  1. It wasn't the styling so much as it only sort of looks Ferrarish. It was the classic Ferrari 70 star wheels that is throwing me off.

  3. The 959 was not built for Paris Dakar. It was built for Group B, which was eliminated before the 959 was fully developed and put into production. The Paris Dakar was a test for the 959 in 1986-87. Porsche had nowhere near the 200 completed production cars to meet the FIA Group B requirements. Group B was canceled at the end of the 1986 season after several tragic crashes that killed several drivers, co-drivers and spectators, and the 959 never got to race in Group B what it was really intended for. The drive train is brilliant and is very similar to my 964 AWD system. Yes it's a bit of a complex system of high pressure hydraulics controlling mechanical diffs, and was brutally reliable. It was the water-cooled flat six that was twin asymmetrical sequential turbocharged motor that add much more complication to the 959. Also brilliant for it's day but more problematic than the AWD system. It was probably the most advanced and complex car to day for not only Porsche but in the entire world. It had a Aluminum/Kevlar composit shell, Nomex floors and other advanced hi-tech features. Most of the 200 US 959 were never delivered to there original owners and spent decades lock in a port warehouse in California IIRC. The main problem is the NTSB wanted 4 cars to crash test and Porsche said NO! Many of these were re-sold and shipped back to Europe. Only a few hard core guys in the states including Bill Gates who I think may own two and spent a long hard expensive fight to make them legal here, which he finally succeded in doing. However, that does involved additonal complicated modifications to pass emission standards.
  4. It is black. It's translucent but very dark. The actual race car had a rear camera that they used rather than a rear-view mirror.
  5. Yup rear fog. Modern European car come with them intergrated into the tail-light housing, but most people do not know even how to turn them on. The are on a lot of US cars post 1989 or there abouts when European makes just started build a US spec car for the world rather than having a US and ROW car. Porsche is the only one I know that had two rear fogs - that kind of balance the rear light situation, but only one is required.

  8. as far as the fender blinker, turn signal, repeater light, whatever you want to call it is just that. However European law states the fender blinker, turn signal, repeater light cannot be any part of the front light cluster(s).

  11. I understand your frustration, the only problem with that is Tom is very effective at cutting people off at the neck, so it's just not a real practical solution. Unfortunately it overflows somewhere eles. hopefully you understand others frustrations.
  12. That is pretty spot on. Tom can do whatever he wants and proven it time and time again, and if it doesn't fit precisely into his agenda it gets tossed out. Spotlight MB is not even really a discussion forum. It is the church or ocult of Tom for his followers to chant his own mantra. It will be and been his biggest failing. Pan Am, IGA, and IH had many things in common, They were all best at what they did, were at the top and all eventually failed because they all thought we know what we are doing, we are the best, we cannot fail. Their biggest failing was being not able to be flexable enough to change or think outside their boxes. That is fine, though. They can have their little piece of the world. I can completly understand, also for right or wrong why it spills over to other message boards. When you get cut off neck for apparent or unapparent you need to vent to your mates, buddies, freinds, and peers, which is partly what this is all about. so vent get over it and move on with life.

  14. 1904? Doesn't look like 1900,1901,1902 runabout. and it doesn't look like any later runabouts and they were defuncted 08-09. And I believe it's a Runabout 900 could be a type X.. eeerrrgg there is about 30 different ones and some look the exacly the same with different names and some look compelety different hand have the exaclty the same name.

  17. Here is a clue. It is not a 1995, wasn't built by Porsche, it's not technically a 993, however it shares some panels with a 993, it didn't race in GT2, It was in a GTS-2 class, and there is something very unique about it. That would have been my first guess too: Porsche 993 GT2
  18. Yeah, not really even close. Kind of close but not really.
  19. The problem with ALMS is they are their own worst enemy. 4-5 years ago it was a solid exciting series, great battles, close racing, but they keep jacking with the rules and often unfairly. And all the sudden you'd have races that were complete blowouts. They kept jacking with it kept jacking with it. The Audi TDI kind of sealed their fate because the gas cars couldn't compete on the same level - even though they were supposedly in the same class. The final blow was Porsche and Penske who made no bones about it. They wanted to compete for out right wins, not just class wins. They were really close and then ALMS pull the rug out from under Penske and Porsche, which about the same time Acura entered the scene. This would have left Acura high and dry crying in their beer mugs. Penske and Porsche said screw you guys, and it became a one make per class series again anyway. Not to the same extent, the same thing happened in the GT classes. Corvette was racing themselves, and they kept slowing the Porsche down everytime they won a race until the point were they nowhere near competitve. Unless you had a Pontiac you were not going to win. ALMS is a perfect example of over policing a series. Many less to be learned there. At best it's an active test-bed for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, any longer.

  21. I think it's the money and fame factory. Look at Danica. She could have gone to Europe and did the lower lever open-wheel stuff in hopes of getting an F-1 ride. However, she wanted the limelight and pretty much came out and said it: There is just more money and limelight in NASCAR than anywhere else she could have gone... at least in the short term... and she did have options. As far as JPM, I am sure he took a pay cut from F-1, but it's better than nothing. There is only one reason he gets to go to the 24 of Daytona. Nobody else would probably want to share a car with him. It's not that he is a bad driver, but he does have a bad attitude, big ego, and it was really shinning through his last year at Mclaren. It is why he lost his ride.

  24. Depends on what you are using for paint. Enamel yes, it takes a long time to cure ~ weeks Lacquers not as long. Acrylics a few days. Catalist paints ie epoxy paint and some base clears as soon as they are dry they are pretty much cured - in as little as a few hours a day or two tops. I am sure whoever said a metal cabinet was because, especailly with Enamel and Lacquers they will give off flamable gasses while the cure. How cold is it in your garage. Somewhere around 75 degrees is min for painting and curing. You start getting much colder and it really slows down the process and paint doesn't flow as well.
