Allison Charger - pics replaced - more work soon
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Some more chassis work. Got my front/rear roll bars in place (braces and supports in progress), tranny hump and brackets for the steering. There's not a lot of reference photos for a car like this so I'm winging a lot of it. Still got to figure how something like this runs through the gears. I've got no idea what sort of tranny is on it. -

Well those are some mighty fine ideas. Let me just take a moment to add some thoughts on this years theme. In my opinion, this should be your last resort. Lets face it a faded '68 Charger with dog dish hubcaps isn't gonna fool anyone. Same goes for Camaros, Challengers, GTOs, Mustangs, etc etc. You are gonna really have to pull out all the stops if you are going to try one of these. Think about the Joe Dirt Daytona. That is the level of trashiness your gonna have to reach to pull it off. Having said all that, there are a LOT of options left. Frankly if the paint was old and faded with bad chrome, Erik's Riviera would have been a great sleeper. Same with Zenrat's Skyhawk. Lots of possibilities. My recommendation is to do an Ebay search for a lot of the odd ball AMT and MPC offerings from the 60's and 70's and 80's. He's my plan. Like I said, an oddball from AMT. I asked a friend if he had any Pacers in his collection for trade. He said he did. I was expecting the recently re-released Pacer X. Much to my surprise and happiness he showed up with a wagon. My plan is a retro-tuner. A twin turbo 2JZ powered AMC. I believe the kit depicts a 1977 model.

I'm not really going for a period piece. Just something wild. The engine hangs very low in the chassis, so the ride height is a matter of necessity. If I raise the engine it no longer fits under the body. Leaf springs were the easiest to engineer with the parts I had on hand. Thanks for you input though, much appreciated. -
i will be absent until i can get ahold of my self...

I agree 100%. -
Okay here's my WIP thread for this project, take 2. I'm using the Revell '67 Charger body/chromy bits/glass. The engine and a few random parts from the AMT Allison Thunderland Thunderbird kit. The rest is from the parts bins or scratch-built. Here's what I have so far. There' been quite a bit of trial and error to get the stance and wheelbase squared away. I'm still up in the air on decals/graphics for this project. So if anyone has any suggestions I'm all years. Planning on Inca gold for the color. Let me know whatcha think.

Anybody tried Bondic yet?

I've seen some videos on it. It's some sort of liquid plastic that only hardens under a UV light. Looks interesting. -
Fred. Knock it off. You're giving away all my ideas.

For things like door seams, cowl vents and such, this is a great idea. But the way you used it inside the body lines doesn't look like a shadow or reflection, it looks like a painted pin stripe. A good gloss will give you the visual impact you are looking for in this case. However, your work on the dash makes a lot of sense and looks real good.

Wagonmaster mentioned Jan 1, I believe.

Painting during construction
Jantrix replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It depends. If you are doing mods that require copious test fittings during the build then do it last. If it's is a fairly straight forward build then do it when it's convenient. -
On the bright side here in Tampa, next years draft is looking good!!
