Done it at last! My 4th build and 2nd flame-job. Auto paint topped with Tamiya clear and Future floor polish. A few aftermarket trinkets and a bit of BMF. Hope you like it

Outstanding! I'm really enjoying the progress pics. I learn something new every time I visit this forum. I have only been building for a year (4 models, so-far) and I never knew such detail was possible in this scale. Truly inspirational!

I absolutely love it! never seen one of these as a drag car before. I know the AMT kit has a drag option, but I've never seen it done. VERY NICE INDEED!

Thankyou for the info, Marcos. Much appreciated. I'l definately be putting dollars in his pocket! I'd better get on with it...dunno how the £ is going to fair against the $ over the next few weeks. Nice one mate

I will be using Norms interior parts to complete the interior of this model, I will have to make some mounting holes on the door panels and also Alclad some of these parts to do my final touch ups!!!!

Wow! That's quality! I was under the impression that Lindberg kits were a bit dodgy....but this looks superb! Saw this on eBay. Some are going for $300 and some are available for a touch under $70. If I ever go big scale, I'll get one of these. Magic!

Got the gloss black on it now. I know the edges require rubbing, but that's gotta wait until the paint hardens properly. Then I'll use Micromesh on it or something like that and give it a few coats of TS-13 clear. I can't wait to do the BMF! thanks for looking

116 views and only 2 replies!? That's not a very warm welcome, is it? Welcome aboard mate! Your build looks good. The engine looks very neat. Listen, I don't want to teach you how to suck eggs, but I'm new to the hobby and I've been using Tamiya and auto rattle-can paints on mine, and although they're not as good as an airbrush, they do work quite well. I reckon you should give it a go and see what you think. It's quicker than brushing paint on and it looks better in the end... Keep it up!

That's top-notch, mate! I love that glitter green, too. Can you tell us the brand of paint you used, please? I dunno if the flakes would translate onto 1:25, but I'd love to try! It looks a bit like a Topolino at the back, but I'm not really sure All the same, it looks great, whatever it is

Nice one Lyle! I've responded to your post on another board, but I like this so much I'm gonna reinforce my admiration! It's a real beauty. The metalflake looks fabulous. I know what you mean about seeing it differently in real-life. I reckon it's because eyes see in 3D stereo and cameras see in 2D mono. I had the same sort of thing when trying to show the sparkly paint on my 32 3-window. I hope to se more of your builds soon.

[Hey Keith, I like what you've done to it. Very realistic, especially the dirty glass. The rust looks good, too. Those rear tyres (sorry, TIRES) are enormous! Where are they from? Parts box or aftermarket? Good work, fella!

Those carbs look amazing with the PE details! I love the paint as well. This build is like a benchmark to me. inspirational !!

Thanks! Glad someone out there likes it!

Car #4. I got this kit early last year and I've only just got around to building it. There were a few fit issues. The trunk lid and hood both required a bit of tweaking to get them in place. The trunk lid was too narrow and there was a big gap underneath it when viewed from the side. The hood wouldn't sit flat without some jiggery-pokery. All part of the fun though. Without problems we wouldn't learn. I also had to modify the steering rod. The holes at either end were too big and the pegs on the hub assembly were too small. I got round this by cutting the heads off pins and using them instead. The poseable steering now works well. Here's the work so far: I fitted the front and rear roll-pans so I could use filler on the joins. The wheels came with the kit. The colour scheme is going to be gloss black with purple metallic flames extending from the nose. I have painted the block, mufflers and rear dampers purple. The engine has some PE brackets and a Park's Parts wired distributor. I will add a lower radiator hose later, when I come to fit the body onto the chassis. Here's the purple, prior to masking for the flame pattern: The black/purple theme continues with the interior: The bullet centre of the steering wheel, ties-in with the bullets that wil go on the front grille and also the driving and rear lights. I cut out the horn ring and replaced it with silver wire, as the old one was too thick. Same for the stalks on the steering column. I have frenched the antenna holes and made new antennae from fine silver wire. I'm about to spray the gloss black on it, but the weather is a bit bad for it. It's gloomy, wet and cold. I've cut the mask for the flames... and last night I applied them to the body. I have subsequently found out about a product called PARAFILM. Apparently, it's a plastic film that can be stretched over curves, has good adhesive qualities (but can be removed easily) and best of all, it's VERY thin. I'll remember this for the next build... More pics once I've got further with it. Thanks for looking. Sorry about the essay....

