  1. Wow Clayton!! Thats a pretty extraordinary paint scheme there. That will certainly stand out in a crowd. Excellent paint job. Dave
  2. Thanks for the comments. Bryan, I worked from sketches and drawings that I produced from photo's and information in the makers manuals that I bought. There are no drawings made available to the public by the manufacturer, but in the manuals you do get some sectional drawings of various components. From these you can scale the overall sizes, but you have to be aware some of these are not scaled. You do spend a lot of time and effort just researching working out where this and that goes. Doug, They were certainly fitted into the WF COE. Be carefull though it is a big engine and you may need to make some modifications to get it in the frame. Watch the turbocharger system with the dog house, The oil filters were removed from the side of the engine and fitted to the frame rail near the rear spring hanger on the drivers side. The altenator and air compressor were fitted in different positions than the prototype that I built. Looking at the front of the engine. The aircon compressor was fitted at the bottom right, the altenator was fitted at the top right. Hope this helps. Dave
  3. Well I'm pleased to say the engine is now finished. Its been quite an interesting project and I did enjoy it but I'm glad its done. My part in this project is now finished. The reason I built the engine initially was because I needed a couple of engines for two 359 Pete's I wanted to build. Since there was no aftermarket engine available it had to be scratch built. Having gone to all the trouble of scratch building it would have been a shame not to get it cast. Anyone interested in getting hold of an engine needs to contact Howard at Kit Form Services. http://images114.fotki.com/v145/photos/2/1007832/9221989/IMG00597201101251210-vi.jpg http://public.fotki.com/oldalbion/project-4-14/img00597-20110125-1210.html Thanks again for all the kind words. Dave
  4. Sergey, This is going to be an exceptional build. I like all the little details that you are putting into this. I had no idea that Mack fitted the stearing gear to the axle on the Cruiseliner. Pretty unique feature. Thanks for sharing. Dave
  5. Caterpillar 3208. The 225 I believe refers to the HP. Dave
  6. Tony, When I get the engine finished and out of the way I have a couple of Cummins KTA engines that need the exhaust manifold and turbocharger to be modified/corrected. I will detail this once I get this project done. Its pretty straight forward just requires a little time and planning out. As regards to the engine it really is moving on. Almost there just some details to add and thats it. http://images57.fotki.com/v505/photos/2/1007832/9221989/011-vi.jpg Thanks for looking Dave
  7. Ben this kit certainly is outstanding! I think not only other model companies but the truck manufacturers could learn alot from this. International certainly have one up on the other makers. A brand new truck model that is turning all heads and a model kit of the very same truck available. You know whats going to happen when a young kid sees one of the real trucks on the road. "Dad can I have a model of that?" A marvellous Marketing coup. Imagine if other truck manufacturers commissioned companies like Mobius to build models of the new generation trucks. Dave
  8. Just thought I would bump this one back to the top. Dave
  9. Matthew, Any progress on this?? On another note I would be interested to know if anyone is working on 1/16 trucks, trailers or aftermarket parts? Dave
  10. Hunter, From your comments it sounds like you have put a lot of work into the planning of this project, with everything in hand. It certainly shows!! Good Luck Dave
  11. Tim, This looks superb. I think its only fitting that you should build the first test model. I like the colour it looks well with all the chrome. Nice kit. Dave
  12. Many Thanks for all the positive comments. I hope to have it finished early January. Dave
  13. I would love to see some photo's of this outside. Excellent looking truck. It looks real. Dave
  14. Hunter, Good progress, you are doing a fine job. The Revell KW was the very first truck I built when I get back into model building about 6 years ago. The kit had a badly twisted floor and other fit problems. But I thought it was a great kit and put the problems I encountered to a lack of building experience. An excellent subject, beautifull looking truck. Bits are starting to fall off it now and I am planning a rebuild in the future. Interesting comments about the engine and the fit. Is the sump pan on your Detroit to the front? It should be to the rear to clear the front axle. Just looking at mine the Cummins sits lower in the frame. The top of the tansmission cover is about 1/16" below the top of the frame rail. Have you checked the height of the fan in the radiator with the centre of the fan pulley? Good Luck with the rest of the project and keep us posted with progress. Dave
  15. Nearly a month since the last update. Lots of things have been done since then. The first was that I was not happy with the width of the engine. It was to wide for the AMT Pete 359. So I decided to build a new block which would be thiner at the bottom. This was critical because it meant that the water pump and cooler would fit between the frames without interfering with the flanges on the rails. The actual water pump and cooler is about the 5th attempt. It has been a pain to get it something like. The sump had to be thinned down to fit the new block. But it has all been worth it. The engine now fits between the 359 frame rails. There was another problem I encountered, that was the new frame stretcher at the front of the frame that carries the engine was incorrect. When installed it interfered with the shocker on the driverside. So I modified the stretcher and front engine mounting. All fits OK now. I have been contemplating modifications to the cylinder head and exhaust system to make them more compact and fit within the 56 in overall height envelope. I need to look at this in more detail. Its important that I get the proportions as near as possible to ensure that builders can fit it into the truck of their desire. But be warned this is a big engine it would have only been fitted in certain model trucks and then with modifications. http://public.fotki.com/oldalbion/project-4-14/img00560-20101220-1113.html Thanks for looking Dave
  16. Tim, Another excellent build. It would be great to see it kitted out with all the plant and equipment in the photo. Dave.
  17. Jim, Excellent work on both rigs. I wish I could paint stripes like that. The tarp looks increadibly realistic. Very Impressive. Dave
  18. Jim, This is a superb looking truck. The paint work is exceptional. Thanks for sharing. Dave
  19. I would say this is a pretty accurate replica of the real thing. Excellent work! Dave
  20. Scott, Great looking truck. I like the aftermarket bits like the sanders. Nice touch. What are the two antenna on the blade for? Dave
  21. Chris, Check with Eric at ppvintagekits.com He makes the double round headlights for the extended hood to go with the Bill Signs Pete. He might sell the lights seperate. Dave
  22. Nice looking truck, like the weathering. Appropriate for the time of year also. Dave
  23. Great looking trucks. Just one question though. How do you see that white Pete with all that snow? Dave
  24. Interesting subject, I like both the KWs. Just out of interest I found this superb model of the "Convoy" RD700 Mack for sale on E-bay. I don't know who built it but the work looks superb. Its at $ 400.00 with a day to go and has not met the reserve price yet. When you see it and think of the hours thats been put into it you can understand why the price is what it is. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250735799950&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Hmm! The photo's were taken nearly 3 years ago. Wonder if its still in the same condition and why the seller hasn't posted new photo's? Dave
  25. Hunter, This is a great looking project, very impressive. It would be great to have an aftermarket kit of A Low boy trailer like this one. I would get a couple for sure. Keep us posted with progress and thanks for sharing. Dave
