Looks like you turned a sow's ear into a silk purse! Sometimes it's overcoming the kit's failings that makes it more rewarding. I like the story behind the build. Misssing stereo spaeakers and a messed-up steering column give it a more realistic feel. Nice job

Thanks for the encouragement, chaps! You're right, Skip. The paint is for Rover cars (A once proud British manufacturer, sold to the Chinese for a disgracefully low sum). In the UK we have a retailer called Halfords, who sell everything for cars. They can custom mix paint, too. I always use their paint, as it is reliable and fairly cheap.

Here's one for all the tweenage girls on the forum...

LOL! I can hear Justin Bieber's tinny, whingeing voice coming out of the stereo! Nice job on an unusual choice of car. How about getting another one, but make it totally nuts, with a big blown engine, RWD and some fat rears? -

A home-run, Bernard! I love the whole thing. You got the 'feel' just right and the flathead looks great. -

Incredible skills Rod. Just when I was beginning to think I was getting reasonably good at model building, I see this and realize I have a long, long way to go before my builds are anywhere near this standard. Compared to yours, mine look like they were built in the dark by drunk Chimpanzees. -
wow!! That is so clean! Really like what you've done with it. Nice details and beautifully executed.

Thankyou Mr Obsessive!! I'd love to know how you managed that. I've been trying for hours and still couldn't get it to work. Same on the other Forum. Skip, the paint is from a rattle can and is Rover Gunmetal metallic. I was quite happy with the finish, considering I disobeyed all the instructions on the can. I painted this outside in windy, wet, cold and dark conditions. I had to wait for the icy wind to ease for a moment, so I could spray without debris flying around in the air. I had to dodge fine drops of rain, too. I admit I was impatient, but the gamble paid off.

Really nice, Ron I love these cars the colour choice and finish are spot-on!

I think this was one of the quickest builds I've done. Probably due to the age of the kit, it had a simple chassis with moulded rear axle, tailpipes and front suspension. I made stub axles for the front wheels and got rid of the metal axle that would've gone through the holes in the engine, which I filled. I bought some Fujimi wheels for it, but I had to grind out the rear wheel tubs to get clearance for the wider rears. The Advan tyres are excellent, with a fine asymetric tread and really nice lettering on the sidewalls. I made an electric fan and a bracket, as the blown engine option didn't have a fan belt or fan. I added hoses to the radiator and made some bellflower type mufflers. The vinyl roof was done with two thin lines of masking tap to mimic the seams, then 3 light coats of with 3M Spraymount, then primered and sprayed matt black. I was chuffed with the results. Here are some pics: I don't know why the picture doesn't show up. If I use the 'image' button to add the url, I just get a red X in a box and no picture. http://public.fotki.com/GeeTee66/65-pontiac-gp/65-pontiac-gp-038-jpg.html http://public.fotki.com/GeeTee66/65-pontiac-gp/65-pontiac-gp-021-jpg.html http://public.fotki.com/GeeTee66/65-pontiac-gp/65-pontiac-gp-004-jpg.html Comments/critique welcome thanks for looking

I love the way this car looks. Some really nice details. Thanks for giving details about the bodywork, etc. Your photos are good, but I think you should get a soft make-up brush or paintbrush and dust off the body before you take your pics. Your excellent photos are showing up large hairs...shame to see them on such a fine build. -
Man, that's a hot ride. That gloss is a mile deep and the BMF is chrome-a-delic! Nice touches onder the hood, too. I love it.

1:75!?? Wow! That's pretty small. Nice job. You could build a million and still have a bit of room left on your shelf! -
Here are some shots of the engine, interior and underside.

Thanks Greg I normally get this stuff right, but I don't see an image box. Do you mean the 'Attach Files' thing at the bottom of the page?

Ultra clean build, Ron. I've got one of these waiting. Your excellent photos will help me out. Nice colour choice and the BMF is sweet

I got my inspiration from the www.1948chevy.com website. A good resource if you're going to build one of these. I liked this kit, despite some warp in the floor/chassis and the metal transfers had weak adhesive. Apart from that, it was a fun challenge. I tried my best for a good paintjob. i used a lot of clear and wet sanded it before 3 stages of polishing. BMF was tricky as the lines were feint, but after a bit of sweat and frayed nerves, I got it done. I wired the plugs, added fuel lines, battery cables and swapped the kit wheels for some lowrider rims from Pegasus. I got the ride height as low as I could without chopping up the chassis and floor. I admit i wasn't feeling brave enough to risk ruining the kit as it was a gift from someone special. I decided it needed a pimped interior, so it now has glittery seats and a white flocked carpet. The windows were replaced with acetate, as the kit glass was scratched despite never having been out of the bag(??) and the windshield glass had a prominent bubble inside the styrene, so that was binned. Thanks for looking I hope you like it Got the images sorted now. Thanks to all who gave me tips and advice. Much appreciated

Lovely job on the '58. I've got one of these waiting. I'll use your photos as reference, when I do mine. I reckon the colour choice is spot on. You got that gloss really smooth, too. Nice work on the BMF, by the way.

Impressive! It's quality like this that keeps me at it! This is the standard I aspire to.
-
Nice work! You got a really nice smooth finish on your paint. A very clean build. I bet it looks good on your shelf...

Beautiful!! My first car 25 years ago, was a 1961 Anglia 105E. It was Imperial maroon with a grey interior. I shed a tear when i sold it...but it went to a good home. Where can i buy this resin kit, please? I would love to build it!
