" is Tamiya clear blue with a black dot for the "pupil" and the veins are Polly Scale red, then the whole thing cleared with Tamiya Clear. All the painting is done with the tip of a toothpick.
-
I was building this at the same time I was finishing the '39 Chevy Wagon. A Revell roadster cowl was grafted to an AMT pheaton body. Paint is Tamiya candy lime green. Parts came from lots of kits and some resin here and there. Interior panels were scratchbuilt with Speedwagon seats and green detail wire piping.

Modelers glue to recommend
Lyle Willits replied to sparkyd31's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For gluing clear plastics you must use a water-based white glue, such as Elmer's or Krystal Klear , found in hobby shops. You can also use 5-minute epoxy which dries clear. In either case, apply the glue sparingly. I usually apply it with a toothpick or very small, thin brush. I also use white glue to apply photoetched pieces. In the 10 years that I've used photoetched parts, I've never had any piece fall off. If you do slop the white glue somewhere on the model where you don't want it to be, simply dampen a Q-Tip and wipe it off. -
It's the Monogram Sedan Delivery. I cut out the rear windows and lengthend the doors 3 scale inches and slanted the B pillers forward. Scratchbuilt interior panels, PT Cruiser seats, hinged the upper and lower tailgate panels and hinged the hood.
