But even that car you didn't just go to the dealer and drive it off the lot. Maybe they will get around to fixing the Dart too.
-
Yeah, it might make 700+ hp for five minutes before the cranksshaft exits the bottom of the motor.
-
Not really exaggertated at all. There was a big artical in... maybe Car Craft 10-15 years ago on the 427 Nova and they showed the time slips in the 10s (10.93), on slicks on the stock rims and the only other mods were safety related.
-
who knows for sure. All we do know is Don asked for 427 Novas and GM said no and that it was too powerful for the light weight Nova. So Don built them anyway out the back door, got caught and GM put the pressure on. I am sure there was a bunch of political and legal things going on behind closed doors. Even years later Don was vague about the whole thing and changed up his side of the store. As far as GM was concerned it didn't happen and was all brushed under the carpet.

Yeah but significant weight difference over all. sub 3200 pounds, it was even lighter than the Corvette the motor came from. They were built under the table and snuck the "illegal" cars out the back door for $4000.00 a pop. There were no factory, or factory authorized 427 Novas, and GM claims no knowledge of them. I have read different stories and it was all kind of sketchy what really happened, but one of the popular tails is GM pretty much shut him down from doing any more COPO or modified cars. I believe there was a cease and disist order floating around that came indirectly from GM, although I think somewhere he said he managed to slip a few more out the door before the clamps were slammed down on him. Even Don said it was a Lethal Liability. The 427 L72 in a Nova did 10 second quarter miles with just drag slicks on the factory rims. Most sources say there were 37 built, but Don claims he doesn't even know for sure how many had gone out the back door because he wasn't keeping any records or track of them for obvious reasons. Somewhere between 11-7 depending on sources copies of the 37 left in the world.

Badger makes a good airbrush, which one a couple of, but I really like my Iwata Eclipse. Not only does it spray better it's a little less fiddily and fragile as the Badger, which I always had to work on before painting anything. The Iwata is great, pretty fool proof rugged airbruch that has never let me down. I still use my Badgers on occations but my Iwata is the first brush I typically go for, and Hobby Lobby stock Iwata and parts for them. I just used a 40% off coupon when one of my Badger brushes was down for repairs waiting parts that I couldn't find anywhere locally. -
I dream for a plastic Porsche 550 RS Spyder ever day.

Need molding/casting help

Probably work just fine if you pressure cast it. It had to do a two part mold casting on the bench. Your mold is probably leaking. -

What kind of rubber are you using? You might need a more rigid rubber. Or is it the resin is not filling up the mold all the way? -
Not something I normally do, but I am all in.

I just have ADD and a focus problem. I am into too many different hobbies. RC planes, RC helicopters, RC cars, model kits, Car kits, airplane kits, armor kits, Rubber band stick and tissue kits, I even have some wooden ship models. I'd probably be much better off just picking one and sticking with that, but ever time I start to think about I am like, oh yeah, I want to build that. If I was forced, I would pick the car kits, and the helis, and the military kits, and I can't leave my RC cars behind... see. I just know I will regret it. I got a N Scale train for Christmas, some I said I would never get into, but I am about neck deep in that now too. -
To be perfectly honest. As much as I like resin, and I have thousands of dollars in resin, I like plastic better. I'd probably pass on the resin version of this, but I would be all in on a plastic kit. And it's not even really my thing. I like sports cars, Le Mans, Prototypes, and Classics, but this is kind of cool and I don't have a street rod in all of my 400 kit collection.

oh sure you can... You just got to do it. Don't try to learn it all at once or fill a work shop up tomorrow. How do you eat an elephant. One piece at a time. It just takes time, many years of experience and passion, and you will get there. I started on a 2X6 mobile board but have grown to this It only took 12 years. Part of it will be figuring out what you want to do, how you want to do it, and deep you want to get in. The rest will come piece by piece and we are always here to help step by step. There are all kinds of supplies and tools to aid you. Get want you need as you need and can afford it. Getting cheap stuff often means replacing down the road. There are some very good Revell kits out there. Depends on what you are into, but Tamiya has some the very best engineered kits on the market. There are some others that are for better or worse difficult at best and are just a challenge, which sometimes that is half the fun. AM Mclarens, Protar 250 GTO, Heller 917K, build them if you can. I like HLJ.com, Strada Sport, Scale Motor Sport, MCG, DM, ebay and I have a pretty decent LHS. Your best first large investment should likely be an airbrush. That will be the biggest single advancement you can make at least in my opinion. Master that it will take you further than anything else: Resin castings, BMF, small machining equipment, PE, etc. -

from experience in the insurance biz You gotta get a rider for them. Otherwise they are classed as toys and you might get a couple bucks for unbuilt kits each. Paints and supplies not covered. Tools not covered. built kits not covered, up date or add ons to a kit not covered, work benches not covered. I know someone personally who lost their collection valued at over $10K including display cases, kits, built models, supplies, and tools and got $250 for it all from his regular home owners policy and he had to fight for that. It may very greatly from insurance company to insurance company. Go with a well known company. Farmers, State Farm or AmFam tend to treat their customers the best when it comes to dealing with claims and being fair about it. Make sure you have adequate coverage. A 200K policy on a 200K home isn't enough. It probably wont even rebuild your home. The second thing they are going to gestimate is personal belongings, and then appliances, silverware, kitchen items that people generally don't even think about having to replace... so you end up short from the settlement just to cover the basics much less a hobby The best coverage and record, according to AmFam, is a video tape of the collection kept in a safty deposit box updated yearly or as often as needed, with an addtion rider on the policy, for "REPLACEMENT COST" which generally requires a certified appraisal. And you will have to be very clear with them on the coverage. For example, tools are generally covered so that's an addon. So you have to spell it out. I want $35,000.00 est replacement cost (or sometimes known as FAIR MARKET VALUE) for this this and this item. And here is my documented proof. It was something like $40 addtional premium monthly to cover $40k worth of hobby/specialty stuff. -
It would be $75 and they would have to sell 100,000 copies to break even and they wont. Then they will say see I told you so, and never listen to us again. Cool idea but I suspect there is some bean counter reason they have done away with all the 3 in 1s and extras in kits. They have figured that is more profitable to do one kit and slightly modify it with something different and sell it as a completely different kit. Revell's new Nova is a perfect example. So I'd suspect they would want to do a series of 5 slightly different kits rather than a cool little kit like this. I am quite frankly tired of trying to convience model companies to make anything any more.

Cats in the model room
CAL replied to Mr. Moparman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
yeah he was mad, for sure -
It does kind of look Saabish, but it's not a Saab.
-
hey i recognize that cat
-
don't even go there, I am still trying to figure out how in the world they managed to poop on the wall, like a foot off the ground. They were only like 6inches tall max.
-
that is not any good. I do not have that problem. However, anything that looks like a piece of string, wire, rubber bands, WILL get drowned in the water bowl. I have even caught the evil genius kitty standing in the bowl of water up to his knees holding down whatever it is to the bottom of the bowl just for good measure.
-
Let me tell ya... the evil genius cat taught them new tricks every day. I am surprised they didn't get electrocuted when they pretty much ate an entire string of Christmas tree lights.