Well done with getting back into the hobby! Shame about your arm. Hope it's getting better quickly. I'm a big fan of this kit. I've done 1 already (you replied to that post), but I think I'll do another as soon as I've built the others I've got on the shelf (57 chevy, Revell 49 merc, Impala lowrider, stock Impala and the ubiquitous 32 Ford) Keep the progress pics comin'! cheers!

Thanks Erik! I'll definately use thinner tape next time. I'm aiming to get skilled with an airbrush, so hopefully I can apply more thin coats of paint rather than 2 or 3 medium ones from a can. Good tip about the scripts. I didn't think of that, so cheers for the tip. I'll do it on the next one

Let us in on your secret, Robert! Was the paint airbrushed on? It looks great! Nice job.
-
Superb! The piping, the mags on the back seat, the head on the antenna, the dashboard....all excellent! Looks like you upholstered the floor, too.....nice touch! I've saved some of the pics to my HD for future reference

I like this a lot! I recently built one of these, so it's very interesting to see what other versions turn out like. It's full of very nice touches What grille are you getting for it?

Thanks! The paint is Tamiya spray-can. Deep Metallic Blue. It looks black under indoor room lights, but shines-up beautifully under a strong light. I topped it with Tamiya clear and then Klear floor polish. I didn't buff it as this seemed to leave micro-scratches in the gloss.

Cheers! I got hold of the dice on eBay. I think they're from 'Ken's Kustom Parts' I made the exhaust pipe tips from silver tube. The horn ring was made from fuse wire and the red and black battery leads were stripped from an old VCR cable. The only parts I bought for it, were a distributor (wired with purple wire), some coolant hose and a turned aluminium coil, all from Detail Master. Everything else was from the kit. (+ some Bare Metal foil...)

Cool as fek! It looks mean! Nicely done, mate!

Still not the best weather here...but I got a bit of daylight today, so here are the final pics: Cheers!

Thanks for your kind words everyone! It's nice to have my work appreciated The fine stainless mesh came from one of those 'plunger' type coffee pots. You might be able to buy the discs of mesh as spares, but this one came from a broken one. I cut the mesh with a sharp pair of kitchen scissors. The weather as been rubbish here in London, getting dark at 4pm and grey skies for the whole day. A bit gloomy for nice shots of the finished car. I took some last night and used 4 halogen lamps. When the sun shines, I'll take a few proper ones, but here are some to be getting on with. Sorry if they're not very good, but I couldn't wait: More once the weather improves and I can get some daylight! cheers!

I think I've been at this since August or September....seems like a long time As this is my 3rd kit, I learnt a few things during the build....like: 1) follow the instructions and don't do things out of sequence! 2) don't use superglue on the windshield 3) wear latex gloves to handle the car after final polish I scratchbuilt the aircleaner cover, with a flame pattern, to match the grille and steering-wheel. The paint is Tamiya spray-can Deep Metallic Blue, with gloss clearcoat, topped-off with Klear Floor Polish (Future in the U.S.), which almost looks black in certain light conditions, but sparkles-up nicely when the sun hits it. I made silver tube exhaust tips, silver chassis bars, front and rear and a silver radiator support as all the kit parts had an obvious seam running down them. The photoetch is from Model Car Garage and the distributor and coil are from Detail Master. Anyway. Here are some quick shots I took in a bit of a hurry. I'll take some better ones, once all the bits and pieces are glued-on. The engine: The body on the chassis: The interior: ..and a close-up of the MCG grille:
