Bill, At my age, I have used up most of my original ideas. Here's the direct inspiration for the model, although I am not exactly copying this car. The model will have the stock "gold" inserts in the side spears. I found some very thin, gold foil paper squares for people who make homemade candies. It can be applied with Krystal Klear. I'll take pictures of that process for anyone else who wants to do a '57 Ford. Thanks for the compliments.

How to paint Hot Rod flames, my way.
Lyle Willits replied to Brian Nehring's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I usually use a very fine brush and Polly-Scale paints for outlining flames. It's water-based paint, so if you make a boo boo, just clean up the line with the tip of a #11 blade, after the outline paint has dried. I outlined this Revell diecast with Polly-scale orange These flames are shadowed rather than pinstriped, again with Polly-Scale blue paint. Some of our lysdexic club members asked me if these were waves,,,they just couldn't see the flames. -
FANTASTIC. This is going to be another killer car.

Being a Chevelle nut, I just love this one. Great job. Beautiful paint. You may have gotten the resin hood from Perry's Resin

Still much work to do in the interior, but it's coming along. The 'buttons" are Tamiya clear red applied with the tip of a toothpick. Some of the "buttons" need to be fine tuned. The piping is elastic cord used for beading (my wife is into jewlery-making). The shifter plate is made from sheet plastic and "chromed" with Bare Metal Foil. The shifter is a painted ball-head pin. The Cardinal Red paint is polished out. In the photo, there appears to be lumps all over the paint, but in reality, it is smooth and there are no lumps! I think my camera got confused by the red on black backround. The boot is scratchbuilt from sheet plastic and putty and painted Tamiya Pearl White as is the rest of the interior panels. The boot will have red snaps. That's it for now, kids.

FORUM NAME TAG
Lyle Willits replied to Lyle Willits's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
GREGG,,,,,that obviously looks a hell of a lot better than mine. If I could do better, I'd put out my own magazine. Looks like we should all copy your OFFICIAL name tag. Thanks -
W.I.P. - '57 Ford convertible mild custom
Lyle Willits replied to Lyle Willits's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks. The interior will be pearl white with red buttons in a diamond pattern on each seat section. -
Rocker panel trim made from sheet plastic. I still have to add some detail to those pieces. The interior is being pieced together using the diamond pleated interior from an AMT '62 ( I think) Pontiac kit. I don't have that kit, but I got the interior from Irv Arter. THANKS IRV! Wheels are from AMT '66 Riviera with the center portions painted. The car will be Duplicolor Cardinal Red, although my wife insists that I call it Red Socks red. The tires are from a Revell '40 Ford kit, with the whitewall inserts painted Polly-Scale flat white, to take away the "white plastic" look. Front seat back was split and filler pieces made. I still have to make the convertible doglegs and the boot. I spent the morning flocking my dog!

Let's just say I have socks older than Casey,,,,,and yes, I have washed them a couple of times since he was born. I'm about 10 years older than my wife, Katie. -
If Gregg approves (and ya'll like it), all you have to do is copy it to your hardrive and print it. If I did it right, it should print out to fit a standard (3 1/2 X 2 1/4 clear plastic name tag holder. Or print it to whatever size you like.

Trumpeters 1978 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Landau Coupe
Lyle Willits replied to PeterLepold's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Love the interior and engine work. You are doing a fantastic job with a kit that needs a lot of help. -
Thanks guys. The kit is excellent, in my opinion. Everything fits exactly as it should. I had no trouble with the hood at all. I glued the hinges to the bottom of the hood and let them dry thoroughly, then just held the hood flush, in it's down postion and trapped the hinges with the ,,,uh,,,,hinge holder thingie. The Metalspecks paint was applied over Duplicolor Sandable Primer, which I use on EVERY model, regardless of what brand paint I'm using. On the "new" Revell plastic, I very lightly dust on the primer, several times, then lightly sand the body. I find no crazing after that. This model then got a base coat of Duplicolor metallic silver, then the Metalspecks orange. I actually bought this paint as a cool street rod color, but after testing it on a scap body, it looked very close to the Corvette color, although the specks are kind of overwhelming in direct sunlight. Thanks again for the nice comments. Anna appreciates them too.

This is Anna Astadyfer's new Vette. Actually, it's a very low mileage '05 that was fully detailed for her. It looks a lot like the Revell model kit Corvette painted in Duplicolor MetalSpecks orange, which looks real close to Daytona Sunburst. Anna didn't want aftermarket wheels. She wanted the original polished aluminum rims. Engine is stock, right down to the coolant in the reservior and the oil dipstick. The detail shop gave Anna a model kit, but everyone knows that girls don't build model cars!

Yeah, Lloyd built one with a top too. After it was done, I wished I had used an ElCamino front bumper because of the clunky bumper guards. Oh well!

Oddly enough, I bought 5 of these kits when they first came out, and have yet to actually do a Z-16. Instead, I converted one to an L79 SS convertible. In the real world, this was a fast machine before Chevy squeezed in a big block. At the time, I couldn't find a suitable boot, so I scratchbuilt one and the associated side doglegs. The engine and wheel covers came from an AMT '66 Nova. It has a complete Model Car Garage photoetch set, except I kept the kit grille. This car was featured in Plastic Fanatic, #50, the forunner to the great MCM we have now. Hey Tom K.,,,,,isn't it cool how we all hijacked your original post?
