  1. Cheers guys. Here's a pic of the engine, Steven....
  2. Here's a shot of the other side of the board: Although nobody will see it, now it's fixed to the rack and inside a display case...oh well. I enjoyed making it!
  3. This was a Revell street machine kit from the late 80's, moulded in candy pink. I chose to go the weathered route as a slight departure from my usual shiny finishes. It made a nice change. Some detail was missing in the execution of the moulding, so I added door hinges, wiper blades, additional louvres on the engine cover and I re-scribed all of the panel lines as they were vague. The Fuchs rims were in the kit. The tyres are parts-box. I made the decals and replaced the kit glass with smoked acetate. The aloha garland is made from tissue paper and thread. The door mirror was made with my little watchmaker's lathe. The roof rack is made from brass rod, silver soldered. The stinger pipe is made from plumber's solder and a paintbrush ferrule. I used a little bit of photoetch on the engine pulley faces and made the distributor from alu tube. Surfboard is styrene sheet with clear red sprue cut and filed into fins. Bungees were made from detail wire and fuse wire. Er... that's about it. Any questions, please ask. Here are the finished pics: Hang ten, dudes!!
  4. I saw a 1:1 LFA at Goodwood festival of speed, albeit a standard version. Your build captures the essence of the car and has weight and substance...if you get my drift.. nice job. really well done
  5. Class. pure class. I wish we had chrome plating services in the UK.
  6. Wow! super gloss finish and the stippled black does look like a lace pattern. I particularly like the interior and engine details. I like the licencew plate, too! Inspriational.....
  7. I like the way your mind works. You have true rattitude!
  8. Hand on heart, this really was my first attempt at weathering. Thanks for the encouragement, guys. I appreciate it.
  9. You knocked it outa the park with this one, mate! It's totally cherry!! I really like the skirts with the chrome strips peeping out. The hooded headlights are bang-on, too.
  10. Right on the money with this, mate! Very nice indeed. I'd like to have one like this on my shelf one day. Superb in every way.
  11. Sonofadiddly! I just had another look at the engine pics. You totally knocked it out of the park. I really like the details...and that wire is so thin! I've gotta get me some of that fine wire. I'm keeping my eye on this build. I can tell it's going to be outstanding.
  12. True. I had trouble with mine being tilted up on the trailing edge. I reckon I should've removed the monting posts and re-set the angle. I think I ended up using a combination of force and jiggery-pokery..! I thought I'd done a reasonable job on my engine. But taking a look at your progress makes me think I have still got a long way to go...
  13. Man, that bad boy is CRISP! I often wondered about how these kits look. You did a 1st class job on yours. It's a beauty. The geezer driving it looks good, too. I like the grimy sweater! Nice detail!
  14. Doc, your work is a benchmark for me. I hope that one day, I'll be able to paint and build like you. Until then, I'll just drool over your fine work. I only got into this hobby in 2008. I never knew it could be so good... so much skill, imagination and artistry. I love it! Builds like yours really do inspire me. I wish I had more money and time to devote to building cars.... Thanks for showing us your amazing work. The video was a real bonus, too. It did your skills justice.
  15. K I L L E R ! Those pics have fully whetted my appetite to build one of these. Nice colour choice and the fade in the centre of the roof is a really nice touch. I hope you're going to add Bellflower pipes. How low are you gonna make it sit?
  16. Lovely. Now, I'm not being critical, but I agree that the roof looks a little tall on top of the sectioned body. However, once the glass is in, the trim done and the interior is installed, it may well look more balanced. I like the rims you've chosen. They look right.
  17. Cheers Bill. The tinted glass was in the kit. I just polished it and added the rivets with a silver pen. This was a good kit to build. The roll cage was a challenge, but that's why we build, isn't it? If I were to either build another of these, or the '57, which shares the same platform, I'd try to plumb the engine with braided hose, turned couplings, etc. and add more wiring and extras to the cockpit. If you haven't had a go at one of these, I'd recommend it.
  18. I like the half moons on the headlights. Flat black looks good on it. Nice one
  19. Thanks everyone. Yeah, that roll cage is a bit of a nightmare. I had to build it up progressively. As for colour...I think it's gotta be something bold. A hot orange/red maybe
  20. Thanks for your comments, guys! Here are some more pics, as requested
  21. nice detail on the engine! i wish i'd seen yours before i'd built mine. I have little or no idea about how to install lines etc. and i really could've done with some clues. I am impressed with your attention to detail and looking forward to seeing more progress photos. (check out my 55 shoebox build here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=50753 )
  22. that looks MAD! Totally nuts! i take my hat off to you mate. i couldn't bring myself to slice up a kit like that! glad you have though...the results are gonna be worth waiting for
  23. Lookin good bro. Add the thin outer stripes, i reckon they'll frame the wide centre stripe nicely and make it look even better. i read a review of this kit and they mentioned door warp, too. very nice choice of rims, too. they give it solidity and brawn.
  24. whoa! they look so real! you do really nice work buddy. thanks for showing us your terrific builds. truly some of the best out there...I swear.
  25. Lovely work on this venerable kit. Good choices made for the details. I like the firewall. The wheels are very nice too. How about plumbers' solder for the rollbar? I heard that resin or sand poured into tube can stop it kinking during bending, but I don't know if it works on this scale. Nice one mate. good work
