  1. What about extra downforce in the front of the vehicle? The one online reference I found for the "why's and wherefores of drifting" suggested it.
  2. Since drift racing is apparently done on fairly small tracks and the speeds aren't as fast as other types of track racing, how important would an aero kit be to a drift car? In my research I see a lot of cars with them and some without. But in reality, is it a necessity? Any help woulda be appreciated.
  3. I love the wobbly wheels on the Chevelle.
  4. Wow. That's some nice work.
  5. I like that a lot. Very cool graphics and paint choices. And you can't go wrong with a '67 Charger. Very nice work.

Holy cow! That is top notch work. If you hadn't shown it unfinished, I would have bet money it was a printed vinyl decal.
  7. Guys, the whole story is a farce anyway. http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/12/showbiz/music/robert-plant-led-zeppelin-richard-branson/
  8. Sorry man. If time has taught me anything, our expectations of people will continuously be unrealized. Having said that, there are very few people at the top of this hobby that aren't proficient at what they are doing. I suspect from your post that a person has irked you more than once with some technical/mechanical issue. Maybe at contests. People will always do what works for them, whether it's cutting off the tops of tires to get the car lower, or bringing the same models to contest over and over. As Bill said above, "But we're dealing with humans, only partially evolved sentient creatures, who are a long long way from being "ideal".
  9. I build in sections. I usually start by determining any fitment issues, by assembling the bare body, glass, interior, chassis, engine with tape. And try to see what problems lie ahead. Nothing sucks like finding a fitment issue at final assembly. Then the chassis parts are cleaned up, painted, assembled. Then the engine. Then the interior. Finally the body. As each assembly is completed, the test fitting continues. Paint does add to the size of a part, and as we've all seen (with hoods especially), what fits like a glove in bare plastic, doesn't fit at all when painted.
  10. From my time competing at local shows and my time on the forums over the last 12 years or so, I've never had any builder complain of this, and I've met some of the "well known" guys. I don't think this is the sort of hobby for that sort of mindset. Very few of us build models for anything except the pleasure of doing so. And if they want to build something box stock, or build something super detailed and museum quality, they do so for their own gratification. This is a pretty simple question folks, I'm not sure why everyone is jumping on Jon's case about it.
  11. I Agree, although it's a shame to alter the wood areas too much.
  12. FYI. The completed builds thread is being moved to the Under Glass section. Get your completed builds posted soon.
  13. Well Skip, my intent wasn't to start thread 1,245 on the subject of criticism. That horse is long dead. The thread was about what we can do about a poor reputation amongst people that tried this forum, and got treated poorly. Which may be a larger of number of people than I think we realize. If you don't care about that, that's cool. I happen to. Lets check out this example from this very thread. Now we all know that the first guy, meant no offense at all. But because this is written correspondence, there is no smile, no body language or tone of voice to tell the second person that he is merely joking. So the second person gets offended. So again, what we can do about a poor reputation amongst people that tried this forum, and got treated poorly. Whether is was intentional or not? Maybe the answer is to just put more thought into whatever we write here.
  14. Looking forward to that one. Nice show, great club.
  15. I'm a member of a local club. A small bunch of guys. Also an internet club, much larger, formerly of the Lay it Low forum, who now are using Facebook as their means of socialization. Last year, I invited both clubs to participate in the Cannonball CBP here on MCM. From both groups, I got a lot of, "I don't know, I've had a bad experience with those jerks." I have also noticed this while talking to guys at swap meets and contests. Also Scale-Master mentioned he's had the same responses from people, on page 2 of this thread.
  16. That is very sharp. Fantastic work.
  17. Quite Agree. Thanks to all those excellent folks who served, and those that supported them. Rob Mattis 2nd Class Petty Officer - U.S. Coast Guard '91-'01 Staff Sergeant - Florida Air National Guard '01- '04
  18. I want to chime in on this thought. Don't do this. More than the criticism issue, to have your work ignored or have no comments either way is 10x worse than a critique. More than anything it fosters the elitist reputation, because people leave thinking, "I guess my work wasn't worthy of their time or effort". That's the comment I got more than any from my club members. The "if you can't say something nice, say nothing at all" mantra that many use, is a huge confidence crusher. He was referring to my model club members that I mentioned in my original post.
  19. Revell '67 Charger with parts to make it a '66.
  20. Thats fine by me, however should life get in the way, give me a shout and I'll help out as needed.
  21. I was planning on running it, but if you'd like to do it, I've no objection, but we really need someone to run it who will be actively involved for the whole year. If you think you can do that, then by all means give it a shot.
  22. The 1st Gen Chargers are my favorite cars of all time. So I'd like every kit that featured one. And I built and loved this kit as a kid, my first try at BMF, and I loved it. It was stolen in a move along with a dozen or so other builds from my youth. I want another.
  23. Okay. Nicks original rules. It says multiple entries allowed in the build off. He did not stipulate the rules for the winners poll. Because of this we'll allow multiple entries in the poll. I'm not happy about it, but as you say, I can change it next year.
  24. Excellent. Congrats.
  25. Howdy. If you entered the 2014 Cannonball CBP, and wish to compete in the winners poll, which takes the place of the actual race, please post them here. You have until the deadline of 12am, Dec 1st. LIMIT 5 pics. Guys you have three weeks to get these done. SO GET SOME GOOD PICS. This will be judged by your fellow builders, and they can only judge what they see. If you have lousy, blurry, too far away, too dark, busy background photos, it won't matter if its the best model ever built. Outdoor photos, with a plain background, with a digital camera using the macro function seem to yield decent results. There are also tutorials on Youtube. NOTE: This thread is for finished photos only. When it comes time for voting it will go easier if we don't have to swim through pages of "Great Job" posts. Please post that sort of stuff in the original build thread here, http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=83124&hl=. Thanks very much. And good luck to all racers.
