  1. Why is after somethings gone it's missed?? It's Very COOL looking 40 Merc-The top is very 40 looking but hose fenders are awe so swoopy! Nice color too!!
  2. Have any of you guys tried REAL RUST washes? Some Real rust finely ground up and some water does great in a pinch. Various stages of rust really helps too.I've used the sopisticated system and have had great results with it also.I can't post pics here because I don't have a Fotki or photobucket account-But you can see some of my builds @ HUBGARAGE.com in Ray'sRadicalMind Garage there or on SAE's photo shots. Good Luck VwDave

Man,I'm sorry I have'nt got back to ya. You know the old saying like a one legged man at an azz kicking party-well that been me of late. I've been so busy I can't pay attention. Sorry again Ray-Happy New Years!!!

  4. Thanks, I'll check it out!
  5. Yea,the owner told me that one of differences on a 53 was the vents.GMC didn't have to cchange much back in those dayz -people just bought the vehicles because they where cool.I've got see if I can still get some of those 50 kits.
  6. Did or does anybody make a 1953GMC 1/2ton truck model or resin kit?
  7. Hey,just wanted to say Nice Build & Thanks for giving me the idea to go with a Blck Paint insteed of Burgandy. Looks Great in Black makes the Decal's POP!
  8. Tim,I've been a fan of your builds for many years. I,remember the first time I saw your Impala in the magazines and was just Blown away! Now I have a better understanding of why your so good.Pat's a person I've learned from also by following his articles in SAE and a couple of his books. But I've never been fortunate enough to have met him. How can I see your newest builds that you say you've topped the Impala with??
  9. Andy,I seen your build's and have been a fan of your stuff for 20years or more. Your one of the original NNL Guys! Always liked your Backwards cars! Seen one at the first TOLEDO show I went too.
  10. Matt,I think that's why I'm enjoying building more because I don't have the judges to deal with-Just the comments of my peer's. And yes it's all about haveing FUN!
  11. That's a VERY SHARP Body and Color looks KILLER! Good Job!
  12. Ratrod I totally agree about the Primer's and thinning. A little more and Multi-coats.
  13. White primer is just White-in a can and the gray works too. Gray Might make lighter colors a little harder to get coverage, which brings up a good point that I didn't touch on coats-how many? Depends on color of nail polish(light or dark, useually about 2too3 coats is all it takes. This is something that you just have to test.
  14. It turned out Really Great! Like the color and the wheels. Good Job!-makes me want to get mine out(if I can find it) and finish it.
  15. When I got back into model building again, back in the early 80's. I was green and had a lot to learn about being a COMPLETE MODELER. First and foremost you must learn to build for yourself(what makes you happy). It doesn't matter what other's think so long as your Happy with your work.EXAMPLE:the first real model contest I entered a Pink Nail polish painted PORCHE944 ragtop with pink painted wheels.Well it didn't place but,I got a lot of compliments on the wheels. Then second, be open minded-What I mean by this is don't be closed to new idea's. EXAMPLE:I was strictly a CHEVYGUY when I got back into the hobby, now I love all kinds of Motor Vehicles and makes. It has made for "goodtimes" as for going to Carshow's, soo much more ENJOYABLE and guy's like nothing more than too brag about their ridez. Third: do the research and get as much reference materials as possible. Example: I seen a Rat Truck on the HUB of a 1942Chevy,since I had the kit-I thought I'd like to try and build one of it. So I Private messaged the owner and ask if he had anymore photo's of it besides the two posted (he sent me a half dozen).Well,I just posted pics of the done model the other day and got in touch with him and asked if he'd check it out and give me his thoughts. He came over and Commented on each photo and told me that it looked exactly like his truck and was very pleased with result's.This is probably the HIGHEST COMPLIMENT I could have ever gotten.(better than any trophy). My point is-if at first you don't succeed try, try, again there's a lot of truth to that statement. And last but not least: if you don't have something positive to say about someones work-"DON'T" say a word-Thing's go better with HAPPINESS!!!! P.S. Thanks Greg&All involved for this site! it's a great place to come to!!!
