  1. Very nice! This can be a tough kit and you did it real well. More pics!
  2. Welcome back to the hobby.
  3. I think a person who is a perfectionist will be ultimately unhappy with this hobby, period. I think you did a great job that would not look out of place on any contest table. Well done.
  4. I've had no problems with the moderators doing what they do or how they do it. I don't kick the hornets nest so I don't get them stirred up. I build models, I talk about models, I post models. No issues with mods. Seems like an easy recipe. I learned a while back that is easier to just not reply when someone says something that gets me riled. I used to really go off on someone acting like an idiot on the forums until I realized I was just giving them what they wanted - more attention. I'm sorry things have gotten bad enough that Gregg is considering throwing in the towel. It's a sad statement in itself when you consider 95% of members are grown adults, aged 30+.
  5. This is very original and I appreciate that above all things. Looking forward to more.
  6. I have several 1/24 Mongram kits, and most suffer from the same ailment, the engines are too small. If I resto-mod the '53 I'll use the small block and use the big block in the Monogram Street Fighter on my shelf which also has a terrible engine. When it comes to 1/24 kits you have to plan and organize well so that you can make sure you have the right parts set aside to fix issues with each kit. Because you have a limited parts pool.
  7. I think this kit has a lot of potential even if it is 1/24. First, I have scavenged the I-6 from it, for my 1/24 39 Chevy gasser. My plans for the rest of the kit, are to either add a sbc from a 1/24 '37 Ford kit and make a modern resto-mod or add the chassis from the 1/24 Tom Daniels Badman and the bbc from the '39 Chevy and make another gasser.
  8. My son builds, but not seriously and part of me thinks he does it mostly because I do and likes to have this in common. My wife had tried a couple times, is also such a perfectionist she never gets past the clean up stage.
  9. Rich, you do fine work. Congratulations on the win.
  10. I just don't worry about it frankly. Compared to other hobbies, this hobby is incredibly cheap. My wife realizes this so I spend what I want, but having said that, almost none of my builds has more than $50-60 invested. I've learned to use cheaper materials that keep my aftermarkets costs way down. Also any model that I do spend more money on is totally offset by the model I build for next to nothing from the parts bins and parted out kits.
  11. Interesting idea with the braided cord. What i would do is to soak it in a mixture of white glue and water, about 70% glue. Then while it is still wet add it to the model as you want. This is for a couple of reasons. 1. The cord will settle as though it had a great deal of weight, as a rope would. 2. It should cause it to look less fuzzy. Then I would get your weathering stuff out and make it look weather beaten.
  12. Guys, Im still slammed at work, no bench time. But I am following everyones work and hope to get back to the bench this weekend.
  13. Quite right. It's what made me go hoodless for this build.
  14. You're in Kenny. Looking forward to seeing your work.
  15. Greg, we welcome you back to the hobby. However I urge you to check out the thread shortcut in my signature line called "Walk then Run". It's something I wrote a while back to address the difficulties newer builders can have and also the opinions of a lot of like minded folks.
  16. Mission accomplished. Excellent work.
  17. Sorry to hear that Derick. I hope you have something you can salvage.
  18. Take a look at the area where you removed the b-pillar. You should smooth out that area so that you can't tell there was a pillar there. Welcome back to the hobby.
  19. Very creative and original. I will enjoy following along once again.
  20. Good work going on here guys, keep it up. I hope to start air brushing soon. I just need some ducting for my booth and my wifes aunt to pony up her unused compressor like she promised.

I dig it Zen. It's definitely got your touch. The Dark Knight Returns print is a nice touch too.
  22. You say that like its a bad thing. Seriously once its done and on the shelf I guarantee it'll become one of your favorites just because it's so off the wall.
