my take on the Revell '32 5-Window-Just a 426 Street Hemi
Jantrix replied to Nick Winter's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Yeah, because of the shape of the head and the curve of that front fender you're going to have a real chore ahead of you if you plan on making a zoomie type header fit. You see very few fendered deuces with zoomie headers because of this. I think you'de be better off just going straight down with a standard header for a hemi and then make some exhaust pipes that exit before the rear tire. The MPC 67 Charger street machine had a nice set of headers. -
AMT 1960 Starliner question
Jantrix replied to rhs856's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Okay, my bad. I looked at my kit and didn't see the linkage in the instructions (because it IS so badly done) so i thought you were adding an aftermarket PE set and wanted to know where it went. My mistake. -
Dude, if the wheels are removable I will gladly donate a set of wheels to save that excellent build. Those wheels ruin a very cool and clean build. It is my opinion so take that for what its worth. Send me a PM if I can help.

AMT 1960 Starliner question
Jantrix replied to rhs856's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Well some quick Googling and a look at the kit box, reveals that the engine was a 352 FE (Ford/Edsel) engine. According to Wiki, they are technically a y-block design. Oh wait...........yer needing shifter linkeage? Well then you're needing to find out what transmission is depicted in the kit, not what engine. As to that I have no idea. Very few kits would bother to show that in the instructions unless they offer a part to depict the shifter linkage. -
I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. These sure have been a rough couple of years. However I want to say what a deep tragedy it would be to get rid of your tools and models you have worked on. Unstarted kits, you can replace. But the stuff you've started and put some effort into would be a serious loss. I don't know what your troubles are right now, but please try to find an alternative to losing these. Maybe there is a board member that lives near you with a litle extra space in his garage. Best of luck Darren.

Are you trying to post from your home PC or from a picture album site like Photobucket? The second option works, the first ........not so much. I have never heard of Duplicolor crazing when applied over the proper primer as you apparently did. Did you wash the body of any mold release agents from the manufacturing process?

Most impressive work. Keep at it.

Yep, just use the same type as the paint you are using, for best predicatable results. I get fantastic results from Tamiya or 3M Scotch blue, and see no need to pay that crazy price for the Frog stuff. Though I am sure some people have tried it.

STILL OUT THERE: POST YOUR ROAD GOLD
Jantrix replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I spotted a 66/67 fastback Charger today at a local auto shop that usually has a little old iron in the parking lot. It was a 383 badged car and it had a LOT of rust. Nearly made me cry. And not the "it gives it character, a little patina" kind of rust. It had the "you-know-you-hit-the-cat-because-you-saw-it-as-it-passed-beneath-you" kind of rust. Darn shame how people will let the car sit in the "i'll get to it someday" section of the yard until it's no longer restorable. -

Sorry to hear that Harold. I'm glad not all the build-ups were lost. -

Chrome turned gold - Tamiya clear orange
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yeah, I sure would have. If you saw the travesty that is the Tamiya rack at my LHS, you would weep. -
Chrome turned gold - Tamiya clear orange
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Here is Tamiya Clear Orange over kit chrome. What do you think? -
Holy cow, man does that pic show off the flaws or what. It looks lots better to the naked eye, I assure you. Yeah Dave, I'm prety happy with it now.

I took at trip to Michaels today and wandered around looking at everything. I found a superthin braided gold ribbon that I think worked out tons better than the thread I was using as piping. I also picked up some gold beading pins that will be the gear shift lever and directional lever in the steering column, some clear and red rhinestones (ahhesive backed) that will be my headlight and taillight lenses. Here's the doorpanel with the new piping and the door handle/window crank just made from twisted copper wire and a brass pin head.

Oh heck yeah. I think any of us would. It's a classic body style.
-
Wow. This looks incredible. Great clean work.
-
Yeah Dom, we have a degreaser here in the states called Super Clean or Purple Power. Works great on chrome and most types of paint.
-
I'll admit also that there are some things about this build that made me go "huh?". However the end product looks great. Nice work.

Whoa! And a 1/25th Black Beauty! Oh man, it is kit bash time.
-
I gotta say that shade of yellow (butternut?) is one of my least favorite auto colors of all time. But on that one............not bad. Great rebuild tho, very authentic.

I would say that about the cars of the 80's before I would the 70's. Oh man I totally agree. I had a 75 Olds Delta 88 two door, that I miss so much.