  16. Gary, I've been painting with Nail polish for years-in fact it's one of my Fav's. Thinning goes 2to1 ratio. Two parts thinner to one part paint. I use PPG-DTL876 thinner. And I use a good automotive primer(peferablly white). Depending upon the color your gonna use, your suppose to put a close matching basecoat color down. Myself I just laydown a base of white primer. You said you where going to use a Blue-I've painted with Blue polish before and had GREAT results. Also,I mix my paint with about a 1/4 of clear nail polish(still using the 2/1 ratio) and the shine just about Knock's ya over! I,usually let my paint gas-out at least a week or more, even after using the dehydrator. Good luck and you can checkout my work at HUBGARAGE.com in Ray's RadicalMind garage-case sensetive so must be typed like you see it here.
  17. I,remember when the real car was on the cover of HOT ROD with Scott Sullivan's CHEEZWIZ55. Wounder what ever became of that car. Would have been COOL if they would have went onto production. You did a REALLY good job capturing the cars fast look. Like everyone else said the color really POP's!!
  18. Thanks George, but no he doesn't. I really don't think anyone made that bodystyle.
  19. Terry,First off I really like the color's you've chosen. And I didn't even think to ask what kind of and how are you painting?? And as far as the dehydrator, they are just FLAT the BOMB-cuts dry time down to a couple of hours-if that!! Also I guess the Hub is case sensitive so on my original post I corrected the address But this is how it is Ray's RadicalMind garage, then a few photo's will pop-up and all the way to the right is a rusty59 Elcomino-click on it and should take you to my garage. Just remember to put a space between Ray's and Radical but Mind is part of Radical.(if you like the site join) then it's not such a hassle and there are alot of model guy's on there. Ok, do you have a polishing kit or really fine sand papers? If not go to MicroMark tools(think that's correct name) they sell polishing kits and pads for a great price. I would strip it myself but I'm lazy, but you could possiblly polish out the bubbles with 2400 or 3600 grit paper. I would just strip it and start over if you've got enough paint.Give some this stuff a try and check the Hub thinggy out but remember the Humidity thing, look for low baro pressures. Good luck and let me know how it comes out.
  20. I live in Ohio and the Humidity is ridiculous and it's been so rainy. Have you thought or have time to paint at night when it's cooler? Plus watch the Baro-pressures,need to be low. And do you by chance have a dehydrator? They work great for speeding up dry times. I guess my only tip is to watch and wait for better weather or maybe try a little more thinner. Hope this is useful somehow. I've been doing RatRod Trucks lately and mainly have been Brush & spraying with flats so the weather hasn't messed me up too bad. You can see my stuff at HUBGARAGE.com in Ray's RadicalMind garage it's a great site for reference or just COOL ridez-You owe it to yourself to check it out. Just use the searchbox in the righthand corner.
  21. Does anybody know if anybody ever made a 1948 Chevy Fleetmaster-4door?? I don't think their's been one but thought I'd ask.
  22. Will, you've just got some advice by the BEST Model Builder's there are. Use it,it's sound advice! But,you sound like your intimidated by try new things. You don't become a master builder overnight,it takes years of trial&error too get a system down that's comfortable to you. Read some of How-to books also helps, give suggestions to start with. Good Luck with your project and if something goes wrong try and figure out what it was and learn from your mistakes.
  23. HEY EVERYONE! I got the effect I was looking for another way. Thought I would pass the along,I put some GEL SUPER Glue on the top and around the top of the door. Let dry totally and because it was a gel I was able to manipulate it to appear like dimple's.Ken,Harry& Everyone else Thanks for the HELP&Keep this superglue thing in mind. You can see my progress at HUB Garage.com in Ray'sRadicalMind Garage.IF you drop by Leave me a Note!!!
  24. Ken,THANKS so much for getting back to me! Between what Harry, yourself and the other post,I think I've figured out how to do it. And lots of patience,I'd forgot about your destressed metal artical. Thanks Again EveryOne!!,Ray
