  1. About four hours, so far, but the NNLs in Atlanta and Birmingham would still be doable if work wasn't an issue.
  2. I don't think too much about it frankly. No matter how much I spend on a build it is a pittance compared to other hobbies I could do. However to answer your question anywhere from $0 to $50 I figure depending on the project but I buy very little aftermarket do-dads.
  3. Erik, you right , and I do build for myself, but I do enjoy competing. But when I go to a contest with just six or seven catagories, my post-apoc or deathracer type builds get sort of ignored because there isn't a miscellaneous catagory. Or if there is one, there is so much in there because of the very few catagories available, the misc. catagory gets flooded. Oh well, I'm going to have all new stuff for the shows this coming fall, so I guess it doesn't matter too much. Ira, Luna and the rest, thanks very much for the ata-boys. This was a lot of fun to build. I've alwasy wanted to do a movie car, but it had to be something off the wall that no one had done yet. I caught Cherry 2000 on the late movie one night and I just HAD to try it. I was making a list of donor kits before the movie was even over. I bought the film so I could see it from every angle (including underneath) frame by frame.
  4. Mike, that's the best you can expect with dull coat. It kills the shine and the color. It's not very appealing to me. I use it over chrome I want to look weathered. To me it looks just like any rattle can silver.
  5. I have re-popped this thread to ask for some advice. I'm having difficulty with this model at shows. If there is a miscellaneous class, it does pretty well, two 1st place trophies so far. Without one, when I have to put it in a street machine class the judges hardly glance at it. I set a pic from the movie down next to it so they know it's a replica, but no dice. What can I do to make this model stand out against the shiny ones. I'm not a fan of the mirrored bases, but I might have to resort to that.
  6. Very nice! Great work all around.
  7. Looks like a Corvette and an Avanti were left alone together in the garage one night. Nine months later this came along.
  8. I may get inspired by a build, but almost never for the actual kit used. I may take the idea and run to some other kit.
  9. If I could recommend hitting that with some 70% isopropyl alcohol on a toothbrush. It will feather out all those rough edges and tool marks and give it a more authentic look. Then get out some washes.
  10. I'm still around. But I'm so busy with work / home my modeling time has been nixed. I've been working a little bit on older projects that are closer to done. I will be returning eventually to my GTO. I hope. How is everyone else doing?
  11. So you didn't buy it at 30% off while you were there. So you will return later with a 40% off coupon. You do realize the gas used in the return trip will negate that extra $2 you saved on the kit right?
  12. You think this is bad. Ask folks to define the difference between a hot rod or street rod. The resulting argument will create a thread that will crash the server.
  13. Never would have guessed it. I approve.
  14. I got lucky at a local show/swap meet. The Vette was won in a raffle. The Ford kit is miraculously complete for an opened and rather beat up kit, and the 25 year old decals look great.
  15. Yeah, lets not get in another terminolgy war. I define kitashing as building a model using major assemblies taken from different kits. Some clubs even hand out awards from it.
  16. Most impressive.
  17. Tim, it was excellent meeting you today at the show. Folks if you think this looks good in photos, it looks that much better in person, a fantastic piece of art.
  18. x2 another excellent suggestion.
  19. Here's my Carrera Panamericana racer. I'm still working on the livery. I should be done soon.
  20. Really Donn? Your honey-do list includes building a model, something you do for fun, and you are complaining? Man, my heart bleeds for you, you poor henpecked guy.
  21. Quite true Kevin. We have seen both sides of the criticism coin here. With no way to tell the posters, age or mental state, offering criticism is a BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH shoot unless the poster asks for it. And lets not forget using PM's for suggestions and stuff as well. It's less likely to go nuclear if the builder isn't criticized publicly.
