Sad Sad Sad News: Our Harry Passed Away
GeeBee replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Very sad news, RIP Harry, it was a pleasure to have known you my friend .... -
Well That's debatable .....
-
Thanks for all the comments, I hear so many bad things said about AMT kits, and as I haven't built one for many years, but this one has to be the nicest kit I've built in a long time, no real problems with parts fit, if the Plymouth Belvedere and the Edsel Pacer are as good to build as this one, I'll enjoy them just as much, I'll get the rest of the airbrushing done on the side emblems in the week, then it can go in the "Under Glass" section.
-
Well funny you should mention that, as I bought another one of these kits, firstly to use the bumpers as the ones I did in the chrome paint turned out less than shiney once the clearcoat went on, so they were in the stripper, sadly AMT mounted the rear bumper on the parts tree with the cut off's at the top of the bumper, and there quite big, so to get it to look right, it needed stripping and doing in Alclad, which I only used this time, as the K Colors process takes quite a while, and part # 64, the radiator support was missing in my original kit, in the end i used that part out of the second kit to scratchbuild another one, so I now have another 57 Chrysler 300 kit, that I didn't want to build as a 300C, after I found a link to a site in Australia and sending them a quick email to see if the kit is still available, and get an yes as an answer, it will now be built as a "New Yorker"
-
Got a bit more sone today, and apart from the 300C badges for the side, that need painting and have the 300C script fitted, this one's finished
-
Acrylic grey primer, followed by the MCW Copper brown, and then acrylic clearcoat

I must admit, I was deeply saddened by this news this morning, I never knew Harry, until he asked me to contribute to the book "Styrene Stars", and with the communications we had, I got to know Harry quite well and respected him and his work, I was hoping that the news about him would be so much better than this .....
-
MCW lacquers are PPG Duracryl, and after downloading their instruction sheets, it said the paint could either be polished, or to add a little extra deep shine, an acrylic clearcoat could be applied over it, which is what I did.
-
Got a bit more done when I got back home this afternoon, both headlamps have now been fitted, not a great deal to do to get this one finished now ....
-
Had a little time free this morning, so got the engine bay finished
-
Absolutely superb, makes me want to build the other one I have, which is still factory sealed .....
-
That's looking one fine model, looking forward seeing it finished ....
-
its just some single stage acrylic clear lacquer I got from my local bodyshop, luckily the manager is a good friend of mine, but to what brand it is, I haven't got a clue, and it was airbrushed using my Paasche VL airbrush with the #5 needle.
-
About time I got back to working on this one, so today I pulled it out, got the rear screen fitted, using the 5 minute fix, brilliant stuff, and got the body fitted onto the chassis, it didn't want to sit on the front of the chassis, but some 5 minute epoxy, a few clamps and masking tape, and it was sorted ....
-
Starting to look more like a 2cv now .....
-
Got the wheels fitted this morning, one thing I hate on any model is wonky wheels, so mine have to be completely level, After that I've dry fitted the body, roof and bonnet onto the chassis,

Superb work Jim, your detail work is 1st class .... -
Can't believe just how productive I've been this afternoon, got the inner wings fitted and the interior fitted onto the chassis, and got the engine bay all finished.
-
I thought that was the case, although I would love to build a diorama that realistic ....

I'm with you on that one, back in the early 90's I went back working for someone else, as I wanted to get a mortgage, and being self employed, it was near impossible to get one, as being a photographer, I didn't have a steady income, even though with some good commissions, I could have easily afford the mortgage payments, but the bank didn't see it like that, so I got a job at V.W, drove 89 mile to work, sat at a desk all day, unless I had to drive to other V.W dealerships, and then drive 89 mile home, and the stress levels were through the roof, I was so glad to resign after 4 years and get back to working for myself, I don't earn anything like I did at V.W, but the stress levels are near zero, the mortgage is nearly paid off, and I get to travel and do the things I want to do, there's no way in the world I would even think of a desk job ever again ....
-
It is real, that's my 1:1 car, not a model ....
-
I've got to work on some photo's later in Lightroom, work I was doing over the weekend, but even though it's 20 degrees cooler here today than Prague, where I was over the weekend, I thought it was about time I gave the Cruiser a good clean, I'm going to try to get a little bench time in later, but work has to come first ....but if I hadn't got any work to do, yes, I'd be sitting at the building bench right now.
-
The only bit I don't like about the travelling is the time spent in the air, went to Japan last year, and going again this year, just under 12 hours in the sky, and then getting to Japan and their 8 hours ahead of the U.K, it get very tiring, but worth the trip, luckily I enjoy my photography so much, I really don't class it as work, the trip to Brazil in May takes around the same as Japan, but luckily I don't need to travel down to London for the flight, so time spent in the hobby room will be a lot less this year, and won't be buying anymore model kits for a while to come, as I've got more than I'll ever build in the stash already, but come the winter, I'll be back at the bench with a fresh mind and motivation.
-
I've got quite a bit done in the hobby room today, after a trip abroad this weekend, even though it was work related, I think I just needed a break from the hobby room to get my motivation back, it looks like with the work that's coming in, this and the Chrysler might be the last models from me this year, done a little airbrushing and got the interior built up, added the decal to the cooling fan housing, and got the engine fitted,
