  1. In the past I have tried it over black lacquer paint, while it did go on o.k, I wasn't really happy with the results, this time when I was doing to wipers on the Beetle I tried it over Revell gloss black enamel, however to make it dry quicker, I thinned it with lacquer thinners, this time it turned out much better, much more like real chrome than my previous attempts.
  2. Thanks for all the comments guy's, I would have finished it ages ago if I hadn't had so many health issues over the last 3 years, but it gives me plenty of encouragement to crack on with the next model which has been staled for many years, and 1932 Chrysler Imperial.
  3. Very nice work, looks very authentic, superb detail on the engine, can't wait to see this one finished.
  4. This was started way back in Jan' 11th 2008, finally got it finished ...
  5. I bought one a few years ago, don't how I ever did without it, but I use a lot of lacquer based paints that need a good stir if they've been left sitting for a while, for the money it really is a cheap way of mixing up paint.
  6. Headlamps, front Indicators and Bumper Fitted, number plates were done frst by covering them in BMF, then using a small cotton bud, rubbed the VW logo and badge with lacquer thinners. Rear lamps were first masked off then painted body colour, then re-masked and painted clear orange, then masked again and painted clear red, because the way Tamiya moulded them as one unit, not there best idea, it would have been a lot simpler if they had made the lamp lenses as seperate parts
  7. Have a read of this .. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2011/06/17/postal-strike-friday.html
  8. Very nice build, I like the extra detail you put into the engine
  9. Very nice model, turned out very nice.
  10. Very nice, that colour really suits it, I must try this nail varnish one day, the finish looks superb.
  11. Can't believe I missed this one, that's one superb looking truck & trailer, very nice.
  12. Thanks, it should be a good match, as I had the paint mixed up, it's VW L360 Sea Blue.
  13. Done a bit more work on it over the last few days, Bumper, headlamps and front indicators have now been fitted, indicators were painted in Tamiya clear orange, the little grills under the headlamps were giving a black wash using Tamiya semi gloss black.
  14. Very nice work, I really like the way you detailed the engine compartment.
  15. There really not too bad to do, but if I was to build this kit again, I would do a few things a little different, one thing I should have done was to re-scribe the side mouldings, they didn't have a good edge to trim upto.
  16. Well since the Mini Cooper has been finished, I'm trying to get round to clearing the bench, so I can carry on with the '32 Chrysler Imperial that has been on the go for more years than I can remember, so I got to doing a bit more to the Beetle, the body & chassis are now fixed together, and the running boards have been added, now it's mostly the lights and chrome to fix on, shouldn't be too long now ...
  17. Very nice, great scratch building considering the complex shape of the Tatra, I've only ever seen a T97 in the flesh
  18. I had this very problem with my old DeVilbiss airbrush, turned out to be the diaphram in the valve had rotted away, it was made of rubber, I managed to get a new one made of teflon, should last a few more years, and it was back working perfectly again, have a look at part # 24 (Old part)and # 26 (New part) in the photo below, most airbrushes have something similar in them. Hope this helps.
  19. It's a classic lorry meet (Pre 1985) but there's also a model truck show there as well, with traders attending for the 2 days, June 11th & 12th, it's held at the herritage centre at Gaydon, I'm going to popping along on the Sunday
  20. Very nice Charger there, nice shine on the paint, what paint did you use ?? hopefully I will at Gaydon next weekend.
  21. Looking at my Fotki site, I actually modified the bodyshell and door handles back in December 14th 2007, it sat in a box until Sunday December 20th 2009 !!! Hope you enjoy the photo's, it's now in it's showcase waiting for a Fiesta Yellow Morris Cooper S to join it.
  22. There was a colour code for the BMC engine green, but each factory mixed there own and it's very usual to see different Mini's, ie Morris and Austin with a totally different looking engine green colour, but Vauxhall (GM) leaf green comes very close to the reference photo's I have.
  23. Very nice clean build.
  24. Windows were fitted using 4 minute epoxy, over the years I have tried many different glues to fixing the clear parts, but I always come back to fast setting epoxy,if care is taken, you shouldn't get any glue residue on the clear parts and the bond is very strong,if you do make a mistake and get some of the glue onto the clear parts, it can be cleaned off using methalated spirits on a cotton bud, Rear light were done slightly different to the other Mini's I have built, previously I just brush painted them using Tamiya clear acrylic's, this time I tried airbrushing them, the orange was done first, left to dry then masked up using 3mm masking tape and then airbrushing the clear red, the chome was done using chrome BMF,The front indicators were done the same way as the rear, although they didn't need masking off, the chrome was even harder to do because of the small size.
  25. Just ordered mine after reading the review in TMW magazine, hopefully I will have it a day or so, £48.49 inc shipping
